EB Games Wii Pre-order
« on: November 07, 2006, 02:28:31 AM »
So I got this email from EB Games today that they will be giving gamers an opportunity to pre-order the Wii online on November 9th.  I can't link to my email so if this letter from the EB Games editor breaks any rules let me know.

And so here Wii are. Less than two weeks and counting until the most innovative product the video game industry has seen hits the streets.

This Thursday evening (CST), November 9, your opportunity to get in on the excitement arrives when our Wii bundle becomes available for pre-order online at EBgames.com. You'll get the best games, accessories and more in one convenient package delivered right to your door - all for under $699 plus tax and handling!

Quantities are extremely limited and there will be a limit of 1 Wii bundle per household, limited to US delivery only. Ordering a bundle does not guarantee shipment at launch and orders will be shipped on a first-come, first-serve basis. The bundle will be removed from the site as soon as we have reached our expected quota.

I am trying to find out what the heck is in the bundle for them to use the $699 mark.  I played hide and seek on the site for a bit and just found basic $249.99 info on the Wii.  I really heartily dislike EB with a passion, but I don't plan to be in the US on launch day so I'm looking into other options.  An FYI for those doing the same.

Here is my guess of what's in the package:

Wii -                                                          $250
3 Wiimotes -                                              $120
3 nunchuks -                                             $60
3 Classic Controllers -                                 $60
Zelda -                                                       $50
Red Steel -                                                 $50
Excite Truck -                                             $50
Rayman -                                                   $50
Madden -                                                    $50
----------------------------------------------------------
Total:                                                         $740

Because it is a package they are pretty much giving a little away in order to sell you more. If this is stuff you planned to buy already it isn't really a bad deal. If you are only looking to pick up the system plus 1 or 2 games this is highway robbery.

Um, no.  They're going to offload some of the crap games that nobody in his right mind would normally buy.

Yeah, EB doesn't give you a deal ever.  The way I see it:

Wii:                        250
1 wii + nunchuck:     60
Cars:                        50
Avatar:                     50
Madden:                   50
cd/dvd cases:           50
cd/dvd wipes:           50
Other useless crap: 40
Total:                      700

I hope Wii will have shipments into the holiday, then I won't have to worry about getting it at launch necessarily.

$699 US DOLLARS

Ha ha. Suck my dick Gamestop. Way to completely undermine what Nintendo is trying to do with the Wii. I can't wait to see the $1000+ bundle they have for the PS3.

Wait, what?  So they can just change their minds about what you actually get after you've already pre-ordered that stuff?

That explains it.  I had just thought to myself that the bundle doesn't suck like I thought it would, but they did that on purpose to trick people into ordering it so that they could bait and switch Barnyard and its ilk instead.  It's all so obvious now.

The bundle is still a ripoff, though, regardless of whether the included games suck or are expected to suck.

As much as I want a Wii at launch, I won't be buying that bundle at Gamestop.com, or anywhere.

I do not want or need:
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Red Steel
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz
Madden NFL 2007
12 Month Product Replacement Plan
Game Informer Gift Subscription

so I will look around elsewhere, or I will just buy the games I want when they come out and then buy a system when it's available bundle-less.  Gamestop.com's bundle is total crap, as they just seemed to pick blindly what games to choose.  Why the hell can't they give a decent choice.  Where the hell is Rayman?  Isn't that a launch game?

Have they spent all this time thinkig up that one single bundle when they have like 12 different bundle choices for Xbox 360?  This is shameful.  Because of Microsoft's inability to get enough systems out soon enough stores are pulling crap like this, even though Nintendo has already stated that there will be a lot of systems available.

And I said it before in another thread, Gamestop was going to screw over people that already pre-ordered Zelda, as not long ago they stopped taking them.

Well someone must have  been desprate enough to preorder at these prices (even though the usless "extended" warrenty costs $100) Because the online preorders are done for Gamestop.com. In less then 4 hours.

EDIT: Don't try to post and program at the same time.

maybe after 4 hours no one was willing to buy their crap offering and to save face, made it seem like it was so popular that it sold out quickly.

I was playing FFXII last night when I realized that they were doing that last night, so I checked out of amusement (it was around 10 pm EST) and it was over.

I didn't feel bad or anything, because as I said in an above post that I wasn't going to take part in the crap gamestop.com was peddling.

Damn, seems like the best online pre-order package was actually Wal-mart's.

4 games of your choice, 2nd wiimote and nunchuck, points card... But the games ship separately. Heck knows if you'll get them the same day.
"wow."

yea would have been nice to get in on walmarts bundle. Pick the games you want, get an extra full controller, and points card. Awesome. I'd of course look forward to Zelda the most, but I could start on which ever game arrived first. (my Pick? Zelda, RedSteel, Rayman, ExciteTruck, Trauma Center)

Yea, that's 5, but I want Trauma Center. Heh.
