Planet me silly!
« on: November 30, 2005, 06:18:46 PM »
... Well Hello...

I am wondering what are your plans with the main page "planetgamecube.com"? I feel you will wait until Nintendo releases the official name for the Revolution... so that will take some time (ugg... maybe until May)...

Until then... I was thinking that maybe it would be productive to start plotting the design of the page... That said I will like to point to some web pages I frequent:

Infendo Good site, clean look...

Definitive Nintendo Revolution speculation ... Basically the same design (Blogspot anyhow) but somehow not as clean as the first. I wonder what will come up next on this one...

Joystiq Neat site... picture crazy...

GamerFeed ... don't like the right hand column to much... it seems to repeat some thins from the main column. a tad slower, maybe the many commercials banners...

What I want to point about this sites is their design ... though they are mostly blogs they are easy to navigate and the simple layout loads fast... I was wondering if the next planet could use that approach to it design. I figure it should not be too hard to implement (then again, what do I know...)...

I like that the pages keep good size (horizontally) so if someone is still on low resolution everything looks OK... and even on high resolution it feels OK since the column size make for easy reading... (I don't have to scroll my eyes to much left or right...) ...Now am not saying that the planet should go "blog", am just suggesting a possible look... and those pages are basically the same with some variations, I think something a bit like them would work well for "our new planet"...

... Now that I think of it... I have notice that some of those sites tend to be updated frequently (thats why they are called blogs anyhow, is it?)... why don't we see some more updates on planetgamecube as well... well... OK so those blogs and some other pages tend to link news or comment about news or reports, or features from other sites/blogs... And I bet it is not easy to just keep up with so many things... I haven't posted for a wile over at some other forums I frequent, so I know it is not something as simple as that, plus you always want to do your own stuff (been original helps) and not just link like crazy someones else work... (slashdot anyone?)... not that thats bad, but it should not be overuse...

Well hope you understand my meaning... I tend to post things that are hard to follow at times...

Lets see what all of you feel about my small suggestion. Wish I could help, but I don't know HTML...

Edit: Fix Infendo's new link, and spelling...

There's a big difference between those sites, which purely stick to news and reviews, and Planet Gamecube. I enjoy Joystiq, but it it totally different. PGC writes its own previews, reviews, features and hosts its own screenshots and video. It doesn't link to other sites, because it's a full site not a blog. The nature of a blog is to link to other people and comment on the news. PGC, like IGN or GameSpot, is the type of site blogs link to. It just wouldn't work. (Though I believe PGC does use a system that is similar to a blog in posting new info.)

That being said, I'd really love to see a more visually pleasingn design for Planet ___________.

So, what I wanted to show you was the looks they got... not the way they are... Look at Infendo, add the planets contents, links a few arangements and all that that we like and you could visualize the planet I imagine!

Our new site will definitely have more options to filter content by system, date, rating, etc.  Currently, you can sort the reviews page by system, but you might have to scroll through one system to find the list for another, and that sorting will list reviews in alphabetical order within each system grouping, which may not be convenient for your search.  Anyway, we're going to have something better very soon.

Gamespys planetnintendo.com domain would have to expire pretty soon. It would be more fitting considering you're extensive DS, GBA and Gamecube content.
So anyway I was in the shopping center demanding to know where they kept the western potatoes when Drive Safe came around with Simple Plan blaring out telling me that driving on the wrong side of the road is ok if the other guy is drunk while I immediately jumped on my dirt racer to zoom out of ther
