Nintendo Gaming / SMA4 looks FUNKED UP!
« on: May 15, 2003, 11:29:15 AM »
I don't know if this is accurate, but based on the E3 video, I think this is the complete Super Mario All Stars collection. I saw footage of this game, including it's SMB1 and SMB2 segments with the spiffed up graphics of All Stars, and this leads me to believe that this is not just SMB3, but in fact every game that appeared in Super Mario All Stars. A port of the entire All Stars, if you will.

Nintendo Gaming / calling all gba sp owners!

Y'know I thought I could initially see some dust particles in my SP, but it turned out to be a trick of my eyes putting 2 dust particles on the surface into the background. I haven't seen any dust after that.

Nintendo Gaming / Which is a better SP colour as regards scratching?

I don't own one, but I checked out the display models at a store, and both the silver and metallic blue models showed obvious signs of wear (as it had only been out a few days, they must have really gotten worked over by the crowds [it was a very busy store...]!).  The black model looked much better, though I think this may be in part because the underlying plastic is black just like the paint (as far as I could see, the black model is actually painted too, though I could be wrong about this), making any wear/scratches a lot less obvious.

I've found my black SP to be very scratch resistant. (yes it is painted black, has a fine metallic powder in the paint as well, looks pretty good) I wear a metal ring on my right hand while playing and it's still not accumulated a scratch from playing. I cart the thing around in my pocket and once again it hasn't recieved any scratches.

I recall them leveraging a man's ass to get the ladies to pay attention. There's alot of male models that appear in these ads, suggesting that women can get something out of it too.

Nintendo Gaming / GBA vs GBA SP
« on: March 10, 2003, 02:45:47 AM »
I got my black SP about a week ago and I'm pretty dang impressed. The light is a godsend, allowing you to play it in any lighting condition. The screen is protected by the clamshell folding case, and the paint, contrary to previous reviews, isn't easy to scratch at all. The buttons are a little more firm to press (clicky) than the original GBA, but you get used to it. People with larger hands will need to explore new ways of holding it to play comfortably, which lies mostly in wether you need to use the L+R buttons often. The A button is slightly firmer than the B button, probably for added durability, since teh A button is pressed the most.

Those of you that think the SP is junk because it doesn't have a build in headphone adapter can suck a nut. I mean the thing is like 5$. Look what you get in return, an included AC adapter. The original GBA doesn't even have that option. The built in battery lasts forever, even with the light on, which is nice becuase you'll probably have it on most of the time.

Oh and about the speaker, it's definitly louder and fuller than the original GBA speaker. I could barely hear anything coming out of the original GBA. The headphone out also seems to deliver more power to the headphones. BTW that headphone adapter came in teh smallest box I've ever seen, you probably couldn't even fit a silver dollar in it.

I spent about 140$ on the system, including shipping, and have no regrets. The SP is a must have unit for anyone looking to buy a new GBA. The speaker is loud enough you might not even need to get the headphone adapter, but if you do, the sound output is great. Even if you're a cheapskate, the SP is still the way to go. The money you save on batteries and afterburner installation pays for the difference in cost exponentially.

Nintendo Gaming / Gameboy Advance SP extra batteries???
« on: February 20, 2003, 11:18:42 PM »
Believe the guy, the reason litium ion is so useful is because it never develops a memory from premature charging. In fact, it's better to do so than running the battery down to absolute squat power. If you run it to nothing and leave it that way for long it will decrease the capacity.

TalkBack / Platinum SP Warning
« on: February 20, 2003, 10:53:41 PM »
Wow, I'm glad I decided to get a black one.

I was looking at one of my friend's platinum GBA's and it had no signs of damage whatsoever, yet he treats it horribly. I'm guessing the method of applying paint is different. I may be wrong but the GBA platinum looks powdercoated, so perhaps one of these these chinese manufacturing plants produced some units (or all factories/units) with a cheaper paint application.

I'll repost here when I get my black SP and report any difference.

Nintendo Gaming / Pokemon's Replay Value

...  Are the pokemon games just getting too repetative or am i just growing ( maturely ) out of pokemon ? Does anyone else feel this way?

I bought the blue version and played the thing to death back in 10th grade, and ended up buying a GBA for Silver (imported). I don't recall enjoying the silver version as much because I couldn't understand half of it, but it seemed to me that G/S were just color versions of the first ones with afew added features.

I'm hoping Ruby/Sapphire will have some dynamic elements, or something in general that will make the experience as rewarding as the first games. I've played some of the import, but of course I can't draw conclusions on something I can't even read. My biggest hope is that there is some big side quest thing or a seemingly neverending amount of unnescessary objectives that one may pursue if they need to break away from the monotony.

I doubt age is an issue. I'm 20 and I still have alot of interest in the upcoming title. I've heard far more young'ins than adults badmouthing pokemon - with the poor reasoning that it's for little kids.

Nintendo Gaming / Is FF12 coming to GameCube? (discussion/debate)
« on: February 12, 2003, 09:58:45 AM »
I don't think FFXII will get ported.

I hope you all aren't forgetting the inevitable programming limitations of having multiple discs. The entire game world and it's enemies and whatnot MUST be able to fit on one disc for a multi disc port to work. Remember FFVIII? Cinema filled up so much of each disc that they were unable to pack in the entire world into the last disc, making towns and other areas inaccessible.

To port FFXII would require the entire world and it's elements to be able to fit on one disc. I believe FF:CC could do it simply because it's a completely 3d game, and will probably not even have FMV(In-game 3d cinema most likely).

Let's just hope that the next Nintendo system has a proprietary format that is somehow capable of more storage space than it's future competitors.
