Nintendo Gaming / I would like a moment of silence for my cube :(
« on: April 28, 2003, 04:03:28 PM »
People still blow on their cartridges?  In this day and age?  With such high tech devices like the "cotton swab" and fancy new cleaning solutions like "Windex" or "rubbing alcohol"?  Heh...

In any case, that sucks about your GCN.  Haven't heard about any defects or anything with the system, but then again, I don't keep up-to-date with much of anything these days.  Another Gamecube price drop would be cool, though.

I would play some of them, if they were cheap as in $20 at most.  Otherwise, I'll either stick to ye olden "lesser" ports on my other consoles or try to find an arcade that still has those games, play them a while, then "haggle" with the arcade owner me possibly purchasing that Galaga machine next to the DDR machine for a decent $100 even.  You'll crack eventually, sucker!  Nobody plays Galaga but me, anyways!

Nintendo Gaming / Worst GC game ending
« on: April 09, 2003, 09:41:03 PM »
I've finished a lot of NES games over the years, so my opinions on how well an ending turns out is pretty poor.  When I beat The Wind Waker, I expected Zelda to *ORIGINAL LEGEND OF ZELDA ENDING SPOILER AHEAD* say thank you and then I get thrown into a second quest instantly, with a remixed overworld and more of that old man's incoherent ramblings about how "DODONGO DISLIKES SMOKE."  So, I don't really expect much from beating a game besides self-gratification.

Nintendo Gaming / Resurrect Double Dragon

I have enough classic beat-em-up games to last me a lifetime, but I'm not against a new game in the genre if it's either innovative enough or at least tons of fun like the old classics.  I'm eagerly awaiting the release of Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick (Evil Dead fan), which is a beat-em-up game, and even though it's not going to be on the GCN and even though it's not very innovative or original in concept, that shouldn't detract from it being a potentially fun game (plus, it's "alleged" MSRP is $20 U.S., so I'm not complaining).  Then again, I'm not overly picky about games and only care if it's fun or not.

Well, for most classic console collectors, 60 is a pretty small number for games.  I myself have 160 NES games, which is considered small to more hardcore NES collectors.  Then again, older games are by default cheaper, so unless somebody doesn't consider an old Atari 2600 or Colecovision game an "actual game" and more a "mini-game," then owning a lot of games for one console isn't much a deal.  For X-Box games, though, at this current time, yes, it is an insane amount.  I think it all depends on the kind of "deals" you can get with certain games.  Most of my games are used and were "haggled" to death.

I usually wait until an entire generation of console gaming has passed before I jump all over a system, usually just investing a little in one specific console for that generation, mostly Nintendo consoles.  I waited until the 16-bit era died before I jumped all over the Genesis, and the whole 32/64-bit thing before I got a PSX and a Sega Saturn.  I'd like to get an X-Box soon (preferably used and cheap), but for now, I'm satisfied enough with my PS2 and GCN.  I hate to get shut out of any game, however.

KatDaddy, you already have most of the games I'd have recommended to you, but for those you don't, I recommend Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee and Super Smash Bros. Melee, just because they're pretty good multiplayer games, with an emphasis on "good" for Godzilla and more an "awesome" for SSB:M.  Oh, and welcome aboard this place, even though I myself am pretty new to posting in these forums.

Nintendo Gaming / Metroid Prime/Fusion Connectivity
« on: April 06, 2003, 05:19:44 PM »
No, you don't have to have it connected as soon as you beat the game, but you do need to beat them.  All you have to do is have the GBA with Metroid Fusion connected to the GCN and have it on.  On the main menu of Metroid Prime, there's the option at the bottom about the connectivity feature.  Just press A on that and that should be it.  You get the bonuses depending on which games you've beaten.  That's all.  Hope that helps.

I know I'm not "Dafunkk," but I know where he did get the whole NES prying of the connections thing from, or I'm guessing he did get it from this place:

ClassicGaming.com - Repairing Your NES

I keep routine maintenance on my NES, and it works perfectly after fourteen years.  I recently did use that article's handy tip, and as long as you don't use too much force on the connections, you should be fine.  I've heard of some guys overdoing it and wrecking their NES altogether.  Then again, this ain't an NES message board, so...

I own the GBA and GC and that little link dealie.  With games like Metroid Prime, although NES Metroid is a nice bonus, it should've been unlockable without the GBA.  However, with games like The Wind Waker, the Tingle Tuner thing was made to be done with a seperate screen, and while it made some areas easier to get through, it wasn't necessary, and I could've easy gone through the game without it at all.  I only used it on one dungeon, and that was it.  Point being, a window of possibilities is open with the linking option, but save a few games, at this point in time, it's gimmicky and not worth the money.  However, I'd like to see some better uses with the link option besides those already presented.

Like it's been said many a time, it's just extras, and nothing more.
