Topic: Dumb Dad Colosseum Question

My 8 year-old son and I just started w/colosseum. We are using the strategy guide and are stuck.We are in Phenac City and have just beaten Team Snagum Wakin. The guide now says to go back to Outskirt Stand to pick up Poke Balls (5 for free so it says?). We try to go outside of town to pull up the map to go back, however, our traveling companion says we need to get Poke Balls at the Poke Mart. Then, we can't leave the city, or pull up the map. We are stuck. We went to the shopand there are no Poke Balls for sale, so we can't buy any. We've done every battle, searched every inch of Phenac City, and can't do anything else. How do we get back to Outskirt Stand? Or, pull up the map? Or do anything else???

We are confused and frustrated, please help !!!!!!!
