Gamecube clicking noise
« on: January 01, 2006, 12:44:14 AM »
I bought a second hand gamecube last week and it makes this loud clicking noise when it loads windwaker. It seems fine playing Resident Evil. Is this something i should be worried about?

The clicking noise sometimes means its struggling to load I get it sometimes and theres little to no problem. Or it can be heavily loading.

The clicking is actually jsut the little laser inside moving from one extreme to the other. Don't worry, it's on all GCNs (At least, all that I've seen.)

Always happens to me when I play Metroid Prime.  I don't know what that game does to my GameCube, I get the clicking and 1/30 times I ride an elevator the game freezes up.

There's several "versions" of Metroid Prime.

I only got them from playing Timesplitters FP and SSX on tour and those games froze on me twice.

I get them all the time on my Q if something is being loaded...  But I have never had the Q freeze on me.

My GameCube clicks when it's in heat. I have to keep it in an upstairs bedroom.

Mine never used to do it, but as it's gotten older it does it more and more... sometimes it'll freeze up if it clicks more than 3 times in succession. I found that a good way to avoid a freeze is that if you hear the second click you open the lid... then instead of getting a "fatal error" it just gets a "open drive" error... and when you close it, it'll generally restart.

I remember when I rented Dark Summit, the GameCube was clicking every few seconds. But that's only because it was trying to cry.
