Hey, thanks! A TV fund may not be necessary, though. I might just rock the credit card - soon.

Ah, nurts, I just realized I should've started this thread in general discussion. Control+Z, control+Z!

Last post was... June 26, 2009, 12:11:28 pm. Yikes.

Well, I got a new job back at the end of June, and it's kinda consumed my life. On top of that, my roommate / good friend moved away and took her TV with her. So, aside from an hour or two of GC DK Jungle Beat + bongos weeks ago (which I found at a flea market and have enjoyed quite a bit), I haven't even been able to play my Wii. No Conduit. No Little King's Story. No Let's Tap.

I just realized I didn't get to participate in the discussion of Ninja Spirit, either! Man, I am a terrible poaster .

Anyway, I'm not going to pretend that I'm some legacy poster around here - or much of a significant poster in general, really - but for anyone who noticed or cared (anyone?), I didn't disappear because I wanted to, and I'm going to continue being a ghost on these forums not out of desire. I've just been real busy.

One of these days, I'll be back. I just don't know when yet...

Some level concepts I'd like to see:

* Planets that move.

What could be really neat is if there's a galaxy modeled after our own - but in relatively miniature form. All of the planets to traverse are actively orbiting around a large sun. As Mario gets to planets closer to the sun, accurate jumping becomes more of a necessity in order to avoid getting sucked into the fiery hot-hot gas-ball.

I never thought of this before, but some crazy new space-age slide levels/challenges could be pretty wicked.

Ooh, another idea: What if on these new slide levels, you had to guide Mario toward nearby planets so you could take advantage of their gravitational pull for sharp turns? It would be kinda like some of the maneuvering in Orbital.

Damn, no Blockbuster or Game Crazy.  Are there any other major companies that rent I'm forgetting (besides Gamefly)?

Hollywood Video is one. Is Movie Gallery still an active, nation-wide chain?

I still can't decide. I'm leaning towards Ninja Spirit because I was a big supporter of it last time.

Once you go ninja, you never go back.

Besides the gold cart of OOT, when was the last time Nintendo made a special edition of anything?

Does the bonus OoT/Master Quest disk that came with Wind Waker count?

Majora did the same gold pre-order thing, and that box had a cool holo front. I think I saved that one when my parents convinced me to throw them all out.

Wasn't every Majora cart like that, making it a very similar "special edition" to this Metroid one? Or was the hologram label only on some of those gold carts (I believe they were all gold carts for MM)?

They couldn't just mirror Link instead of mirroring the entire game?

That's what I originally hoped they were going to do in TP, but that certainly didn't happen. I guess there were too many complex interactions between Link and the gameworld to make a mirror-Link easy enough to implement. There were also plenty of cutscenes that showed (and sometimes counted on) Link having a particular hand as dominant. Those would've had to have been adjusted and retooled as well. So, mirroring the whole game was a much easier - though less satisfying, personally - alternative.

I didn't find the 120 star setup in Galaxy boring, but I was aware that it's the same kind of structure we've had for all of the 3-D Mario games so far. I don't have a reasonable alternative in mind (maybe Mop_it_up is right that the 120-star setup is the best/only way to handle 3-D Mario). But if the Tokyo team thought of an interesting and worthwhile new structure for Galaxy 2, I'd be even more excited to play.

So, this game has become a first person brawler with gunplay and light RPG elements?

I can dig it.

I hate when interviewers forget the all important question, is Link going to be left handed or what? with the motion + thing is an actually important question for the gameplay experience of left handed people, which was actually iirrelevant for the lazy and dumb mirroring of TP. Its funny Aonuma and Miyamoto thinking that was an awesome idea for a game without actual motion, only waggle.

If you look at the concept art again, you'll see that Link has the shield in his left hand, which leaves his right hand open for his girl-sword.

But like PartBear said, at least the game world won't have to be mirrored, which in TP left me with a persistent, slightly unsettled feeling about the game's presentation.

I'm wondering about another 120 stars, too. I'm sure the game is going to be great either way, but are the developers really going to ask us to get another 120 (or 242) stars? Isn't there some other way to focus the player's purpose, at least for a change of pace?

Having a choice of playable character from the start would be pretty cool, too.

I 100% agree with your description / evaluation. (I would add that the music is great.)

About the hearts: I believe in the original version, you could only lose whole hearts as opposed to half-hearts. This made some of the later boss battles more challenging. If memory serves, Klonoa 2 introduced half-heart damage for teh kiddiez.
Watched a Boobtube video of the PSX version, and no, the hearts just shrink. Unless there was a hard difficulty mode in the PSX version...

No, I'm just wrong / was worse at videogames back when Klonoa first came out.

Maybe hard mode is the secret unlockable for finding all of the medallions? Do we have any idea what the reward for that is?

I was working on finding that out, but one of those devious challenges was too much for me and I kinda stopped playing the game at all. I've got to go back and try again...

It's a good thing carts are so durable, then.

Grantimus, good call on the Irish Red. And don't worry about learning the ropes. I'm sure you'll be fine if you keep posting in a responsible manner. Consistency helps, too (which is something I've had trouble with due to work and hobbies/social excursions).

I'm jumping on the cart wagon, too. In addition to the benefits y'all have pointed out, there are environmental ones. The lack of moving parts for optical media would make the console more energy efficient. And since the carts would likely be smaller than optical discs, manufacturers would need less plastic to make the carts and their cases.

Really, other than the worry of wear and tear that Mop_it_up pointed out, I don't see any disadvantage to solid state anymore. Even the fact that they're kinda "retro" (for a home console) could become a marketing advantage.

I'd be pretty impressed if a new Zelda game thoroughly out-did OoT-style control. It seems possible, though.

Uhm... did anyone else see this:

New Super Mario Wii to include "demo play" option

According to the article, the help system shown in that patent with "the legend of OO" monikier, will make its debut with NSMBW. Or something similar to it i suppose..

cool?

It's a neat idea that will certainly make the game more accessible. I can't say I'd let myself use it, though, on account of feeling dirty for doing so.
