Nintendo Gaming / Has there ever been an interview with retro?
« on: June 19, 2003, 06:57:10 PM »
I enjoy reading interviews with employees of dev studios, but I have never seen one with a retro person? Does such a thing exist?

Nintendo Gaming / Too human

Yes, they are still working on too human. Dennis has said that multiple times. Just look at PGC interviews with him. I think it will be a while before we see it again though.

Nintendo Gaming / the most disheartening crap i have read.....ever
« on: May 20, 2003, 05:34:45 PM »
I wouldn't be suprised at all. If this is true, I'm sure microsoft is making it worth it for them.

I wish companies would focus on making great games, not making money.

Nintendo Gaming / Namco and Sega merger OFFICIAL!!!
« on: April 20, 2003, 08:23:11 AM »
Looks like its going to be the biforce arcade board.

Out of the billions of games I own I don't think I have ever bought a namco game before. I've briefly played soul caliber and I've played lots of pacman, but other than that I have no idea how good namco is. Although, Soul Caliber 2 looks sweet.

At any rate, I hope this is good news.

Nintendo Gaming / Xbox fan buys Gamecube....story at 11.
« on: April 09, 2003, 06:00:54 PM »
Wow. I thought I had a lot of games(25 gamecube, 7 xbox).

It's great to see someone whos really really into 1 console try out another (especially one that has been labeled as "kiddy" by society), and really enjoy it. Contrats, enjoy your cube.

Anyways my absolute must have list are(9.5-10):
Mario Sunshine
Zelda (Master Quest and Wind Waker)
Metroid Prime
Eternal Darkness(this seems to be a love it or hate it game, but personaly i think it's one of the best and most origional games ever)

and my Gotta have list(9-9.49):
Super Monkey Ball
Super Smash Brothers Melee
Waverace
Resident Evil Remake

and my great game list(8-9):
Super Monkey Ball 2
Resident Evil
Pikmin
Animal Crossing
Sonic adventure 2
Luigis mansion

and my dont get list(0-7):
Starfox Adventures(probably the best one on the dont get list by far though)
Nightfire
Agent under fire

Also look forward to:
Mario 128
F-Zero
Starfox armada
Metroid Prime 2
Pikmin 2

I'm missing alot of stuff, but you get the picture.

Anything on my must have or gotta have list you should definatly consider having in your collection, then everything that you can afford in the great game list should go into ur collection also, but they arn't priority.

Enjoy both your consoles. I definatly enjoy my both my consoles.

BTW Anyone else notice that most of these are first party games?

Nintendo Gaming / Still Smashing?
« on: March 24, 2003, 05:43:52 PM »
I play it from time to time. I used to play it 3 hours a day when i got it. Now i play it like twicea month for an hour. It's only because when I got it I had like 4 games. Now i have around 20, so I get less time with each.

I've seen it at several stores. But I have also not seen it at many stores. I don't know why that is but keep looking, it's still out there.

Nintendo Gaming / Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron III CONFIRMED
« on: March 22, 2003, 09:43:08 PM »
Why is everyone complainig? Rogue Squadron was excelent, RS2 was excelent. This is going to be an excelent game. I don't really care if they don't add a whole lot because it's already an excelent series. I don't mind if they dont mess with something thats excelent.

Nintendo Gaming / Cartoon/Anime games you'd like to have?
« on: March 22, 2003, 09:31:53 PM »
Cowboy Bebop. Too bad it would never turn out good, cause if it did that would be one sweet game.

Also tom and jerry.

12
When I first heard about it I reacted like you, but now that I think about it, the cel-shading style could be very good for fps. I can see myself playing timsplitters 3 cel-shaded. I don't think I will get the game though, since it's a third party game.

BTW A cowboy bebop game would, if done right, be sweet.

Nintendo Gaming / The Music Volume I Use = 50%

Nintendo Gaming / Where is Mario Tennis?
« on: March 18, 2003, 03:40:11 PM »
It would be cool if they release mario tennis and golf on the same disk, and mabey even mario kart. I really want them but I dont want to shove out $100 for both.

If I could only get one I would get tennis.
Mario Tennis = Tennis(the best sport) + more fun = really really really fun
Mario Golf = Gold(tremendously boring sport) + lots more fun = really fun

I love sports. I dislike sport game usually. They're simply ok, and I dont like to have ok games. I bought madden 2002 and courside, but sold them both, they were fun but not that much fun.

I hardly ever see 3rd party sports games that are worth buying. All the nintendo sports games, like 1080 and waverace, and the mario sports games were really good, but thats about it.

When I say sports games I mean sports like basketball football or baseball. I dont mean racing or snowboarding. I like most racing or snowboarding games.

Nintendo Gaming / New Sonic Adventures
« on: March 18, 2003, 03:24:24 PM »
I like sega alot. The monkey ball series has quickly become one of the best video game series in history. Sonic has always been an excellent platformer. And smilebits games are really good. Jet Set Radio also instantly became one of my favorite games, gunvalkyre and panzer dragoon orta were good too.

I'm looking forward to whatever sega has ready for us.

Nintendo Gaming / Worst Gamecube Game...
« on: March 18, 2003, 03:17:25 PM »
Wow, Luigios Mansion is one of my favorite games. It's a ton of fun, and the fact that its really short is cool two cause you can play through it once in one sitting.

Anyways of the 30 games i have purchased i would say that most 3rd party gamecube games are bad. I would say the worst one is Jedi Knight two. I never even beat the first level before I sold it.

Nintendo Gaming / I don't like metroid prime. Heres why:
« on: March 17, 2003, 05:42:13 PM »
Don't get me wrong. I love metroid prime(ok i lied a little in the thread name). I think it is an excelent game in almost every way, but I think it has a major flaw. I really love metroid games all together, but I just hard a hard time fnishing metroid prime, and now im trying to beat it in hard mode but I'm at 10% and I dont feel like playing it anymore. But don't tell me its because I don't like the type of game it is because I abosolutly love metroid fusion, metroid 1, and super metroid.

Ok, so some of you were turned off by the game's lack of a very obvious story.  Have you played Metroid Fusion?  It does not feel like a metroid game because the story is constantly being shoved down your throat.  The motivation to move forward in a metroid game has always lied in the excitement of exploring giant alien worlds, discovering and subsequently destroying amazing creatures, and finding upgrades that make the exploring and fighting all that much more fun!  If you found yourself treating the game like a chore because you were not swept up in the story then I have a suggestion for you, don't play metroid.  The scanning system is a beatiful way of adding amazing depth to atmosphere of the game, and in Metroid, that is what is important.  I find it funny and somewhat sad that you cannot enjoy the game because in order to understand how events are tied together and what your purpose in the game is you are forced to "work" by scanning objects and then connecting the dots.  Use your friggin imagination! One of my biggest complaints with many current games is that they try so desperately to be very cinematic, but games are not movies!  Obviously some game genres are very dependant on story (RPGs most notably) but that has never been what the Metroid series is about.  I applaud Retro for bringing my favorite 2D game so perfectly into 3D, both in form and spirit.

My problem with it is not neccesarily that it doesnt tie together evens or sweep you up in a story. I just dislike the fact that the only reason you want to play is the exitement of exploring huge alien enviroments and destroying amazing creatures. Thats alot of fun, but when your packing 30 hours of gameplay with just that, it will get tedious. You gotta have more than that. Something dynamic. At every point in the game you are either exploring or killing monsters just for the sake of exploring and killing monsters. You get bored of that and then your only reason for playing the game becomes to justify purchasing it. I dont want hundreds of fellow gamecube owners to be playing games just to justify their purchase.

I'm not saying that there has to be an amazing plot or anything, im just saying there needs to be something there besides exploring and killing. If you havbe a plot, at every point in a game you are at a different point in the plot, and thus have iddferent things to do, it makes variety so you don't get bored. I'm not saying there needs to be a plot or cenimatics or anything, I'm just saying thats one way, whether it fits the metroid style or not, its one way that should be considered, perhaps not the best way, but metroid prime wouldof been better with it. Look at super metroid, it didn't have the most intruiging plot or cenimatics, it focused on exploring and killing stuff just like metroid prime, but there was something else there, which metroid prime lacked, that kept people playing. Thats what metroid prime needs.

You make some good points. I also applaud retro for moving metroid to 3d with such awesomeness, and still keeping it metroid. I also like the scanning feature, it is a good way to make more depth to the game for those who want to know moer, but I dislike it being a main way to keep interest in the game. Why? Because it seems like not only me, but many people just found it too boring, and it becomes tedious.

I also disagree with you about metroid fusion. Perosonally I think not only is it the best metroid in the series(even better than the amazing super metroid) but it totally recreates and augments the metroid experience, so did mp, but for some reason I loved fusion, and I could not put it down till I had beaten it twice.

I guess one of the points im trying to make is that I want retro to look at what makes metroid fusion and super metroid so addicting and enticing that you can't stop playing it,  then add that element to all of the awesome things about metroid prime and put all those in metroid prime 2.

Don't just go think "big deal, this guy has an opinion." I think my opinion matters because many people share it with me. I want gamecube to be great. I want to brag about how sweet metroid prime is and convince more people to buy cubes, but how can I tell people that mp is the best game ever when so many people who bought it were a little dissapointed? I also hope retro reads this thread(ya right) and reads this discussion, so they can make metroid prime 2 as fantastic as its going to be.

Anyone agree with this? disagree?

EDIT: Wow, I didn't realize how long this was. I just kept typing. Sorry about the length!

Nintendo Gaming / What did Metroid Prime and Fusion get from Famitsu?
« on: March 16, 2003, 06:47:01 PM »
I bought prime and zero at the same time too. I've finished prime, but i didn't finish zero.

Both of these games have serious problems.

Despite being one of the best games i've ever played, Prime is just too boring.

and the drop/pickup system totally ruined re0. I just realized that a spend more time just carrying items around making trips back and forth to bring all my stuff to the next are than i spend actually playing the game. Other than that its a good game from what i've seen. I might beat it someday, but I just can't take it any more for now.

Metroid Prime is a great game. Exerything about that game is perfect, perfect sound, perfvect graphics, perfect gameplay, perfect execution, perfect menus, ect...But it lacks something that keeps you going. Instead of thinking "im sooo close to beating this game!!im soooo exited", its like "ugg...why the hell cant the game just end. I wanna beat it, but i dont want to go all the way over there and fight that annoying boss, then do the other stuff, and.... aw screw it im gonna go play smash brothers."

One of the problems is that the story is driven by the log book. You gotta walk around scanning things, and then read hundreds of entries. I didn't want to do that, so there basically was no story for me. Cenimatics would of been far far superior.

Also there no emotion. Some games I get really into and I really hate the bad guy, and i go " im gonna beat the living sh*t out of this motherf*cking son *!# of a@#$$ ADJ33@@!# stupid 214#!@@! $!#@@head!" then im motiovated to beat the game. OR some games are soo intruiging i can't wait to find out what happens next. But with metroid prime, theres no motivation.

I beat the game once, and I didn't enjoy it that much. I've been trying to go through it on hard, but I just can't. I can't play it anymore. When i start up the game i immediatly go to the image gallery or play metroid 1.

Anyways, I really really looking forward to metroid prime 2. If they do everything like metroid prime, ecept make it so you want to play, it will be the best game ever.

Nintendo Gaming / Sigh, some biassed Nintendo Bashing!
« on: March 16, 2003, 06:19:02 PM »
Nintendo is all about the games. NIntendo make the bast games. One of the best ways to make the best games is to take charactors that everyone loves, and make new games, and make a great game out of it. YOu are 100% sure to have a perfect game when you take a perfect series(like zelda and mario) and improve it. Nintendo makes tons of new franchises all the time, but they make sequels all the time because people know that nintendo sequels are f*cking sweet.

He complains how nintendo makes so many sequels but he totally ignores the fact that they are the best games there are.

I would take almost any nintendo sequel over almost any origional ps2 or xbox game.

Nintendo Gaming / what game wouldn't you buy for $10?
« on: March 12, 2003, 05:12:26 PM »
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.  The cel shading ruined the game. I imported it and I was extremely dissapointed. Anyone who is older than 4 who would pay $10 bucks for this game should be shot.

jk.
Actually, I would probably pay $200 bucks for wind waker.

I wouldnt buy most 3rd party games for 10 bucks unless i could sell them for almost as much or more.  I am less concerned with the money aspect of buying games than the time aspect.

Wow, never noticed yellow magic. Guess I'm not an obvservant person.

I agree that all gamemakes should put sbutiles for all important text. My two brothers are deaf, and I am sick of having to be with them every time they watch a cenimatic to tell them what people are saying(one of my few big complaints about halo).

And if you cant have text, then really really good lip syncing would work too, but not quite as well.

P.S. Watch out dennis, I might apply for a job at SK when I finish my game, if the dev studio I work for decides to do another xbox game.
