Famicom-Themed Micro Hits N. America
« on: November 03, 2005, 12:33:06 PM »
The top-selling Game Boy Micro color in Japan will make the overseas trip that its inspiration never achieved.

OLD FAVORITE NINTENDO IS NEW AGAIN   WITH RETRO-STYLED GAME BOY MICRO

Limited-Edition Micro and $10 Coupon Celebrate 20th Anniversary of the NES

REDMOND, Wash., Nov. 5, 2005 – To celebrate 20 years of unprecedented success in the video game industry, Nintendo is making its newest game system look exactly like its first one – only much smaller.

A retro version of its Game Boy® Micro comes to the Western Hemisphere on Nov. 28, honoring the 20th anniversary of the Nintendo Entertainment System® home console. The new Game Boy Micro base unit will be maroon with a gold NES-inspired faceplate, and will sell at an MSRP of $99.99. It also will come packed with a $10 coupon that can be used toward the purchase of select Nintendo-published Game Boy Advance games.

“The Special 20th Anniversary Edition Game Boy Micro is an anniversary present to millions of Nintendo fans, who 20 years ago single-handedly built this entire industry,” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications.

Game Boy Micro represents the coolest piece of hardware in Game Boy® history. It’s small enough to slip into the tightest pair of jeans, and at 2.4 ounces, light enough to carry anywhere.

It's nifty and all, but I hope Nintendo releases an NES themed faceplate.

I was going to say the same thing.

Mmmm...it could look much more like the NES controller than the NES-themed GBA SP did.

omg I want it but Ill prefer a DS, even if this really hits me with nostalgia like no other. Of course a famicom DS would be just too good for words.

As I said in the other thread, I have to buy one now.  Damn you Nintendo!  Quit taking my money!

EDIT:  I wonder how easy it will be to buy Famicom replacement face plates?  Since the system body is that dark red color, I don't think I would ever want to not use the Famicom face plate.  If the one it comes with gets scratched up, can I buy a replacement?

Also, does it say Happy! Mario 20th on the back?  Because that is so money.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I need one of these desperately....but I don't have the money. I'm thinking about stealing one. Do you think that a "wario land made me do it" defense would fly in court?

After they removed "Shine Get!" from Mario sunshine, I have no faith in NOA's ability to see the appeal of horribly wonderful engrish.

Look like I have to get a famicom mirco

"will sell at an MSRP of $99.99."

"It also will come packed with a $10 coupon that can be used toward the purchase of select Nintendo-published Game Boy Advance games."

"Of course a famicom DS would be just too good for words. "

A snesDS would be more likely.

a N64 style DS would be better since the DS hardware is closest to the 64s........wonter what that would look like
Is that the best you got?

n64 wasn't very distinctive...at least not as distinctive as both the Famicom and the NES were.

I'll bet that the US box doesn't have the wonderful presentation that the Japanese box has.  I love how the micro is sitting on Bowser's bridge, and then when you lift out all the manuals and stuff, there's Princess Toadstool and Mario with "THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING FAMICOM VERSION".  Great stuff.
It's got a duck bill, you moron!
