Star Wars Episode 3 DS
« on: April 14, 2005, 05:10:03 AM »
What do you guys think of the new Star Wars 3 screenshots?

The 3D engine is simple, but I like the stylized look.  It reminds me of the cartoon, mixed with alittle oldschool gaming.  The explosions looked cool.  All in all if they can get the engine to run smooth it could be awesome.

Now, the sidescrolling aspects I am worried about.  One of my favorite games is oldschool Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade, and if its done cool like that then the sidescrolling levels can be awesome.

If not, then I am afraid it won't be.

My biggest fears is that sidescrolling beat'em ups get boring single player.  Multiplayer really enhances the entire experience.

Oh, and lets hope we get some single cart multiplayer deathmatch space fighting.

OK, what the heck?  With Robots the game at least looked better colorwise, this however other than the resolution looks NO different.  I wouldn't mind this too much if the 2D parts looks like something the DS would do, like better color, 2 1/2 D backgrounds or just a ton of 3D effects like Castlevania.  As it stands now, this is unacceptable.  This is just the GBA game with a more elaborate 3D part.

The Millenium Falcon looks TERRIBLE. It's bad enough that it has that ugly low resolution backside, but it's just one big jaggy for the back. The DS can do way better than that.

First Rayman, now this! Ubisoft are on a quest to make every DS game look like some scrapped 32X game.

I wonder who UBI contracted for this one.  Or, I think the better question would be who's doing PoP WW when time comes for the handheld versions.  Seeing this happen makes me wonder.

I imagine that either the graphics are slightly stylized, but also a lower quality to keep frame rate up, and allow for larger amounts of action on screen.

Either that or its a poorly done shody game.  But we don't know that until we get the reviews.

You know what, I'm not gonna kill it yet.  I think I'll give the GBA version a shot whenever it arrives to see how it came out.  If I find it OK, I may get the DS one, but ONLY if there's a marked improvent overall that makes it worth the extra $$$.   I still don't like how its GBA plus though, at least Madagascar was given somewhat of a graphical overhaul on the DS to take advantage of it.

I think the game was based on the cartoon version of star wars (for more info go to cartoon network), thats why the explosion was cell shaded and the characters looked cartoonish

but the ships have a realistic look to it... or at least try to be. You can't have to opposing styles together like that. They have to decide on one or the other.

EDIT: This is in regards to the space combat and how the explosions look cartoony while the ships look real
