Why do fighting game makers always drop some older characters from newer installments? So they can sell another version that has the missing ones half a year later?

KDR you hit the nail on the head. Maybe they also do it to keep the roster "fresh". Maybe  Midway milled out some un popular characters or maybe game balancing issues?

I was under the impression that (straight from some guy at midway) MK was going to have every single character from every single mortal combat game.

Well, i suppose a large portion of them can just be extra skins.

(Every character?  Aha, a lot of them DIED, ok?  People do seem to die in deathmatch tourneys )

And what the heck!?  Both Mileena and Kabal are supposed to be DEAD...Mileena was killed TWICE, even...Why can't characters just STAY dead? >=(

I see no Reptile, and by Reptile I mean traditional green pajama Reptile, not the pantsy new age reptile from the other new Mortal Kombat. Geez, they have Error Macro but no Reptile.. grrr.

Also Noob Saibot.

Midway has Liu Kang as a GD spirit.  Come on, Midway, let him go. :/   I also read that tidbit (every character present) as well and since when are the stories of Mortal Kombat that accurate.

"I see no Reptile"

Reptile = Dragon King now...Yes, it's sad... ;_;

"I also read that tidbit (every character present) as well and since when are the stories of Mortal Kombat that accurate."

The series has had an assortment of canon and non-canon character storylines(the non-canon bits being mostly seeing things like Classic Sub-zero or Goro as a character in later games, because both are dead storyline-wise)...And as far as I saw from the previous storylines, Mileena has been killed by Katana, twice and Kabal was killed by Mavado?  I can't remember if that was him, but the character that killed him even has Kabal's hooksword things... :\

Wasn't the whole point of Mortal Kombat that in the end everybody but you is dead (i.e. fatalitied)?

That's always confused me, but it's like in a lot of games that may let you to finish in multiple ways, but there's only one true ending(like the true ending for MKI was that Liu Kang won the tourney)

Now see im suprised, my opinion is that they brought back alot of characters for this new game.  I mean like, Kabal? Thats goin back to MK3.  Nightwolf? Just as old school.  Supposbly the game features like some sort of trophy mode like in SSBM or somethin that has every single character in it, I forget.  But all i know is in one way or form, everyone is in it.  Im just excited that they brought back, Smoke.  Hes neither human or robotic, hes actually smoke!!

I didn't really like the first game but it was different and that was a good thing.  Too bad it wasn't fluid and lack of running.

the whole mk storyline is very confusing....could somebody sum it up, or is that too much hooplah? Consider it a challenge ;-)

Mortal Kombat: Evil guy goes "mmmm" and tries to take over the world with punching and kicking. Other people go "ooooh" and challenge evil guy because they want a custom title. "Winner of punching and kicking". Goro came along, "I have bowel problems" and took it out on whoever was winning. Then the punching and kicking champion went "yes".

Mortal Kombat II: Evil. Challenge. Win. Yes. All the people who died via fatality had their own fairy things in a bottle. Much like Zelda, but with blood or something. Winner could be friends with opponent if they wanted. HERE IS CAKE OH YOU ARE ALREADY DEAD, I WILL CONSUME FOR THE BOTH OF US. MKII was also zomg furry.

Mortal Kombat III: This was a video game.

Mortal Kombat IV: Everyone found out they can carry weapons if they use their arms, they also hit eachother with them if wanted. This is where blood looked like ice cream cones.

Mortal Kombat - DA: Winner of first MK, even if he wasn't the winner.. gets his spine BROKE. Mini game to the Hospital. Two dudes are very evil, characters are very old and large in this version, they challenge the two bad dudes to rescue the President or something. DOA JIGGLE ENGINE.

Mortal Kombat - Deception: Nevada girl will win.
