Nintendo Gaming / Skylanders Trap Team Wii U - Help Needed: Element Door Issues

Ok.... my kids get stuck at the doorways when it requires a certain element player, they have changed players so one of the elements match or they both match.... but either way it does not activate that door - would like some help
