Sam & Max to be revived via episodic content
« on: August 26, 2006, 05:35:07 PM »
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/sam-and-max/728387p1.html

This is great news for fans who were pissed about the cancelation that occured earlier. The only drawback now initially you can only get via gametap then a couple of month earlier when the contract terms expire the developer gets to sell the on their own website.

You heard about that just now? Everyone else knew about that since Telltale got the license.

I was aware of that, shame, as that means I won't be able to get my hands on it for a while....

still, I'd wait until I see some reviews and such, the only thing I dislike (besides episodic content ) is that the game would've been GREAT with cel-shading...oh well....

on a side note, I never get tired of "Hit the Road" so this one has a lot to live up to....

Well KDR not really because I don't follow PC gaming news as much as console news since I never was that big on PC gaming.

Though GameTap is heavily promoting Sam & Max, I heard GameTap is not necessary to receive each episode.  And I also thought that as each "season" or year wraps up, that you'll be able to get the whole thing on DVD-ROM.

According the GoNintendo today, the Telltale Games CEO thinks that point-and-click games aren't yet dead, and that Sam & Max could do well on the Wii.  No confirmation that they would put out a game (they'd probably be too busy churning out the episodes for the PC) but I think it could work on the Wii (or DS) as well.

Maybe a port of Sam & Max: Hit The Road for the DS will gauge interest.  (And yes, I am aware of SCUMMVM for the DS, but I mean an official port.)

They sure as hell better port it to Wii, because I hate episodic software with a passion... >=|

if they do port it to Wii, then I'll be really happy

let's hope they do ^___^

and I don't think that Hit the Road, as awesome as it is, could be ported.... (talking about legal issues, not technical )

Hit the Road on DS would be awesome.  It's a pain getting sound to work in that game on a modern PC.

Using DOSbox is kinda a pain.  If only it handled Shadow Warrior and Blood as well as it handled S&M.
What's SCUMMVM?

Wiki. In class I often see a guy working on the code to get Gobliins 2 to run.

DOSBox is a pain? the only "pain" is mounting stuff as the sound works perfectly

I recently replayed Monkey Island 2, this time using SCUMMVM for the DS.  But Sam & Max: Hit The Road doesn't work on the DS with voices, at least last time I checked.

There's probably a Wikipedia article on SCUMMVM.  I think SCUMM stands for something like "SCript Utility for Maniac Mansion", and VM is "Virtual Machine".  It's a way (an emulator, I guess) of running SCUMM-based games (many LucasArts games, but also other point-and-click adventure games like Simon The Sorceror) on many, many other platforms, including the DS.  It's amazing how well it works.

That's enough of a pain for me to call it a pain.

I think all you do is type "mount c: c:\" and then from there run things as if it was back in the good ol' DOS days?

I mean, seriously, that's reminding me of the Bob The Angry Flower comic where he has to press two buttons on a machine to get money any time he needs.  But he keeps pressing just one and he can't be bothered to figure out that he has to press two.  Honestly!  :P

I got ScummVM along with Sam & Max, Monkey Island and DOTT on my PDA. Some years ago (probably a decade) there was a magazine called bestseller games that was just a magazine wrapper around some great DOS games for 10-15 DM a piece. Got MI1&2, Indy 3, S&M, Descent and DOTT (with MM) originals from it.

Settlers 2 works pretty slowly on DOSBox and Tyrian doesn't work at all...

But enough about me, what can I do for you?
My little friend here needs to use the facilities.
Screw the facilities, Sam, I need a bathroom!
