NEW Super Mario Bros, Another - RELEASE DATES REVEALED
« on: December 24, 2004, 08:30:05 AM »
EDIT: Sorry, pressed the "Enter" button instead of "Tab."

So anyhow.  Mario has a Feb 2005 release date, and Another has a specifically Feb 24, 2005 - more than definitely for Japan, though.  But that means our stateside release isn't too far off, I guess.

I hope they don't call it "New Super Mario Bros".  That name just sounds really lame.  It doesn't help that "The New Whatever" is usually used in the entertainment industry for crappy spin-offs.

The Feb. 2005 release date suggests to me that they were aiming for launch but couldn't pull it off in time so they ported Super Mario 64 instead.

I've been waiting for a game to convince me to buy the DS and this could be it.  Though obviously I want to know more about it.  If it's just the original Super Mario Bros with polygon graphics I won't even go near it.  I think we're due for some new screens and some solid information on what the game is about.

Though it's a damn shame we never got a new 2D sprite based Mario sidescroller on the GBA.

Naw, the video we have has a Goomba using the Mushroom and becoming big.  Not just the original.

And I couldn't agree more with your launch logic.

Perhaps it's a Zero Mission-style remake of SMB1?

I highly doubt New Super Mario Bros is coming out that soon. We don't even know the official title yet.

Meteos is also coming out in February in Japan. Hopefully it doesn't flop like Lumines.

Hmmm...a Zero Hour type Remake.

I don't think that would be as nice as you think.  The original Metroid needed to be remade.  It was way to frustrating with the limited graphics to understand where to go, or even sometimes HOW to go.

The original Mario didn't have that problem and it is still as playable today even compared to today's standards as it was to play back then.

I would love to see a blending of the Mario 64 game mechanics in a 2D Mario personally.  I would love to see levels designed to require wall jumps, sumersault jumps and all the other special jumps from Mario 64 within the tight game design of a 2D experience.

Keep the Mushrooms, and the fireplant, but now allow all enemies to collect all powerups.  Make a powerup  a doubleedged sword if you miss collecting it.

This to me is the next step for the Mario experience and gameplay.  Fuse the two concepts together into one experience.

blol, New Super Mario Bros. will be the first NEW Super Mario platform game on a handheld system since.. what... Super Mario Land 2 back in 1993. Unless you wanna count the Wario Land games. COUNT 'EM GOOD. I'm looking forward to Another more, though. Especially if New Super Mario is going to turn out anything like that crap they showed at E3.

Well Super Mario Land 3 was actually the first Wario Land game, strange that Nintendo did that.  Still a great game, but odd that it is a Mario game and you don't play Mario.

I think Ninty was more worried people would hear "Wario Land" and be "WTF is this Mario ripoff thing?" and wanted to get out a game to really reveal Wario to the public before using his names in game titles...

And I strongly doubt that Ninty won't add to the E3 demo of the New SMB...

New Super Mario Bros is strangely absent from PGC's updated release schedule.  Linky.

It doesn't even get an "unknown" status.  Sadness.

Any why the heck does it take 6 months to port Polarium?

You know what? I have a feeling that the new Mario is not coming out in Febuary... just doesn't seem likely. You know. Since we don't have any information on this game whatsoever.

It doesn't take a feeling to tell that it's not coming out next month, just a little common sense...
