I've heard from adult users hat these things are pretty nice since you can use them in the dark just from feeling the shapes and they are great if the clutter of modern remotes annoys you.

Ah, modern civilization.  Originally we found getting up to change channels, turn the TV on, etc was too hard so we invented remotes to make things easier.  Now apparently THAT has also become too hard so we have to simplify the remote.

It's like microwave Kraft Dinner. Cuz you know that seven minutes it takes to make regular Kraft Dinner is way too long.

Oh comon, I know there are people like that.... But the microwave dinner is great where you're not allowed to have kitchen type stuff. i.e. College dorms. Over the summer the university provides no food service and like wise neither provides or allows food preperation type stuff to their students. The only device you have for cooking is their tinney tiny crappy in room Microwave. If it wasn't for microwave dinners I'd have to eat out every day.

Okay...how about Instant Oatmeal?  You can make Oatmeal in 1 minute, because 2.5 minutes for the Traditional  Oatmeal is much too long to wait.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I don't get how making things easier for everyone is "laziness".

"But the microwave dinner is great where you're not allowed to have kitchen type stuff. i.e. College dorms."

Since I never lived at a college dorm I am unfamiliar with this.  Why is one prevented from sustaining oneself in a dorm?  I would consider preventing someone from preparing food as a violation of their basic right to eat food and thus not die.

Anyway I was thinking more of my co-workers daughter who is a big fan of only waiting three minutes for Kraft Dinner.

"I don't get how making things easier for everyone is 'laziness'."

It's only laziness when that which is being made easier was already pretty damn easy to begin with.  Like when people drive their car just to get the mail and their mailbox is like ten feet from their driveway and it's sunny outside.

It seems that the college believes we have the basic right to not meet our grisly end in a dorm inferno set off by students making ramen for dinner.

But seriously, a month or two ago, a student in my dorm managed to start a fire with a microwave by heating microwavable popcorn for too long. College students need to be protected from themselves. &P

How ironic that in our society a post-secondary degree is often regarded as some sort of measurement of intelligence yet colleges have to outlaw basic food preperation because students are too stupid to avoid setting the damn place on fire.

Funniest thing Ive read on here in a while. Could only happen in America, or has American culture already prostituted Canadian culture to that degree already??

Seriously, If I had to go back to the dorms, I'd rather they not have an oven or stove setup... My dorm room was small enough!

Plus, I would much rather be forced to dine out than face the consequences of 900 college freshmen taking their first shot at cooking real meals (particularly the drunk and disorderly males)....

Gee, I'm thankful that they closed our cooking area at midnight

"" How ironic that in our society a post-secondary degree is often regarded as some sort of measurement of intelligence yet colleges have to outlaw basic food preperation because students are too stupid to avoid setting the damn place on fire. ""

That really just comes down to the fact that the majority of the students are living on their own for the first time in their lives, which means about half of them are just learning how to cook! It's less about avoiding stupidity and more about promoting the general welfare by not placing everyone's life in the hands of a really really drunk fratboy.

Also, I'd argue that one of the most extraordinary features of my school was the meal plan... University of Georgia's dining halls were amazing, and the number of gorgeous women (yes, girls!) there was absolutely astounding..

Well, that's it for me... this fall I'll have my own apartment (with oven/stove) so it looks like I might indeed meet my end as I attempt to cook.
I'll shut up now...

I think Ian's example is funny, but truly ridiculous if anyone were to do it.  I would think it actually takes more time and effort to get into a car, start it up, and drive ten feet than it is to walk it.

I agree with Requiem.

Why do things have to be more difficult or take longer than it should?  You're telling me I should have to waste time and energy doing things when alternatives are available?

It's only "laziness" if now, with more efficiency, less effort, less time spent (and more free time), you don't focus your saved energies elsewhere.

If I was using my saved time and saved energy to be more productive in other areas, no one should be allowed to call me lazy if I microwave a meal in half the time.
