Nintendo Gaming / RE:Silicon Knights and Nintendo break up
« on: April 14, 2004, 12:38:45 PM »
I think Nintendo and Microsoft should produce a console together. By all means, Nintendo do it. Sony could never defeat their combined resources even with their near monopoly playstation brand name.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Factor 5 Drops Nintendo!
« on: April 14, 2004, 12:32:09 PM »
Egad. Rare, Silicon Knights and now Factor 5? Sheesh. I love my cube but Nintendo has got to get themselves in gear. If they are not teaming up with Microsoft next gen then they better rethink things and hook up with Microsoft next gen on at least a joint console. Hopefully they can find quality replacements. I have no idea what is going on with their 2nd party relations.

i got this from another forum:

Before reading this, repeat after me: this is a rumor with no basis in anything that I personally know.

That said, somone who works for ATI and posts on Beyond3d.com as well as another senior poster who has connections to people in the know as far as hardware goes are both saying that MS and Nintendo are likely to share the same platform next generation. As to what this means, I dont know. It could simply mean that Nintendo is buying into the XNA initiative which would allow games to, essentially, be co-developed easily for Xbox2, N5 and PC... which would make Sony the od-man out for third party support. This seems like the most likely outcome.

http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewt...r=asc&start=140

However, at another forum I frequent a thread broke out about the rumor, and the following people have chimed in on the subject in various ways.

matt C. cube.ign.com - thinks there is something to it.
japanese poster - says MS has a HUGE ace up their sleeve
staff member for japanese gaming publication - wont say anything because he does not want to upset the people who told him, but says that the gaming-world will be turned on its head.
Edge writer - "Itssaa mee a-master chief" (direct quote).

There are also other members of the "Japanese Crew" at this site (posters from Japan) who generally know whats up, and evidently, this rumor has been flying around Japan like mad.

The best that I can gather is something is being discussed, MS is the one that seems to be pushing the discussions... but no one knows what exactly 'same platform' means... but most of the writers/insiders for gaming companies seem to be pointing to systems that play the same games...

I think the whole thing sounds fishy as hell, and all of the best sources at gaming-age are keeping their lips sealed on this one (most have sources for these things simply because they never let things slip before they are told they can leak the info).

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Miyamoto mentions 2 'undisclosed' titles
« on: March 09, 2004, 04:56:46 PM »
I think its most likely a GC and DS game with "connectivity". Hopefully its from the new studio, is a new franchise and isn't niche. Nintendo really needs a new HOT selling franchise to braoden its appeal. Nintendo fans are already tickled pink and will continue to be very satisfied. Its time Miyamoto guns after the rest of the market like only he can.

I rate GBTG around a 7.5 to an 8. I didn't think it was all that bad. I'm still a big fan of Rare and I'm looking forward to Conker and Kameo on the Xbox.

That 5 dollar card sounds good enough to get me started. I can always grab a more expensive card later.

My local game stores (and retailers like Target and Walmart) have stacks of all three systems. EB and Gamestop even have alot of dreamcasts left.

I happen to like it alot but you don't like console style RTS games and are more into Pc style RTS then you may want to pass on it.

GC, Xbox, and PC right here. I even play dreamcast sometimes. I guess you could call me a "non-sony" gamer.

They might post more if this site was so slow in terms of postings. It should pick up just before E3.

Nintendo Gaming / I just got two gamecube games.
« on: February 19, 2004, 05:20:45 PM »
I traded in:

GTA3 (Xbox)
Magic the Gathering Battlegrounds (Xbox)
Crazy Taxi 3 (Xbox)

I had moral issues with GTA3 so I got rid of it becuase of the sexual content. It was kinda outdated anyways. MGTB I would still recommend to Live gamers (Im offline) and to any offline gamers who can find it for 20 bucks. I just playerd the heck out of it and my brother refused to play it with me so i just traded it. Without Live it grows old after a month of solid play. Without multiplayer I was screwed. CT3 wasn't a bad game but it was good enough to trade in anyways.lol I got an extra 10 bucks from the trade in at EB and only considered the deal worth it (becuase I hate trade in prices) becuase of the two I got in return:

Metroid Prime
Mario Sunshine

Metroid Prime was marked 24.99 in the store but I found one copy marked 19.99 and he used that price in the computer instead. Plus I got an extra 10% off becuase of the sale they was having. He even marked off an extra 5 bucks in the computer for disc comdition on Mario Sunshine even though the disc was fine! Sometimes its good to know the game store guys a little.

My cube still hasn't come in the mail though. Right now Im currently looking at these 20-ish titles:

Pikmin
Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2
Resident Evil (and RE0 )
Billy Hatcher
Eternal Darkness
Smash Brothers
and Maybe Animal Crossing

It all really depends on my mood. Im trying to get games with stlyes (or genres) that I dont normally see on Xbox.

General Chat / Indian Government Encourages Game Development

Can you imagine playing a India-centric game? I can handle japanese-centric weirdness in games but .... LOL I am HIGHLY interested in what they come up with just out of curiousness. "Imaginative" will probably be the best (and perhaps most polite) descriptor for whatever they produce. They could make one strange DDR rip off now couldn't they? lol

Im gonna need a good cheap RF switch for my new cube. Suggestions?

Im hoping to make use of my gamestop card to save money but Im going for whatever is cheapest wherever i can grab it (no online purchases though). I just want to get this Rf adaptor purchase out of the way quick so i can start saving up for games.
Also someone once told me a N64 Rf switch will plug into my cube. Is that true?

General Chat / RE:Is it money or software thats the root to success

Money can cover up for a lack of good software but, ultimately, you have to have both be number 1.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Accessories for the GC?
« on: February 10, 2004, 12:01:12 PM »
Hard drives are great for custom soundtracks. I love playing games while listening to remixes of old school game music. Remixed Zelda, mario, Bubble Bobble, Sonic the hedgehog tunes etc add a nice feel to most games.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:GCN 2 possibly delayed...
« on: February 09, 2004, 01:44:37 PM »
Both statements could be correct. If all three systems launched in 2007 then the Nikkei report AND the NOA PR move/correction would be right. They might be playing with semantics here.

If I am right then we get the best of both worlds.lol

Dang Ill have to get those sometime then. Are they enhanced in anyway? I had both Zelda's for my N64 but sold Majora's Mask. I really want that game back.

Do I have to pay money for that disc once I input the pin numbers? Does that offer end anytime soon?

I dont want to see new consoles until 2007-2008 to be honest. I know alot of people who just got into this gen recently. Not everyone can afford 200-300 dollar consoles no matter how much they like games. I do not want to see gaming become a "haves and the have nots" medium where there is a division between the mainly "early adopting" rich and the "wait until I can afford it" poor.

Ive fought over at TXB to voice concern about a 2005-6 Xbox 2 launch and I am consistent with that sentiment  regarding all consoles. i dont want anyone to release a next gen system until 2007-2008. I cant afford to just keep shelling out this money for games and i certainly cant keep buying a expensive system whenever a console manufacter deems it neccessary for me to do so.  I have to save up stinkin' change and wait for games to drop down to 20-30 bucks most of the time! All i can say to the console makers looking to launch early is "Get Real!".
