Nintendo Gaming / RE: ive pladed DS

Yeah, that's true, the GameCube menu was really kick arse, I'm still impressed after all these years, hehe, but for a handheld I thought the menu was decently sharp.  But we completely agree about this being the best gaming experience ever!  YAY! Only a week away! *drools*

Yeah, I completely agree with Kirby about the awesomeness of the DS, cause people keep saying, "Oh, its cool, but not great or mindblowing."  No, it is.  It's really really amazing!

And as for the menu, I thought it was simple and clean.  Not overly fancy and annoying (PS2 anyone?) and very slick.

Lol, yeah he did!  I was laughing too, so I hit the little copy button that copies what the last person typed in and erased his penis.  Then, I sent the message back, hehe.  And, yeah, he;s right about the 3.5 second loading.  Now that I think about it, it was seriously only like maybe 1.5-2 seconds, it was unbelievable.  Oh yeah, and we got to play tic-tac-toe.  When I first heard that you could, I thought you had to redraw the board everytime which wouldn't be THAT bad, but still.  But what you really do is just hit the "copy last post" button directly below the "send" button and it copies the board each time.  Then, you put your X or O on the board and send it, and s/he copies, answers, and re-sends!  It's great fun!  And, I've heard of people playing hangman that way and other such games!  Try it yourselves if you can.

YAY!  I went to EB today, and they had the DS display kiosk thingy!  And there were two of them!  So, my friend met me there and we duked it out in Metroid Prime Hunters.  Just to put any doubt out of peoples minds.... THIS THING ROCKS!!  It's not kinda fun, it's not sorta neat, it is incredible.  Everthing from graphics, which look amazing in real life, WAY better than N64, to the precision touch screen, the DS is gonna be one of the greatest inventions in the video gaming world.  I was already excited and had heard that the DS isn't all that shocking/impressive in real life, its pretty much what it looks like online.  In my opinion, it is still very cool to try out in real life.  If anyone has questions, I'll try to answer them for you.

Oh yeah, and the Power button?  It's SLIGHTLY indented into the system, and your hand never ever goes near it, so absolutely no worries of accidentally resetting or powering the system off during gameplay.  Despite it's convenient location, its about as easy to hit by accident as it is to close the screens by accident, lol.  And the buttons are really really tiny, but they're very SP-clicky (meaning they feel as clicky and responsive as the SP's) so they work very well, and I'm over 6 foot, so I have larger hands. *Is unable to wait another week* *sigh*

Sorry, one other note.  Lag? What is lag?  Yeah, there;s none of that for the DS.  It took about (literally) 3.5 seconds to fully load up the two player multi-player in Metroid, and the framerate is top notch, and didn't even slightly dip!

Nintendo Gaming / DS Game Idea: POKeMON MMO?
« on: November 09, 2004, 05:35:04 AM »
After thinking about the Starbucks and Nintendo WiFi extraveganza, I was trying to come up with a game that would REALLY incourage players to want to be "connected" as often as possible.  Then, I thought: "An MMO!  That would be great! (This is after HOURS of non-stop World of Warcraft mind you... -_-) "  So yeah, a Pokemon MMO would rock!  I mean, I'm not too much of a Pokemon fan, and haven't really played since Red and Blue (but might be one if they made this!), but they could make a more live action style battle system where you take turns, but only in the sense that you have to wait for a small delay between attacks and you can assign, or queue up, actions for your one (or two) pokemon involved in the fight.  You play directly as the trainer (which you can customise looks, clothes, sex, race, etc.) and you can throw items, pokeball, whatever into the battles.  Oh yeah, and the commands and items and stuff would be on the touch screen so that you could directly control who does what.  When pokemon level up, you'd be able to distribute points into their stats so that not everyone would have the same pikachu or snorlax as someone else.  My pikachu (Bobo) might have a really high evasion% and critical hit rate, while Switchbladecross's pikachu (Zapper) might not have such a high evasion as mine, but he has a lot of strength and defense.  So, yeah.... that's my idea for now, just thought I'd share it and see what you guys can come up with to add onto it!  I'll post more ideas later, too.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Potential NDS HotSpot
« on: November 08, 2004, 09:46:34 AM »
Yeah, you guys are right, I just read the Reggie conference on PGC's news and Reggie says that GBA targets 14-year-olds, and DS targets 19-year-olds.  I'm 20, and like norebonomis said, I like to go to coffee shops and even hang out with my friends sometimes, but honestly, sometimes I WOULD go, but there is nothing really to do there, except drink and talk.  Now, imagine if you and three other friends (old buddies or fellow Nintendo DS players you've met!) could just meet after school at Starbucks and play.  This probably really sounds fun to me, because I've only really known like 4 other GBA players in my entire time owning a GBA (which I originally got on release).  So this Starbucks idea would help people like me find more DS owners and give us something to do 1-3 times a week.

This is my letter idea:

I was just thinking of ways to market Nintendo DS, and came up with a good idea that not only fits with Nintendo's new demographic, but also provides a great place for hotspots.  Wouldn't Starbucks be an awsome place to set up official Nintendo HotSpots?  Not only are Starbucks literally everwhere, but they also attract a ton of different types of people.  The DS player would have great reasons to go to Starbucks, so that s/he could play with any friend with a DS that's near a hotspot and consume large amounts of Frappuccino. The Starbucks denizens would be exposed to the awesomeness that is Nintendo DS, and possible purchase one which would benefit Nintendo, and help set up that cool, hip attitude towards the DS.  This could really help Nintendo's image in the eyes of the consumer which is vitally important with the sexy new PSP on the horizon.  You can see that Nintendo is trying hard to change their image and I really think this would be an awesome idea.

Okay, I sent this in to the DS Mailbag @ IGN.  Let's see what happens!

... wow.  That's crazy, they didn't have any of this VEIL-new fangled stuff when I WAS a kid... lol, 'course, they didn't really have cell phones when I was a kid.... now THAT'S scary.

We SHOULD send this as a letter to PGC and IGN.  Do you guys want to help think of a letter?   Like how we could state this?  I dunno if I'd send them the scenarios I made up because they're kind of a joke, but they get the point across.  So, I think I might need a clearer way to state the same thing. I'll try to think of a good letter, and anyone can post thoughts, too.

I was thinking about how Nintendo could make hotspots for its players and I came up with this idea that I thought I would share.

STARBUCKS (c) becomes offical HotSpot provider of NINTENDO tm.

Could you imagine?  Having an official Nintendo HotSpot at every (or almost all) Starbucks?  It would be great for both companies and users.  And this seems to be the crowd Nintendo is aiming for anyways.

Imagine this.  Nintendo DS players.  "Hmm, I want to play with my friend who lives 500 miles away, so I'll meet him at Starbucks, and play via WiFi."  After hours of playing. "Man!  I am thirsty after all this Metroid Hunter!  Is there anything good to drink around here? (LOL) Oh, of course! Frappuccino! " See?

Starbucks Drinkers:  "Hmm, I want to talk about philosophy with my friends at Starbucks." Goes to Starbucks. "Oh, hey man, cool-looking PDA." "This ain't a PDA."  "It's not?  But, but you're using a stylus on it and stuff." "Yeah, I know I am.  Its a Nintendo DS.  It rocks."  "A what now?" Leans over and watches for a minute.  Is allowed to try playing and plays Metroid Hunters for about 5 minutes.  "HOLY GOD!  This thing is AWESOME!! I AM GETTIN ME ONE O' THESE!" Runs to GameStop/EB.

AS you can see by my plainly laid out scenarios, both types of people would have great reasons to go to Starbucks and drink over priced, albeit good, coffee.  This would rake in the cash for both companies and we (the people) would have fun.
