Nintendo Gaming / Metroid Prime 2 footage from E3!

Yeah, not funny at all. Boy, if they were to do that, I would absolutely scream bloody murder. Although, actually, it would suit me just fine because I just don't like the thought of multiplayer Metroid. What are they going to do? Pit you against multiple Samus'? Okay, lets be exactly like Halo. Metroid is perfect as it is. Prime is among, maybe even at the top of my favorite games list, all-time.

I bet we'll need our trusty GBA's for multiplayer. Awe, that'll be great.

The ship date is May 19th I believe. So just right around the corner. I'm hookin' it up, no doubt!

It has Viewtiful Joe, Billy Hatcher, Splinter Cell, Soul Calibur 2, andSonic Adventure DX that are playable. It has videos of other games on it, I can't remember which ones. It also lets to download Dr. Mario to your GBA. Of course, you lose it when you power down the GBA and will have to DL it again. Nevertheless, cool stuff!

General Gaming / Mediocrity-fest 2003: AKA Sequel mania OR E3 2003
« on: May 16, 2003, 08:42:11 AM »
I'm mostly with you guys on this. I didn't go to E3 either, but I have so far been very unimpressed.

Xbox:

Nothing from the Xbox impressed me. However, I'm not an first person fan (Metroid Prime is the only exception) and I tend to not like PC games, so the Xbox is really bogus in my opinion. Rare is also a big disappointment.

Playstation 2:

I thought MGS 3 and Gran Turismo 4 looked awesome. This MGS game is exactly what I wanted, so far at least. I love all of the new gameplay elements that are being brought to the table. The 12 minute trailer was not the best. But I think at next year's E3 Kojima will pull out the big cinematic trailer. I thought the leaked trailer was much more impressive. I played through all the races on GT3 and GT4 looks to improve on almost every front. I'm also interested in Jak II and the new Ratchet & Clank games. Also SOCOM II should be nice. The PSP deal was interesting, I suppose.

Nintendo:

I didn't really care what Xbox brought to the table. I kind of figured not a lot would interest my gaming tastes. So no let down there. Sony basically did what I expected, all be it lackluster overall. But Nintendo so far has really been the most disappointing and it's strange too because they have the most games I'm interested in. The problem is: 1) They told us all of their titles before hand. 2.) The GBA --> GC Connectivity feature is absolutely killing me. It is agonizing. 3.) They didn't bring any show stoppers with them. 4.) Half or more of the games I was interested in before E3 started, have either made me more nervous or completely not want them all together after seeing either a.) The trailers, b.) the countless hands-on impressions I've seen, or c.) both a and b.

In the end though, it is all about the games on your wish list. And so far, after viewing countless videos and going through a ton of hands-on impressions, I have weeded out a lot of games. This is the list of games (that were at the show) I really have my eye on and have a good chance of adding to my collection.

GameCube:

F-Zero GX
Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Metroid Prime 2
Sonic Heroes
Soul Caliber II
Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Viewtiful Joe

Playstation 2:

Gran Turismo 4
Jak II
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Ratchet: Going Commando
SOCOM 2

GBA:

Metroid: Zero Mission
Super Mario Advance 4

As you can see, there are quite a few games that I am interested in. There are also a few others that I'll watch carefully, but so far are not doing it for me.

Nintendo Gaming / Summer Drought.
« on: May 14, 2003, 03:36:01 PM »
It usually always a dry time during the summer. That's just how it is. If your a big whig at a company, why release a game during the summer when in just a few months you can give it that holiday treatment? We do get Toadstool Tour in July I believe. But after reading the impressions, it looks like some more work needs to be done. F-Zero is in August ins't it? That's a must buy.

General Gaming / most anticipated games from E3
« on: May 14, 2003, 02:10:40 PM »
Hmm...Most anticipated. That's a toughy. Before E3 started, Nintendo had a lot of games that I wanted. But after reading a ton of hands-on from E3, I'm starting to get nervous about a lot of games. Star Fox anyone? Ugh, I am so dissapointed with it so far. Hopefully Namco can fix the problems with it. I would have to say my list is like this for my three platforms...so far...

Gamecube

F-Zero GX
Killer 7 (Hope it turns out good)
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (A few details I'm upset with, hope they can fix them)
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Metroid Prime 2 (No brainer)
Pikmin 2 (Got my eye on it)
Sonic Heroes
Soul Calibur II
Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel  Strike
Super Monkey Ball 3: Banana Crazy
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

GBA

Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising
Metroid: Zero Mission
Super Mario Advance 4

PS2

Castlevania (Hope it turns out good)
Gran Turismo 4
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (In line, day one)
ICO II
Jak II
Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
SOCOM 2

General Gaming / Miyamoto's Next Game, will it be at the show?

Well, the inference I made about Geist and Fear was from IGN...

I know one of the big sites said Factor 5 had a second exlusive, supposedly on the show floor. We'll see about that, Thornado? Pilotwings? Something else? Interesting. Hopefully Mario 128 will be there! Mushroom Kingdom please! And would it be too hard to bring back real power ups?

Nintendo Gaming / Geist: Coolest game style ever!

This game is actualy the title "Fear" that was mentioned lately. This according to IGN. I wonder what happened to "Ground Zero" that was mentioned in the same article as "Fear"?

I cannot remember which site I read this on, it was either IGN, Gamespot, or Gaming-Age (pretty sure it was GS though), but Raiden is said not to be in this game at all. I believe the reporter was quoting Kojima himself. Don't quote me on the latter though.  It is appearing that the people who speculated on the "Vietnam" theme may just be right. In the trailer the number 1960 pops up. Gaming sites are believing this game to be a prequal. Everyone wants to do a prequal now-a-days.

Turns out that the new game Giest is actually the game "Fear" that was mentioned on several sites lately. This according to IGN in there article on Nintendo's press conference.

Stimutacs Addict, I'm in your boat. I was pretty bored with Nintendo's offerings, true, I want many of the titles, but nothing really dropped my jaw and nothing was new to me. I figured we'd at least see Mario 128 or something else.

I'm clueless on that one. I thought they would show it in the press conference today. Supposedly the game has been in production since well before Mario Sunshine. The press conference was a big dull dud in my opinion. There was not a single thing new to me except Giest, but that (according to IGN) is actually the game "Fear" that was mentioned on a few web sites recently.

Thanks very much for your replies

Enjoy the Show!

The "strange" game that IGN first mentioned, thus resulting in everyone else mentioning, was finally revealed by IGN a couple of days ago (or was it yesterday?). It's an intriguing Pac-Man game if you can believe that. There is a thread about it in the "Gamecube" section of this forum.

There are also rumors of two new games coming out of Nintendo, "Fear" and "Ground Zero" which I'm sure have threads in the Gamecube section somewhere.

Nintendo Gaming / Metroid Zero Mission

I wonder if "Zero Mission" is hinting at a prequal? If so, I'm not so sure I like that. I like how the Metroid series started and where it has gone. I don't want to change the beginning.

It was reported in several places that these games would not appear at E3 because the latest list from Capcom did not list them. However...

Resident Evil 4: http://cube.ign.com/articles/402/402013p1.html

Killer 7: http://cube.ign.com/articles/402/402016p1.html

hehe, everyone is in a "prequal" sort of mood I guess. So should we be expecting a prequal with this new Metroid? And as others pointed out, this is the GBA game, not Retro's work.

General Gaming / "Next" On CNN
« on: May 11, 2003, 01:45:49 PM »
I hope noone wasted thier time watching  the program! Man, the segment was total booty. It was the last 8-10 minutes of the show and it was garbage. They didn't have a clue what they were talking about. They first started talking about the stupid Mobile games for Cell Phones and PDA's, all the while showing clips of Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando (while never even talking about R&C). Then they showed Madden 2004, Sims 2, and Mario Kart. The woman hosting was introing Mario Kart like it was an all new Super Mario type of game. She was trippin'. Then she went retro and showed a video clip of Mario Brothers 3 and the dude who was supposed to be knowledgable (I guess  ) Said, "I think that's Mario 64. It was so garbage. They didn't show or say anything that we didn't know. Of course, the host acted as if games were for kids. And when they were talking about mobile games for the cell and stuff, she was like, "these are games for adults." ha, yeah, Pac Man!

For all my US people...hehe

Today, Sunday May 11, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. Central Standard Time the program Next on CNN will have a preview of E3. It won't be for the entire hour, just one segment. The show appears to be divided amongst three topics. So hopefully it'll last at least fifteen minutes or so.

Note: This is CNN not CNN Headline News.

It's fake though. It's either taken from the computer version of MGS or someone did a little photoshop job. The hands strike me as odd.

I loved the trailer!!! The music especially. It is real, gamers.com first and now IGN.com are saying that what we saw, is it. Some idiot leaked it. IGN says it looks to be shorter than what may be shown at E3. That's fine with me, I'm ready to see more. However, I wouldn't get too excited at the jungle aspect. We all know from MGS2 that Mr. Kojima can get carried away, what if this were just a flashback to Zanzibarland or whatever, from way back? The game could actually be taking place on Saturn for all we know. But, lets hope for the jungle look!

By the way, if anyone hasn't seen the video, I posted it in the "Other Systems" forum.

General Gaming / Snake Eater???
« on: May 09, 2003, 01:41:26 PM »
Hey guys, I haven't even introduced myself yet, but for my first post, I think this is good stuff.

First of all, this seams real, but seems fake at the same time. This is a small clip (hard to see one at that) of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. What kind of subtitle is that? How come Konami would release such a clip before E3? How come this is on such a web site and not on IGN or Gamespot yet? Anyhow...provided it is true (by the looks of it, it seems so), then this seems like a show stopper that needed to be kept under tight wraps until official E3 unvieling. Nevertheless, I am highly intrigued by this video! It looks great and I love how the clip suggests much more outdoor play. Gotta love that. Check the news section for 5/9/03 at the link below for the link to the movie.

Edit: I guess some idiot just leaked the video. Obiovus, I suppose...
