I'm really stoked for this game, especially because of the battle system, which, as many of you may remember from the Baten Kaitos thread, is very important to me. IGN has said it's very similar to Grandia's in that's it's partially real time and partially turn based, and you have characters running all across the screen. In my opinion, the Grandia series has the best battle system in an RPG to date and any RPG that emulates that is worth a shot for me.

I think you have it all wrong... If this one plays anything like the other Tales games, it's NOTHING like Grandia. All the other Tales games have a battle system which is more like a 2D fighting game. That's not a bad thing at all; I think it's one of the most entertaining battle systems ever.

Guys, if you're hyped about this and haven't played the others, go get them! Tales of Destiny 1 and 2 on the Playstation! I also own Tales of Phantasia on the PS, but it was only in Japanese...

Hedgehog

They actually already have a Sonic kart racing game on the Game Gear which is playable in Sonic Adventure DX on the GC.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Why Nintendo?

About Kirby's Air Ride, I heard from a gamer who I respect immensly, someone who loves challenging skill based games, that the game is really good. Not that anyone here would care about some guy who I know, but let me put it this way: I wasn't even mildly interested in the game, and now I am very interested. When a skilled gamer who you respect says good things about a game, it opens your eyes...

So yeah, too many games to buy. The gaming industry loves to take all my money. It's funny, too, because 99% of new games I have NO interest in, but when they release 10 games a week, 1% still translates into a ton!

I actually have a very good shot at winning this contest, but only if Mario wins. I hope you guys all vote for him! I want the $300 prize.

Well I don't think the DVD cases take up that much more space. They're definitely thinner on the spine. Those cases are also a lot sturdier. The only thing is that it will be weird to have half a Game Boy collection in one kind of box and half in another.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Why is GCN considered to be a failure?
« on: August 09, 2003, 07:59:03 PM »
As far as I know, the Gamecube is NOT a financial failure at all. I'd like to see some statistics to back up that claim. Nintendo is the only company who was at any point actually making money per system sold. The only reason they aren't now is because of the free game bundles. The GC is consdiered a failure in terms of other companies, I think. Nintendo themselves make a buttload of money off their first party titles. Other publishers haven't done so well on the system. I don't see that as a GC specific problem, though, or even a fault of Nintendo. A lot of companies release a lot of bad games. People don't have faith in random games. You won't see a casual gamer who owns a GC going out and getting excited over Vietiful Joe. They've played too many Smashing Drive-esque crapfest games to warrant giving just anything a chance. I think the Xbox has a similar problem, it's just that MS is super rich and doesn't care about money. The PS2 gets by great just because of sheer numbers of people who own it, but as most of us probably agree, 75% of the games released on it are not worth owning. Just because it's successful doesn't mean it's good. As far as good games go, all systems are about equal I'd say.

Well, anyway, I don't believe Nintendo are having any trouble making money right now.

General Chat / Anyone keeping an eye on this Ganondorf vs Magus thing?

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Wario World Njah Njah Njah Njaaaaah Njaaaaaah
« on: August 03, 2003, 03:25:48 PM »
I think this is one of the best designed platformers in a long long time. It's short because they didn't give you any garbage. Most platformers have you collecting 200000 things. Wario World isn't like that at all. It's all about solving puzzles and finding new paths. There's no monotonous collecting. It's still a little too short, but I would take a game that stay good throughout like Wario World over a game that gets super boring like DK64. I recommend this game to anyone if they game find it for under $50

You can get it off of www.gameplay.com if you can't find it on eBay. That's the only place I've found the PAL release online recently.
