Having played through most of the initial contender mode, even though there is technically only one NEW boxer, there are really only maybe 5 boxers that remained the same as their namesake from the older games.  Boxers like Aran Ryan and Don Flamenco might as well be completely new boxers considering how differently they play.

Also, never have I lost a bout that I could blame on anyone but myself being unfamiliar with the fight.  Sure, it gets difficult in the world circuit, but the difficulty ramps up beautifully so that people of every skill level will be able to find both accomplishment and challenge with the title.

If you reserved your game at Gamestop, expect this in the near future:

Mario leaves a message

Breaking down art objectively is almost impossible.  Breaking down technical aspects of a game objectively is easy.

I'd almost suggest going to a "Recommended for everyone", "Recommended for fans", and "Not Recommended" review for all games, but even the VC games get criticized and compared for that simple system (lol Kid Icarus).

Maybe the best thing would be listing the pros and cons of a game, and just let the reader decide for him/herself whether it's worth it.

I'll go ahead and guess Kirby Music. (or the Captain Falcon assist trophy)

I know this doesn't agree with the recommendation, but if you do like the old-school Zelda, Neutopia and Neutopia II are great fun.  Gameplay fits in nicely between Zelda for the NES and Link to the Past.  Neutopia II even tries to do things to make it unique from Zelda, like more varied items (as opposed to just the Fire rod and fill in with other Zelda staples), and the dungeons are a lot closer to LTTP than the original Zelda (the further along in the game, the more varied the dungeon...multi-level map, oddly-shaped rooms, varied hazards, etc).

Depends on what you declare the last boss in MP2.

Emperor Ing is definitely the toughest boss, but the 3rd Dark Samus fight is technically the last boss fight, even though it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

Neutopia is straight awesome.  It's practically Zelda 1.5, halfway between Zelda for NES and SNES, and possibly the best TG-16 game available.

I like the term "sandbox" game.  Something you can go to for a few minutes at a time, without any real sort of long-term goal, and just have fun without being concerned about progression.

Looking at Hudson's August release list, the only title they are releasing yet this month is Neutopia.  Seeing as that's certainly one of the best TG-16 games in existence, if not the best, it might not be a bad idea for them to release it next Monday.

Neutopia is the TG-16's answer to Zelda.  It is quite literally a Zelda clone, but, I mean, it's a Zelda clone.

Probably my favorite TG-16 game of all time.

I'm not sure if this is related to the update, but it seems that the Wii internal fan now continues to run while the Wii is in standby mode, which is huge for overheating concerns.

I'm trying to set up a classic Zelda theme for my desktop, and I'm looking for two of the classic MIDI tunes: the "secret found" fanfare (info popup sound), and the "Link dies" fanfare (error sound).  I've been lookin all over, and can't seem to find renditions of these anywhere.  Anywhere I might be able to find those?

Not all these stories have happy endings...

I've now waited a total of about 20 hours in line, and have gotten nothing yet.

Started with waiting 8 hours at a Gamestop that got none on launch day.

2 hours at Walmart the following Friday, 11th in line for 5 systems (yes, 5).  Then waited an additional 2 hours at a nearby Gamestop to be 10th in line for 8 systems.

The next Sunday, got to Target 4 hours early.  They didn't get their shipment in, but didn't mention that to us until they opened.

Every day since then, I've called places, they say they got some in, but by the time I get there they are either gone or the line is too long.

Culminated today, waiting at Wal-mart for 90 minutes, 15th in line for 14 systems, and a lady got there literally a second in front of me (had I moved quicker I'd have made it, although at the time it seemed like no big deal).

So, now, off to Gamestop again, on the hope that maybe they got a few systems in today.

EDIT: Finally, scored one at Gamestop today.  Only had to beat the shipment there by 20 minutes.

I figure they'll either HAVE to go with a cursor (which would dumb down the difficulty significantly), or they'll have to have some crazy recalibration after each level with a "shoot here" sign so you can always recenter your wii remote.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:GameCube Game Storage
« on: May 27, 2004, 11:12:54 AM »
If I had an entire room to store the games in their original cases, I'd just as soon do that.  However, I don't have that luxury moving into a 1-bedroom apt with a wife.  So, I need to condense a game library that consists of roughly 750 games I've accrued over the years.  I put together a neat setup for cartridge games, and a CD book for the CD games works well enough, and even using a baseball-card book for GBA and GBC games works great, but I have yet to find a sleek solution for floppy disks (which I can use a similar setup for cartridges, but it's more difficult to develop a label that I can place on the top to tell what game each is) or GCN games.  I saw a 12-GCN-disc book for sale at several retail locations, but then I'd need 5-6 of them.

I see a hard-top Nyko case that holds 40 at ebgames.com, and custom-made sleeves at some other places (expensive though...20 bucks for 25 soft plastic sleeves?).  I even searched for a mini-disc wallet, which apparently doesn't exist beyond a capacity of 10-15 mini-discs.

One would think with mini-discs and GCN games being the size they are and the relative frailty they are, that someone somewhere would make a wallet catered to them.  Tried the CD book, but the games just don't stay in the sleeves.

Nintendo Gaming / GameCube Game Storage
« on: May 26, 2004, 10:12:05 AM »
I'm looking for a solution for game storage.  I currently own about 50 Cube games, and I hate those hard plastic cases which only hold one game and never close right, and the best case I have (got it for pre-ordering Metroid Prime) only holds about 16 games.

What I'm looking for is either a book that'll hold somewhere around 50 (I wouldn't mind getting 2 books if necessary, but the best I could find was 12, which just is too few), or a sleeve of some type that will fit in a binder so I could fashion my own book.
