Hey, Internet! So like, there's this new Australian version of Edge and stuff now, the current issue has INTERVIEW WITH A REGGIE. He kicked my scanners ass (and took its name.)
Why isn't he President of Earth yet?

... They also 'interviewed' NAL (blol). HELLO I WORK HERE, WHY HAVE WE FAILED?

I like how it implies they've been working harder with third parties as soon as came on to the scene. I guess that explains the incredible DS support and hopefully Nintendo's next home console. I find it a bit awkward that he constantly avoids the fact that the GC is failing though.

That NAL (Nintendo Australia) interview is hilarious. The GameCube or GBA barely exist here and that old woman thinks everything is going fine and is looking forward to the DS failing here as well. Unless they actually plan on advertising the DS... wait.. hahahahaha. Her logic is also pretty stupid considering you could say the same thing about Mario as she did to Halo and implied with Grand Theft Auto. Everyone at NAL should be fire and replaced with Reggie clones. I'd like to see Reggie (or Iwata) pay NAL a visit.

AHAHAHAHA

All he has to do is mention "ass" and it's automatically a great interview.  Well done.  I think.  Oh.

THAT OLD LADY is sooo FIRED.  Everything she says are paraphrases from E3.

NAL = 7.9

Thanks Infernal.

NAL's been acting a bit better recently, distribution wise. My local EB (which goes directly through NAL) got copies (note the plural) of Donkey Konga, and after selling within the hour its copy of Tales, was sent half a dozen more in less than a week. That's quite an improvement.

How much funding does NAL get? It must be admitted that seem to get a raw deal in terms of PAL releases, and possibly funding. I'm wondering if NAL is really necessary anymore... I mean, they actively detract from games with their advertising and have a tendancy to screw up the distribution. Why not do it by proxy from a special branch in Japan and forget about advertising?

Does anyone else here know why GBA games cost more than twice the price they do in the states here? Anything to do with NAL?

Hopefully witht he rise of their market in China they can create Nintendo Asia-Pacific to act over all the garbage that stretches from Monaco Corp. in NZ to mainland Asia. It's a chance, afterall they consolidated Nintendo Europe from the million subsiduaries.

Realistically I think you could grab a handful of the Aussie forumers on this site, put them in charge of NAL, and at worst they could produce the same results.

I like how Reggie says that "walking in the door" he felt strongly about the "demographic targeting issue" (ie: TEH I LOVE HALO 2) and creating new franchises and innovation.  Those are two of Nintendo's biggest issues and it's good to see that someone working at NOA acknowledges that.  Now the DS launch is the first major Nintendo milestone to occur since Reggie joined and I think it's the worst launch they've ever had so I don't know yet how effective Reggie will be.  Still I've wanted someone to come into Nintendo and aggressively shake things up for a long time and Reggie sounds like he could be that person.  I just hope that NCL won't handcuff him.  NCL's inexperience with the American market has been the cause of many of the Cube's problems and if they keep insisting on purple being the main colour and junk like that then Reggie can't fix anything.

Good interview.  I like the "Did you have any particular names and asses in mind?" question.

I may have to look at Edge magazine more often.  Sounds interesting.

Well I think software wise the DS launch is about equal to the cube's.  But one huge way they are different is hype.  I don't exactly know how, but people are really excited about the DS.  I don't have cable (on weekdays) so maybe marketing is the reason for this hype.  Initial hype is more important then initial software when selling a system.  So I'd argue Reggie is being very effective especially since he can't control what games actually launch with a system.

Ok, you want new franchise for Nintendo? Here's a great idea, why not a Reggie fighting game for the any of the Nintendo systems? You get to play as Reggie and go around kicking ass and taking names. I know I'll be the first in line to buy it.

Reggie has 9999 charisma points!  I hope NCL is giving the guy some credit, Reggie may not be an expert on games, but he's one heck of a salesman!

I like the points he makes about innovation, though I do still wonder if Nintendo is running headfirst into a dark alley with Revolution.  I want innovation, but I'm sure I'm not the only person who still wants to play a few of the same old games, too.  In fact, Nintendo is making a bundle of money from that very concept with the NES Classics series.

I also love the part about DS versus PSP.  I couldn't agree more that the media passed the DS by unfairly for the hype surrounding an incomplete system.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Yeah, that would be nice, we might even get the iQue here. Though with our luck they'd liquidate NAL and have Atari distribute instead.

On a side note, since EB games has been gaining more and more of the market in New Zealand, I'm beginning to think it likely that Monaco will be sufficently annoyed to drop their contract with Nintendo. They almost did just because they lost a few bucks with the 64, and they've strangled Cube distribution (and cut off all advertising) here as a result. Nobody else would take up Nintendo's contract so whoever decides these things is faced with cutting off NZ altogether and letting EB monopolise. This is the sort of senario that might get someone bigger than NAL interested in the region.

Reggie for Dictator!

Great interview.  He's talking some smack, but not so much as to sound too arrogant.

If nothing else, that NAL lady is more photogenic than Perrin Kaplan...

It might be her first interview.  You can tell she's been waiting ages for one.
