Yeah, I thought Sonic CD would be the game included in Sonic DX.  We may see that in Sonic Adventure 3 now.  Who knows?  Maybe that rumor about a 3D update of Sonic 3 is actually a 3D update of Sonic CD!

I doubt it.  Trust me, digital audio wouldn't help at all with the GBA's 8-bit output.  I doubt you could call this "monopoly" tactics, since they DO offer an adapter for standard headphones at a CHEAPER price!

The Ultimate Gamers Expo (UGE) has named Bernard Stolar, Rob Dyer and Don Vaughn to its advisory board. Stolar and Dyer are widely recognized game industry luminaries and will play an integral role in UGE’s success. Vaughn’s vast experience in the convention and conference sphere adds valuable knowledge to the physical launch of the Expo itself in its first year. UGE will offer the general public the opportunity to “test drive” some of the latest pre-launch game titles and will make its debut August 15-17 in the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center.

“We’re thrilled that Bernie Stolar, Rob Dyer and Don Vaughn have joined our advisory board,” said Wayne Pepper, Co-Founder of the UGE. “Their insights into the gaming industry and the evolving consumer body are enormous assets as we ramp up to launch the first Ultimate Gamers Expo.”

In addition, Vaughn's previous experience includes three years as Vice President of the Astrodomain Corporation, responsible for all conventions and trade show events in the Astrohall and Astrodome and 15 years of involvement with the Convention Liaison Council, the umbrella organization of the convention/trade show industry.

Attendees of UGE will have a chance to buy games, equipment and gear at the event.  In turn, exhibitors will be able to conduct market research and consumer testing on their most desirable target demographic – young, passionate game enthusiasts as well as families with multigenerational players.  Projected attendance is 100,000 + participants of both genders ranging from 12-34 years old.  Admission to the festival is $20 for adults and $10 for anyone under the age of 17.

At its launch in Los Angeles, UGE will host a game design workshop that provides an opportunity for aspiring young designers to be taught by the best in the business.  In addition, a “Mobile Gaming Pavilion” will draw attention to the newest downloadable games for cellular phones and other devices.  In order to create a complete festival atmosphere, the company will provide live entertainment – including extreme sports demonstrations, martial arts combatants and musical talent, celebrities and athletes.

TalkBack / Batman: Dark Tomorrow Released

The long-awaited Batman game from Kemco ships to stores!

THE DARK KNIGHT HAS ARRIVED

Kemco Ships Batman: Dark Tomorrow To Retail Outlets Nationwide

Seattle – March 18, 2003 –
Kemco U.S.A. INC. has shipped the highly anticipated Batman: Dark Tomorrow for the Xbox videogame system from Microsoft and Nintendo GameCube to retail outlets nationwide.  Developed internally by Kemco, Batman: Dark Tomorrow is rated T (Teen) and has an SRP of $49.99.

Batman: Dark Tomorrow is the first modern Batman videogame to date that is based on the DC Comics comic book license, and not on the feature films or animated television series.  Batman comic book writer, Scott Peterson, and writer Kenji Terada, known for his work on the Final Fantasy videogame franchise, created the original storyline for the game.  Kemco has stayed loyal to the world famous comic book character’s roots by exploring a darker, grittier Batman.

Batman: Dark Tomorrow will feature an all-star cast including some of Batman’s most infamous foes: Black Mask; Killer Croc; Scarface and the Ventriloquist; Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze; as well as fellow super heroes such as Batgirl, Robin, Oracle and others. With music performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, over 25 hours of gameplay and 60 minutes of FMV and soundtrack music, Batman: Dark Tomorrow is the ultimate videogame for Batman fans.

Kemco and DC Comics have also created a limited edition, two-part comic book that will serve as a prequel to the storyline in the game.  The first of two collectible comic books will be included as a pack-in within top-tier platform-specific gaming enthusiast publications, distributing over 1.4 million comic books nationwide. The second, digest-size comic book will be included in the retail game package and limited to the first production run of the game.

About Batman: Dark Tomorrow Explosions echo throughout the mean streets of Gotham as rival gangs battle for control of the city.  Anarchy reigns supreme with the sudden disappearance of Police Commissioner James Gordon and the lockdown of Arkham Asylum, home for the criminally insane.  By using all of his skills, both mental and physical, as well as a variety of gadgets, Batman must stop the gang war, infiltrate Arkham Asylum and rescue the Commissioner.  During this time, Batman must also piece together clues to discover the mastermind behind these seemingly unrelated events and stop an evil plan that threatens the fate of the entire world!

Pelican loses its law suit, allowing Mad Catz to finalize its first GameShark product for release.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Denies Electro Source Request to Prohibit Mad Catz from Selling Its GameShark Product

SAN DIEGO & TORONTO--March 3, 2003
--Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. (AMEX/TSE: MCZ), the world's leading third party video game accessory manufacturer, announced that a Los Angeles Superior Court judge today denied the request of Electro Source, which does business as Pelican Accessories, to prohibit Mad Catz from selling its GameShark product. The ruling clears the way for Mad Catz to release its first GameShark product offerings as scheduled this month.

In reaching its decision, the Court questioned the basis for Electro Source's lawsuit against Mad Catz and Fire International, Ltd.

Morris Perlis, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz Interactive, Inc., stated "We are delighted by the Los Angeles Superior Court's ruling. We have always believed that Electro Source's action was brought solely to intimidate our retail partners and today's Court decision eliminates any uncertainty with retailers and consumers alike as to whether GameShark will ship on time."

Jason Cooper, President of Fire International, Ltd., added, "The Court's decision confirms our belief that this is simply a case where Electro Source is trying to obtain a result in Court that they could not achieve in the marketplace."

FAIRFIELD, N.J., Feb 25, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- NUWAVE Technologies, Inc. The Companies also expect to finalize negotiations and enter into a formal agreement during this time frame.

TalkBack / Zelda Bonus Disc Details
« on: February 12, 2003, 10:01:47 PM »
Still waiting for your Zelda bonus disc?  Come check out what freebies you get with the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker when you pre-order!

The Wind Waker pre-order bonus disc contains full versions of The Ocarina of Time and its previously unreleased expansion, Master Quest, but the American version also comes with a handful of additional Easter Eggs.

As you can see from the photos, the bonus disc is treated like a full-fledged GameCube game and comes with its own instruction manual to help those unfamiliar with the N64 classic.  Also enclosed is a teaser “special preview” manual for the Wind Waker, which is roughly 10 pages in length and introduces some of the game’s characters, mechanics, items and locations.  This mini-manual contains spoilers, though knowing Nintendo, everything mentioned is undoubtedly encountered near the beginning of Link’s new quest.

Since N64 games hardly take up 1.5 GB of data, the U.S. disc also contains seven promotional videos.  As to be expected, one shows gameplay of The Wind Waker.  This contains footage already seen online and on the PGC E3 2002 DVD as well as some brand new footage revealing a few new enemies.

Another video features showcases some hi-quality footage of Amusement Vision’s F-Zero title in action with a bit of E3 demo footage on the side.  The following selection is for 1080 Snowboarding, which features little more than a brief glimpse of what was already seen at Cube Clubs.  Finally, the disc holds footage of a much improved Wario World, boasting smoother graphics and added Wario commentary along with one or two added features, most notably Wario’s ability to inhale coins (like Kirby).

The other three videos feature games already on store shelves: Metroid Prime, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and a medley of clips from various 1st and 3rd party titles—all of which are already released or featured in the other four videos.

But don’t forget, this disc contains a full N64 game (and a half), so have fun revisiting one of the best games ever made!

TalkBack / Wario Ware Website Launched
« on: February 05, 2003, 09:23:40 AM »
Wario Ware, Inc. of Japan is open for business.

Nintendo of America recently published a http://www.planetgamecube.com/news.cfm?action=item&id=3850”>list of games for 2003 which included a few surprises—one of the bigger ones being Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ for Game Boy Advance.  Left undisclosed for three weeks, Nintendo has finally posted the beginnings of its Japanese web page for this unexpected GBA SP launch title, known as Made in Wario overseas.

Currently the site sports a movie of the intro sequence and little else, and since the footage doesn’t really touch on the gameplay itself, we thought we’d share what little we’ve uncovered about the title.  Wario Ware is a collection of simple, ultra-quick, quirky and VERY Japanese mini-games for the GBA—the sorts of games you might find on, say, a cell phone.  Wario’s zany attitude will no doubt contribute to the package, but it isn’t really a Wario game.  Exactly what mini-games the cart will contain is still a mystery.

Wario Ware comes out in North America right alongside the GBA SP on May 26th.

After far too long, our favorite giant, Bloodworth, made his triumphant return as Radio Trivia host!  And while things started off with a technical snag, the pace quickly picked up, and it was as though Dan had never left us.  To his own amazement, Bloodworth produced two stumpers, while TYP provided him with a bonus Q that almost went unanswered.  But in the end, Planet Trivia regular MarioLinkSamus was proclaimed victor, a title he’s long been due.  Congratulations, MarioLinkSamus!
