If anyone thinks that "Puppy Times" is a better name than "Nintendogs" then they are an idiot and they are going to hell.  Straight to hell to burn for eternity with their stupid "Puppy Times."

"Puppy Times" is what the American version was renamed shortly after E3 last year. In recent months though, they changed it back to "Nintendogs" (confirmed by Reggie in one of the many pre-GDC interviews he did). NOA just hasn't updated their site.

About getting new puppies: u can buy them in the dog kennel. But you don't have enough money to buy more than one at the beginning of the game. You win money at competitions, etc.

I actually liked the name Puppy Times better than Nintendogs. Nintendogs, to me, sounds pretty cheesy... but whatever.

Regardless of the name, this game looks like it'll be tons of fun.

I know that, but I didn't think you could buy ALL of them, I thought you could only buy the five that are originally in the game.  Bill may be right though, i.e. only after certain criteria are reached.

You can also unlock new dogs wirelessy via other owners of Nintendogs.

Say you brought your DS with you to the store (turned on of course)...if someone else had their DS on with Nintendogs in range, your puppies can "visit" each other, thereby unlocking a new breed in your game (if the visiting puppy was not yet unlocked". Items can also be shared this way. Mind, you don't need to have physically met the person or any of that...you might not know this exchange occured until you opened up your DS again.

The above is a true story BTW...the above account was posted in the Nintendogs thread on the GAF board.

So this game has sold well over 100,000 copies in the 4 day period. In the same period more than 70,000 DS' were sold as well.
Color me impressed...I certainly won't be discounting the power of "kawaii" in the future...

The DS has a huge advantage over the PSP right now: games increase system sales. The PSP is selling steadily but new game releases aren't making any sort of splash. The sooner Animal Crossing and Mario Kart come out the better. And hopefully Nintendogs continues to become a phoenominon.

Alright, first Nintendogs gets a perfect score, and now it's breaking records, both for the game itself and the DS. This is becoming a weeeeeeeeee bit insane.

Could Nintendogs be (-gasp-)... the next Pokemon?

How about "the First Nintendogs"...DogZ doesnt count (nor its demon siblings caTz and BabyZ...UGH).

With as much success as this piece of software has enjoyed in less than a week...surely Nintendo is already plotting a sequel or expansion.

Apparently with some random screaming of commands and a little luck, it IS possible to win some of the easier Dog Shows =P

This game will rock, I'll call all three of my puppies 'hey you' causing them and everyone on the train to look at me at the same time, triggering an explosion. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?"

Isn't Famitsu super strict with giving out all 10s? I can only remember OoT, Wind Waker, Vagrant Story and Soul Calibur getting 40/40s.

This is really exciting. I can't wait for Nintendogs to come out over here!

This passer-by function I'm hearing about...that's something pretty cool that I'd want to check out, but didn't NoA say that the ability for DS's to detect other DS's while in sleep mode was left out of the North American version?  Does that mean that when Nintendogs comes out over here this fall that we won't be able to experience the passer-by function without having our DS's open?

Also thought I'd point out this blog, it gives some pretty neat insight onto the game:
http://puppytimes.blogspot.com/

EDIT: It's also pretty neat that when your dog visits another DS you can attach a voice message to give to the other user (example fromt he blog above, "Please be nice to Inui [the user's labrador]."

Just to back up Stimutacs response, all DS' are pretty much the exact same.

Any game can be programmed to constantly be on the lookout for other DS', whether through a mode you can select from the option/Main screen or even during gameplay.
