Also look at the captions for the Animal Crossing picture on the DS front page (between Mario Kart and Advance Wars):

That information comes from a spanish interview with Fils-Aime so it's pretty credible.

It may very well happen.  The GDC website has this to say about his speech:

"In the Nintendo keynote, entitled "The Heart of a Gamer," Iwata will assess where the games business stands today, predict how it will develop over the next several years, and the manner in which it will help decide future Nintendo hardware and software development."

Sounds like the perfect opportunity to announce a plan for the DS' future.  Thursday at 10:30am Pacific/1:30pm Eastern... start looking for news around 2pm.  We'll be on the lookout, that's for sure.

We should keep an eye on that thread over at warp pipe...  It was created by a mod and stickied before the event even starts?  Preventative moderation because they don't want 150000 threads come thursday?  Could be...

Though details are scattered, we've heard that the keynote won't just offer mention of such a service, but will actually have interactive demonstration of the Nintendo DS' online functions with specific games that utilize the functions. These games will be revealed during Iwata's keynote speech

Thats from IGN as well...

Hopefully it means Metroid Prime Hunters will be online.

I'm kind of hoping absolutely nothing happens tomorrow.

When you think about it, Nintendo never said anything or hinted anything about tomorrow except that it would be a keynote speech. This whole fiasco is just from a bunch of rumors that everybody's taking as the gospel.

I think he's referring to Link, as in the new LoZ.

Oh my God, I'm so freaking pumped for this.  I got a pretty good feeling something magical's gonna happen.  Even if it's not online DS (which it sure as hell better be), I think we're gonna hear something that's gonna make us all wanna piss ourselves.

Hmm.  DS was announced earlier than E3.  I'm probably being too hopeful thinking Revolution will be unveiled tomorrow, but hey.

There's absolutely no way the Rev will be shown off tomorrow, but anything else is fair game...To say that nothing will happen because Ninty didn't say so is kind of ironic, as Ninty never says anything anyway, so you can't use that as evidence either...Either way, I am looking forward to Iwata's speech...

"Hmm. DS was announced earlier than E3. I'm probably being too hopeful thinking Revolution will be unveiled tomorrow, but hey."

There's no point in showing the Rev before E3.  The DS going online (and thus Nintendo going online) is big enough news that seperating it from E3 and seperating it from the Rev's debut would be worthwhile.

Since the PSP is launching with online games it would make sense for Nintendo to reveal the DS online plans now to try to steal some thunder from the upcoming PSP launch.  I think it's possible for this news to be revealed tomorrow though if it isn't I'll be mad at IGN not Nintendo.  I feel Nintendo still has until E3 to release this info without it being too late.

About DS wireless Internet play. Yes, we're going to be making announcements about that tomorrow. And there's going to be a lot of activity that we'll be sharing now through E3 and to the end of this year. We'll be launching wireless enabled games on DS this year.

Cool, confirmation! It's smart to announce it now for two reasons, one is the one Ian highlighted, and the other is the PSP US launch is coming up, so it's a good time to get some Nintendo DS hype going.

Hmmm, I do recall saying that Nintendo wouldn't put WiFi 802.11b into the DS for no reason...

This is news that should have been announced a long time ago. I commend Nintendo for finally relizing this now letting fans know where they stand. Regie basically stated in an interview that when the Gamecube was launched, he would have done things differently. Online play would have been one of those things. I really have an Xbox just for Xbox Live. With a free service, it should be pretty cool.

Now the one thing is that it will apperently be wireless online only. This could be that you need to have wireless internet or some form. Hopefully Nintendo could sell a stream lined device that can plug into a router to do this. Nintendo is really now trying to lay down the right track for the Revolution and I commend them for it.
