No, it didn't. Sony came up with that before Nintendo unveiled the controller. It works in conjunctrion with the eye-toy, and is hardly a controller replacement: it doesn't come close to providing the functionality of either the dual shock or the REV controller.
“...there are those who would...say, '...If I could just not have to work everyday...that would be the most wonderful life in the world.' They don't know life. Because what makes life mean something is purpose.  The battle. The struggle.  Even if you don't win it.” - Richard M. Nixon

Still, if it's integrated in to the PS3 right off the bat, then it's copying.

That idea has several flaws that make it inferior to the rev controller:
1.  I dont know about this technology they were talking about for depth, so I have no idea how well that would work

2.  If it uses leds to tell the difference between players, then the players would always have to point the led at the camera to prevent it from mixing up the players (can you imagine suddenly switching players with your friend>)

3.  this might not pick up angles too well (if you are pointing it directly at the camera, then you spin it, I dont know how well that would work)

I do have to agree though that if sony does release this, it would be one hell of a copy, and there would be no denying it.  Then there would be fanboys trying to say that nintendo copied it off of sony.

If people we're afraid of tiring their arms by waving the NRC this will in a much higher degree. Since you have to aim the light into the eye-toy you have to aim it when going up and down with your arm. I mean, try it, try aiming a small light at a area while moving your arm up and down in a larger area.

The NRC can measure tilting and angels ,this can't by no degree. It's more of lightgunmouse then something else. Besides, can't Nintendo sue anone who uses technologie gamewise that can simulate the NRC in any kind of way. This is could be a huge contender for a lawsuit if Sony plans on releasing it.

This isn't copying for that 1 this is only to be used with the eyetoy game, 2 it has no button, 3 it only a point to help track were you are, and 4 dosen't come close to doing any thing that the rev controller can.

it wouldnt officially be a copy, but it would still be a rip-off from ninty, and a very dirty move, even though the eye toy ting wouldnt work as well

So seeing as they unveiled this before the NRC, Nintendo copied. So this "Revoultion" would still be a rip-off from Sony, and a very dirty move......

There are a few reasons why this is untrue.

First of all, the technology is quite different.  The sony device does not provide the same functionality that the Revolution controller does.  It is only 2 dimensional and it couldn't be used for almost anything but pointing, and while that is the gist of the Rev controller, the additional buttons and movement options will make many games possible that this sony idea wouldn't.  Not to mention that as an add-on to the eye toy this isn't intended for main stream games, but as more of an add-on to improve the eye-toy.

Secondly, this isn't and wasn't ever sony's main focus this generation.  Even if Sony had an exact copy of the Rev controller designed years before Nintendo ever came up with (or, in this hypothetical situation "stole") the idea, I would give a lot of credit to Nintendo for having the balls to actually base an entire console around the idea.  This would be like if the X-box 360's controller was like a beefed up DK bongo...if Microsoft could make great games with it, then more power to them.

Third, in video games "dirty moves" are the ones that make the industry better in most cases.  Many PS2 games would suck without analog control, and Nintendo even used Sony's idea of using two analog sticks to make the GC controller better.

Technically speaking if Nintendo copied anyone with the Rev controller it would be those sh!tty games with the tennis rackets or baseball bats that plug into your TV.  No one is copying anyone, there all just sharing ideas to bring us, the consumer, a better product....[joke]except sony who totally stole all their ideas from nintendo.[/joke]

I hear Nintendo stole the Revolution controller's idea from my Palsonic TV remote and Palsonic is going to sue Sega because they get Nintendo and Sega confused and Sega can't afford to go to court so they sold their shoes and now PS3 will have shoes.

I have my sources.

There are a few reasons why my comment was a joke or humour-filled.

Firstly I copied the original comment by Zach, changing his comment to represent the true facts. That this was created before the NRC.

Secondly I thought it was pretty sarcastic sounding, a mockery of the comment that came from Zach. His comment was pretty lame and inaccurate. I also made the word "copied" in italics to add sarcasm, sort of. I realise that the two technologies are different, and to be used in different ways.

And last but not least, probably the biggest reason that my post was written to be seen as a joke, was that I used more than one "full-stop" at the end. Six infact!

I am sorry if you read my post in the wrong context.

Dasmos:  Well you came off as actually thinking that the Rev controller was a total copied idea...I now understand the context you meant and apologize for making you read my long winded reply.

Oh, and Zachs comment was quite off, but I forgive him because his signiture made me laugh.

It looks like I was a little unclear, sorry I can do that sometimes, so allow me to clarify.  It would be a dirty move because I have not seen sony really pushing this eye-toy accessory, and like MrMojo said, "a lot of credit to Nintendo for having the balls to actually base an entire console around the idea."  If sony were to push this as an alternative to the rev controller (even though it wouldnt work as well)  THAT would be a dirty move.

Also, I have to admit that I did fail to look at the date for the sony patent, which contributed to my comment being as off as it was.
