Doesn't satellite Internet suck for playing online games, because of the horrible ping times? I live out in the woods and I can NOT get any form of high speed Internet for online game playing. Seriously, I only live 3 miles from the CO box and can not get DSL. The are no cable lines, wireless towers, or anything. The only way I can get it is if I move., I even looked at my IP to see what their DSL offers, and it is only 512kbps. If anyone here wants to work for Frontiernet and bury a fiber line for me, please do so.

Nintendo DS: 1,225,594 + 2.43 million = 3,655,594

Playstation Portable: 3,630,000

Wow.

I think it is funny that GTA LCS is going to be ported to the PS2. I wonder how many Americans bought the PSP just for that game, when in a few months or so, the game will be released for the PS2, probably with tightened graphics and some extra content, boy they're going to be pissed... lol.

Does anyone know what the hardware numbers for the DS and PSP were in July (NPD)? I looked back at this thread and it went from June to August. Oh, and one more thing, were the PSP numbers for October released yet(NPD)?

Thanks again.

Whaaaaa????

That statement makes no sense.  Are you saying the people getting the game for Xmas are more likely to go online with the game than the people who went out and bought it the first week?

Even if 10,000,000 people get the game for Christmas, if the same ratio of them go online that number will still be 45%....

Uh, no. I'm saying that some people who bought the game for their friends and families will not be able to play that game until Christmas day, when they open their gifts and get to play it...

Here is some math:

112,000 sold in one week.

45% played online, which will be 50,400.

There are 61,600 that didn't play online, but how many of those are wrapped in foil and will not be able to open it to play it until Christmas?

Where did you guys get the UK Numbers? Is there a website that keeps track of all of that, kind of like Media Create for Japan? There are too many fanboys that get all rilled up when they see the DS beating the PSP, I need a good source.

"PlayStation 3's Developer Support Drops Faster Than GameCube's Did"

Quote

There have been rumors recently, particularly among a network of German, Dutch, and Japanese websites, that the PlayStation 3 is losing developer support. A Dutch website has been quoted as saying that the PlayStation 3's developer support is dropping faster than the Nintendo GameCube's did. Several developers have outright stated a preference for Microsoft's new console, the Xbox 360.

While this may sound alarming to some, it seems similar to the debacle when the PlayStation 2 came out; at the time of its release, it was criticized for being notoriously difficult to design for, yet it became the most popular console in this last generation of systems. Will the PlayStation 3 be a reenactment of this, or is Sony on the way out of the number 1 slot in the video game industry? Only time will tell.

You can't make the type of games we want to make because of load times on CD's
the space isn't neccesary and no one will need or use all that space......

Well, that statement is sorta true, only to the developers that aren't lazy. If were to use a hex editor, you'll be surprised just how much space a game really takes up. An example would be a game like Pokemon (Sapphire). Use translhextion, you'll see that the 16 MegaByte Rom has only 9 Megabytes of information stored in there at best, this is just counting the thousands of FF's and 00's that are place consecutively, not the random empty spaces that are pocketed in there. When you go into 3-D, a lot of errors are made, some bad coding, and other things left in there, like Hot Coffee. It is really up to the developers to get rid of bad coding, and save space, but, they don't. I really doubt that a PS1 game really took up 650/700 MB of space, but they were cheaper to use than carts, but then the load times. Nintendo did go to discs, got rid of load times with streaming, but IMO, they should have made the GameCube Optical Disk the size of a standard disk, we probably would see more third part support. Oh, the part about Online, see Microsoft's profits. XD

Does anyone here keep an overall sales number for the DS and PSP in North America? I read posts on other boards saying that the PSP is beating the DS in overall sales in North America, is this true? I know the PSP has been outselling it, but in overall sales that quick? I know what the overall sales number in Japan is;

2,730,876 vs. 1,562,812

Sources/Monthly #'s would be great too.

I am thinking about creating a thread, on G4 Forums, where the DS and PSP stand today. I am going to make a huge, unbiased as can, sales thread how both systems are selling on each continent. This will lead me to my next question, is there a hardware sales update on how the DS is doing in China, Australia or South America (if it is even there)?

Oh yeah, I also have one last question, when was PSP 2.0 firmware update released? I would imagine it increased PSP sales slightly, in both Japan and North America.

Yeah, in November, right before Japan's holiday season shopping. Pokemon will most likely boost DS sales just like Nintendogs. The DS has it good for the rest of the year. I wonder when there will be a price drop, that will increase sales also.....
