TalkBack / RE:Revolution Controller Still Has Secrets

It's an auto pizza order button.  Once clicked four Ninja Turtles hurl from the nearest hole and feed you to death while some kind of hot women tell you how much you're sexy (the dream of a gamer).
No, it must be something else.

I understand about the controllers ports, KnowsNothing.  But basically they (N) are saying that they'll revolutionize the gaming industries.  IMO it can only scare peoples and 3rd party more and more.  But IF it is truly backward compatible THEN I will surely buy one.  The Cube games are sooooo goods.  I'm enjoying RE4 and Echoes right now.  I'm in heaven.

I love the Cube.  I owned every sys since the golden nes era.  Before that I owned a Coleco Vision (and everyone else owned an Atari 2600).  Where did all the Gamers go you ask?  Well, they're still somewhere out there but many of them don't play games anymore (don't have time etc...) or simply they are playing on another console.
I'm 28 and the Cube will probably be my last Nintendo console for a while.  Let me explain:  It's all about Revolution.  I was hoping for a backward compatible system from the big N but now my hopes are destroyed.  The controller will not even features the D-Pad nor A & B buttons.  The 3rd party support is already low for the Cube when games can  be ported to it without much efforts.  Imagine with a system that is not compatible with any others (more populars) on the market.  Why bother?
I was loyal during the N64 dark era and I can understand why peoples where unsure about the Cube.   The Cube is not a failure, it's a total success.  The failure, it seem, is Nintendo, failing to attract more third parties and catch up with our century.  Who's to blame: Nintendo, for volontary isolating themselves from the mass market.
I hope you understand: dunring the 64 days, they told us that they would be more agressive, geared toward the future, that Mario would get attitude etc...  I don't believe it anymore.  Now I'm enjoying my Cube (I even have a spare one boxed just in case) but I'm trully unsure about revolution.   On a side note:  Nintendo should really team whith Apple for their next system.  If they do, I might just grab one anyway...

I really think that poly takes less space than pre-rendered.  If you look at a poly file, it's mostly just coordinate of points, like a text file full of numbers.  As for the textures and sound it is another story.  The textures alone must fill a great deal of the disc and they are copied from one disk to another to be used in the entire games, like the menus.  In a sense, if the game was on one single cd it would take a lot less space.

My best advice is to go to gamefaqs and read the multitude of Faqs written on teh subject.  Or go to fan site.

Fanboy-ish?  I tried very hard not to sound like that but hey, you're maybe right.  I know the game is no stellar but it's very hard for me to hide my joy.  This game is like a dream come true so I think it deserve the score I gave.
I personally hate cel-shaded.  The only two games that put it to good use are Zelda and Viewtifull Joe.  But that's only my taste.

"It's about time!" - Homer Simpson
Yes, it's about time that someone got it right.  Well, quite right actually.
Is it a great game: yes.  Would it be so great if it wasn't for Simpsons: simply put, no.  Good but not great.

This is a game a lot like GTA.  This one will have you drive and walk around Springfield, doing errants for known citizens, following a plot that make very little sense.  You'll get to personified Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge and Apu.  All character sport their trademark clothes, cars and funnies.  Apart from the missions, you will have to collect cards, bust wasp, race, buy clothes and find all gags hidden in the levels in order to acheive a 100% score.

Graphics: 9/10
Graphic wise the game is solid.  The characters look how they should and everything is pretty much well done.  Nothing stellar but everythings fit together in a nice way.  Nice design.  I really like the main menu and the cutscenes.  The cars look great and the town is vibrant, truly alive.  I'm very gratefull they didn't go the cel-shaded way.  The most amazing thing is to discover the town with everyone walking around famous landmarks (they are EVERYWHERE!).  I often find myself driving slowly just to take a look, something I haven't done in a game since a long time.  It really give me a sense of being part of Springfield.  The only downside is some ugly clipping but it's very forgivable.

Sound: 9.5/10
At first, I couln't beleive it and chances are you won't too.  Everything sound like it should.  It is so rare to find a game with so much genuine voice acting and sound effects.  All the characters have their things to say and most of the time, it fit the action perfectly.  The only downside is that you may become sick of hearing them repeat the same thing over and over...  Not that it bothered me.  Apu is the worst in that domain.  The background music is apropriate.

Control: 8/10
Well, the control is pretty good.  Going on foot is not complicated at all.  You might have some trouble kicking your first wasp but that's about it.  When you're driving, it's a little bit different.  It all depend of the car you have.  Some feel clumsy and hard to steer.  Some will go on a spin anytime you hit something.  Some will handle very well but will explode more often.  All in all, everything is well balanced.  The camera can sometime be a real pain...

Story: Hu??? 8/10
The story is important at first as it drive the game.  Then in level 2, you begin to wonder if there's a story in all this.  In level 3, you forgot that this game had a story.  In level 4 & 5 you're wishing that the story will kick in soon.  Then in level 6 & 7, things get's better and missions sometimes do actually make sense.  The story is great, funny but not very important.  But most of all, it's pure Simpsons.  It's really like watching an episode.  If you like it on TV, you'll like it on your Gamecube.

Gameplay: 8/10
Ok, it's fine but sometimes you will get bored as you'll do the same thing over and over again.  At leat you get to drive freely in Springfield.  What upped the score in that part is that the game is harder than it look.  At first it his easy but in the later level, I had road rage and was about to throw my pad out of the window in frustration.  It will take you from 10 to 20 hours to complete the game without cheats and a 100% score.

Multiplayer: 2/10
The bonus game is not much fun.  They could have done something better.  I would have loved to race in split screen.

Overall: (not an average) 9/10
If you like the Simpsons, go ahead and at least rent it.  This game has a lot to offer.  It's like a living museum.  For me this game is a must-have but I know that it's not for everyone.  This is one of my favorite game,  the others: the Resident Evil series.  I own a Xbox with GTA double pack and I must admit that I like The Simpsons: Hit & Run way better.

Leon is perfectly up to the task, Professional 666.  He's even one of the most beleivable characters in the series.
I waited so long for his return.  I'll admit that Barry would be cool too but Billy???  He was just an excuse for the zapping system.  I would be happy to see him as a decapitated NPC.

« on: February 13, 2004, 03:04:02 AM »
I for one would never shell out more than 25$ for a GC harddrive.  I don't see any benefit for such a thing.  Custom soundtrack???  Yeah....  My brother he have a XBox and we seriously think that while cool, the Hard Drive could have been sold as an add-on to lower the XBox price.  This things is not mandatory and he don't use it much except for saving his game.   And I don't think that publisher will jump on the hardrive this late in the GC life.  A hard drive = N64 DD.
I even bet that MS will not include the HD in their next gen system.

General Gaming / Confused about NGage games
« on: February 13, 2004, 02:50:05 AM »
Are the games so bad?
Like on gamespot, they give Red Faction 3.4, which is really bad, a must not buy.
Then on Ngage.ign.com they give that game a 7.1, which mean good but not great.

What explain these difference?

Comon folks!  Game Informer confimed this junk?  Hell, it isn't beleivable.  Do you think they would blow their exclusive coverage just like that, for a kid on a forum???

This make absolutely NO SENSE at all!  I'm not criticizing it...  It is just not beleivable.

Honestly I cannot beleive such a thing.  If it's true then Capcom are the biggest moron of all time for throwing us a game like that.  I, for one, would not buy that thing...  No Umbrella, no zombies, crappy south american villager...  Is it about Turok you're speaking.

Nah....  Nothing of that is true.  Sound too much stupid.

What a brilliant idea.  This would be amazing and would open the door to more RTS.

I would really like a light gun.  But I don't think they'll do one.
As for new gadget, knowing Nintendo, it could be anything that we don't care of.  Forget the hard drive, there is simply no need for one.  Dito for the headset, they are way too late in the online thing to get it done well.  The real question is: will it affect gameplay in any way?  I just hope that the new things they will not be GBA/GC connectivity related.

What I would really like:
Someting made by Nintendo for managing and store save game on my computer.  It's simple yet quite usefull.

Almost forgot: why not make a Voodoo doll in the shape of Mario that attrack third parties?

Ok,that's what I had in mind...  Something new like HFC.  It would even allow to put more emphasis on Wesker.  I'm tired a little bit about Umbrella.  All of their luxury mansion, research lab, train etc...  always explode.  They might be on the very edge of bankrupcy.  And HFC can bring a lot of new characters and great plot twist.
Now their lead researcher's gone, Wesker gone, no more Raccoon city, No more Antartic research base, no more Alexia...   Is there sill an Umbrella?  By the way, where is the action situated in RE4?

No I haven't.  Do Ripley's in this one?  I heard so many times that she refused to take the role back.  Alien VS Predator...  Hummm....  Maybe.  Then it's like what I was saying: take another road.  RE should do the same.  End it with Umbrella and get something fresh like that.

I beleive this title could sell well only because of all the hypes going on.  Look, for most of us this game is already sold.  And even if it get below average rating I will buy it just for the sake of continuity.
And I really hope they will launch the game in the US at the same time as in Japan.  I fear that import will kill the US sale a bit.
(load your gun)
As much as I love the RE series, I would like it to end soon...  Maybe after the RE 5.  You see, I don't want it to become like Final Fantasy (that series left a bad taste in my mouth).  While I was a FF freak in the snes era, I can't care less about CC.    Or if it does not end soon, it must at least take another direction and in this case, there are chances (50/50) that Capcom fall flat on their face (ala DMC II).
For comparison sake: I'm really happy that Resurection is the last Alien.  Even if it is better on the techno side, this movie don't really stand well compared to the previous one.  See my point?  Better techno != better games.
They should use RE 4 to prepare us for RE 5.  Use it to tie half of the loose ends and finish a lot of character's story by either make them die, retire or settle for good with Umbrella.  Then in the RE 5, just tie all the remaining loose ends in a 5 cd saga (5 characters), give us a really good ending with lots of extra (like a multimedia series encyclopedia) and finish it for good.  ( I beleive that RE5 would be an awesome launch game for the N5 :-) ).

After... well, they can always start from scratch a new story with others characters, go online or hell, even remake BIO 2 and 3.
Anyone think that the series must come to an end before fading away?
