Nintendo Gaming / RE:More Controller Info FROM REGGIE in NYC

Ok, before I say anything else, I wasn't there to hear this. I heard it secondhand through two friends who were at Nintendo World today (Friday, April 28th).

Apparently, a kid asked Reggie about how the controller will be used to play Mario Kart, specifically how drifting will work.

The response from Reggie was that (the way my friend described it) you'll be able to dock the controller into a separate unit, and from there, tilting will work for drifting. My friend went on to speculate that this MAY be similar to the docking-bay controller mockup done by IGN awhile ago (back when the controller was first shown).

I have many fond memories on the SNES as a youth of tilting the controller on turns in an effort to turn more. Finally, my childhood dream shall come true.

is this a review with the Navy DS lite? I'm wondering if the white is off-color.

It's like Electroplankton! You collect different Electroplankton/elebits!

But really... what sort of game is this?

I agree. There's a certain limit to perfection that was acheived with SMB3. No Mario game can ever surpass it. If only they released a Mario game for the SNES.

While both screens are smaller than the PSP’s single display, they can be used in tandem to provide varying information, such as a map on one and your playable character on the other. Additionally, the bottom screen on the DS is touch-sensitive, so in addition to being a display device, it can be an interface. The included stylus pen allows for a great deal of variety in approach to game design and control

no mention at all about the beautiful bright new screens? Better viewing angle? None? Alrighty!
Yeah, I just got brain age two days ago and its kind of annoying to see the game differently with both eyes (one eye is seeing one screen from a brighter angle, and vice verca). Too bad it'll be a month or so until it comes out.

Nintendo Gaming / Grade the Nintendo WiFi Website
« on: April 13, 2006, 05:30:51 PM »
So far, I think it's been very inconsistent and unprofessional at times. Often, it doesn't even load correctly. It even has nontechnical errors on it. http://www.nintendowifi.com/consumerservice/showTopic.do?topicId=GTS_TDS&catId=Game_Specific#GTS_TDS_stats.
So each week we can race in Worldwide mode for the chance to go up against a Nintendo celebrity -- such as NOA Andy. Nintendo will tape the race and post a clip! But wait! Race each other? In Tetris? WOW I thought it was talking about Mario Kart, but now that they're talking about Tetris, whoo! I'm gonna powerslide some L blocks on the way to the finish line!

But really, how come the stats are so lacking for Tetris DS? It's not like Mario Kart where it's the first WiFi game from Nintendo. It's a really simple game so how come they couldn't moniter a few more stats. Or at least make a leadersboard that makes sense. My record in Tetris is in the 7000's yet I can't find myself on the leader boards.

I give the Nintendo Wi-Fi Website a C-, and that's mostly due to Metroid. Except even sometimes in that the friends hub doesn't load correctly. I'm being really nitpicky, but I think all people should be. If someone responds with a "Well, its free, what do you expect" well, then I'd rather have the option to pay. But I digress, so what do you think of the site and what could be improved on it?

I wish rogue squadron was coming out for Revolution. Imagine, going through hoth (AGAIN), BUT, this time you can shoot your harpoon torpedo with super accuracy!

But really, it is nice to see the titles trickling out, and actually having a pretty varied launch lineup for once. N64, GC, GBA, and NDS had terrible launch lineups. Or had a good title, but lack of titles afterward. I don't think we'll be seeing twenty launch titles, but even half that is a really good amount of games for launch.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo WiFi Account

For some reason, nintendowifi won't recognize my Tetris DS. Or something like that. It knows I have MPH, MKDS, etc., but it won't detect my Tetris DS. I wanna see my rank! Does anybody else have this problem or know how to fix it?

EDIT: Ok wow, all of a sudden it picks it up. After I've had it for almost a month. And five minutes after I complain about it.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: WiFi Multiplayer
« on: April 08, 2006, 10:55:30 AM »
yeah man. The algorithms.

But anyways... how come it says Global WiFi Gaming Service Fully Functional? They should stick an almost. I get disconnected a lot while searching for games. And sometimes when trying to connect to a friend. Its really stable once a game gets started though, so I'll give them that. But it still takes too long for games to get started. I wish that you could make a cut off so at least when you've found one guy, you can just start. Like if both players just wanted to start as quickly as they could without searching for more, they could press start or something. And have a thing that notifies the other player if that happens. Oh well.

Nintendo's Wifi Connection hasn't really been so hot so far. I've only played 4 players once with mario kart, and never 4 with MP Hunters. Why is it so? Has anybody emailed Nintendo about this and gotten a response? I just want more than 1 on 1 battles in Metroid.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: New DS 3 patent
« on: March 08, 2006, 05:07:34 PM »
the D-pad and buttons are on a different segment of the system. Removable parts perhaps? Or movable I should say. Like you fold them over. Either way, I don't think this will come to fruition anytime soon. I'm not realy 100% sure about patents, but it also may be a patent to prevent another company from copying Nintendo by adding the extra functionality of two touch points. Once again, I'm just speculating without a great deal of patent knowledge.

Nintendo Gaming / NEW Super Mario Bros. Title?
« on: March 07, 2006, 02:17:59 PM »
On IGN they have a link that shows the boxart for "NEW Super Mario Bros."
http://media.ds.ign.com/media/682/682879/img_3436174.html

It still has the NEW title attached to it. Is this really the final name? And I don't know about you, but I'm not feeling too excited over the boxart.
The name is most likely temporary so what do you all think that the final name will be? They probably won't do Super Mario DS because of Super Mario 64 DS. I think the best name would be Super Mario World 3. So 2D Mario platformers will keep a theme or something. I hope at the very least that they don't attach the DS part as Double Siblings or something. At least its not the mess that Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 is. Maybe they could make it Super Mario Bros. 4?

I was saying more like you pre-record your own way of saying it like in Nintendogs. Like, what if Meteos had items in the game where u stored them (I'm not saying whether or not this would be a good gameplay idea, just an example). It would be hard to use the desired item while moving things with the stylus. So its used for simple things that make things quicker.

Nintendo Gaming / When will it blow over?
« on: February 22, 2006, 01:49:41 PM »
When do you think that the DS mic will be used for something other than being blown into? When will there finally be a game where you can choose things without going to menus and simply say that thing. Like in an RPG. Or in a Mech game you could say, MISSILE 3! It was neat at the beginning but its become really trite.

Eight games have been released over the 1.2 years the DS has been out that has used the microphone for blowing. Will there be more added to this list? I'm hoping for more uses of the mic to make certain tasks easier. Like animal crossing couldve used it to switch equipment items maybe. They could let people use their own voice like in Nintendogs so their wouldn't have to be complicated voice recognition software. I'm not against blowing entirely, but if devs want to use the unique features of the DS just to use them, then they shouldn't do the blowing. EXPERIMENT!

Anybody have ideas for the future of mic use?

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Screen Comparison: SP, DS, Micro

"The DS Lite supposedly has micro like screens."
You don't mean clarity right? Because the screen is essentially the same except brighter and hopefully a bigger viewing angle. The colors will be micro like if thats what you meant, because the brightness will make the colors more vibrant.

I was looking at the picture again, and the top part of the DS Lite is kinda shiny...
So do y'all think that its going to be Ipod shiny as well? Or is that just for the picture and the regular one is just like the regular white DS. No gloss (or whatever its called). It would be a lot better for the paint because the silver edges on my DS are fading out revealing the dull white underneath.
I like how they've gotten rid of how the screen looks like its made out of different parts instead of looking like one unit (the black around the normal DS screen).

Another thing...
Is nintendo going to cycle all the old DS systems out or keep selling them? It's a lot cheaper to produce these newer ones probably, and yeah...

« on: January 26, 2006, 07:49:14 AM »
I'm kind of mad that the people who bought the first one got screwed. But oh well. They shouldn't really sell both versions at the same time though. Since this new one is so similar. It IS a lot better if you pay attention to the button layout. The buttons being too close to the edge is solved by placing the buttons HIGHER. The DS buttons are too low.
