Woah that looks really amazing.  I have to say the concept and the graphics are definately attracting me to this game.

Where there any scratches on the screen?

What about the angle, was it hard getting a good angle?  I hear that since the screens are positioned so strangely you can never quite see both screens fully.

I think a 3D four swords would work great on the DS!  The top screen could have Zelda WW esque graphics (maybe cel shading cant be done, but certainly cartoony graphics can) and the same thing only in a 2D zelda style view on the bottom screen.  That way you could see what your doing AND see what all the other players are doing (and your general surroundings.  Plus it could make for interesting puzzles, maybe you can see a detail in the 3D view that you cant in the 2D view.  Maybe youll have to be looking at the 2D view to avoid traps in certain areas but the your controlling the 3D view (making it kind of tricky).  Could be interesting.

If either Warcraft or starcraft made it on the DS my life would be complete.

I think the 3D zeldas could use touch screens very well.  Hell just the sheer potential for sword battling is pretty mind boggling.

Anywho we are going to have to accept that the DS will have somewhat skewed views of our favorite franchises.  Whats the point of a console that is supposed to be innovative and different when it is just meant to be a means to bring more of the same?  The DS will change some of the game concepts we know and love, but if we hang around we may find its for the best.

Yeah ofcourse marketing is important, but I say they have done a good job on this so far (hear me out).  You might say, well you hardly see any commercials for it, but they dont have the funds to do this.  Ofcourse sony will be able to have more commercials than the DS,  they are just a bigger company.  But look at the DS website, look at the general look and hype around it, very sleek and very aimed at the older demographic, more so than even the SP (which I think did a pretty good job of grabbing a slightly older audience than the original GBA).  The kids are hooked already, its a portable console and it says Nintendo on it (plus is has mario).  What they need to worry about is the older guys who are looking at a PSP.

And how can you say that price doesnt matter.  What did the price change for the GC do?  The GC was $150 with a free game, suddenly its $100 without a free game (which, when you think about it isnt that big a leap) but people still JUMPED on it and I believe it atleast doubled its sales.

First of all POP WW is going to be an amazing game.  The first one was incredible and the second looks to be just as good, with plenty of combat upgrades, find an interview with the guys on IGN or something and youll see what Im talking about.

I think the whole dark thing has its place, it fits the story and about fate wanting to kill the prince.  But I think they exagerated it a bit... yes, to make it more marketable.  Sorry we live in a world where a great game wont sell well on merit alone.  Just ask.... the first POP game.  Too bad too, I loved the fantasy world in the first one.. the romance, the storytelling.  This game will be slightly tarnished by going out of its way to include God Smack (which I bet dollars to donuts will be mentioned on the cover) but it is still a great game being developed by a gifted team.  Ill definately pick it up and anyone would be a fool to pass it up just because it looks a tad gimmicky.

Ive said it before and Ill say it again.  The DS pretty much NEEDS to go to $100 to be able to compete with the PSP.  I dont mind paying $150 (hell I already have mine preordered and paid off) but Im sure many people will when for $30 extra they can get a PSP.

All the things you mentioned are very important, especially the wifi thing.  I think the Wifi thing could work really well, like it could be a great way to meet other DS users and make it sorta a big thing, Nintendo tried to do this whole communication thing with pokemon and it didnt go quite all the way it couldve, and it only worked for little kids most of the time.

With so much integrated, like a microphone touch screen and such, Palm type things are a must.  Hell nintendo should develop it themselves just to make sure it goes smooth.  There is a topic about it on this forum, clearly Im not the only one that would like this.

I am not exactly sure how the DS plays GBA games, but it would be interesting if it did something to enhance them alot (maybe you can draw on the screen when you pause... or something to that effect?  That would certainly make a lot of GBA owners want to get one.

And they need to grab as many buyers as they can before PSP comes out.  The limited numbers nintendo is launching with is a big nono.  This race will be won or lost before the PSP comes out.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nintendo DS official website (in USA)
« on: November 05, 2004, 07:12:19 AM »
Yeah, I like the site alot.  If you are trying to explain why the DS has features like the ones it does just tell them to go to the site and it explains it really well.  The only thing is that the information it has (while great for DS newbies) is very limited.  No games, no videos of people playing, hell not even any screenshots.  And to be honest, I was hoping that when youve gone to ever part of the site you would "unlock" a new part of the site at the end (since it seemed to keep track of where you had been).

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Argh, Japan is getting Mario Kart at launch too...

Super Mario 64 was incredible for its time.  Now its a great game but its not all that amazing, there has been some amazing stuff released since then (like SMS) so it may pale a little in comparison to some of the stuff were used to.

I just dont think portable video is that big a thing with people yet.  Especially because its still so limited at this point.  Maybe with the next generation... but not now.   I still think Nintendo doesnt stand a chance if they dont lower the price down to $100.

Yeah it wont be as many straightforward ports hopefully.  Though your icon reminds me of how great it would be if Jet Force Gemini atleast had a port to the DS (though a sequel would be even better).  Its just that the N64 was such an underrated system there are so many great games people never got to play on it.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Argh, Japan is getting Mario Kart at launch too...
« on: November 03, 2004, 03:17:57 PM »
Well its not a complete screw over.  We are getting it first after all and Im sure its some kind of marketing thing.  Maybe they thing we Americans need the system sooner and dont mind if it doesnt launch with that many great titles.  Or maybe they think in Japan its very important a system has great launch titles.  *shrugs*

Personally I dont think its that big a deal, so what if certain games arent available at launch?  Just wait a couple of months, would you prefer if the DS was launched in January with more titles?  Besides, it gives you time to breath, no way you can play so many games (let alone pay for them) right off the bat.  Well I guess you  can pay for them if your not a poor college student like me

Um, hate to be the slow uninformed one but where exactly are you all getting these screen shots?  I went to IGN and didnt find any there.

The simplistic graphics would be less annoying on the DS I guess.  I know its a style and all but it looked way too dull on my monitor on a full screen, let alone a TV screen.

Conker seems very very optimistic because its already being released for Xbox.  I wouldnt doubt MS had a portable system in the works so I guess maybe they believe they should just slowly back off from Nintendo support.

I dont know how you can say Peach's personality has changed.  Oh yeah like she used to be such a deep and thought provoking character back when she used to get kidnapped by bowser and say thank you when you rescued her.  Now shes such a ditz cuz she gets kidnapped by bowser and when you rescue her she just says "thank you".  Daisy is a much more unique character, she says "oh yeah" whenever you pass her in Mario Kart
[/sarcasm]

Anywho, I think y'all over analyze what are meant to be very simple characters.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: PSP vs DS
« on: October 30, 2004, 12:54:29 AM »
Well I think it will definately sell atleast in the beginning.  I dont think its gonna be an instant massacre like the PS2 was or anything, but Nintendo definately has to stay frosty.  Buyers will definately be weary though, and if battery life is really as bad as it sounds that alone could sink it.  People keep hating on the casual gamers but these are the guys that could kill PSP.  They dont wanna worry about memory sticks and easily damagable UMDs and changing batteries and turning off wifi and playing puzzle games if the battery is low.  They want a simple experience, and DS definately has that.  I myself have so many GBA games that whenever I have it with me I cary a case around so switching to a PSP with multiple batteries and a mem stick wouldnt kill me, but Im not a casual gamer

This is really impressive for a GBA game but damn that is one of the cheesiest things Ive ever seen.  Everything from the song to the exagerated colors.... this game looks so damn funny I just might pick it up even though by the time it comes out Ill be in portable 3D heavan with the DS.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: PSP vs DS
« on: October 27, 2004, 11:19:06 PM »
Thats nice and all but lets step back into reality for a bit.  Simply put if you gave a brief description (which is what most consumers will get) I bet dollars to donuts that people would choose PSP over DS 9 out of 10 times.  It makes more sense.  Im sure that a touch screen and microphones are really great ideas, hell I wouldve been all for it a while back, but nope, the DS has serious competition and as of right now Nintendo wouldve been safer simply going for a really supped up GBA than trying to reinvent the wheel.

I know all of y'all are really into innovation, I am too, but hell do y'all remember your initial reactions to the DS?  Not good were they?  Most people will first hear about the DS at the store right after seeing a PSP commercial.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Animal Crossing marriage?

I think a good addition to the DS Animal Crossing would be marriage, though the prospect of cross animal breeding is somewhat disturbing.  Then again itd be interesting to have a kid that could have some of your traits, and you could have him do something interesting like gather fruit for you or something.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Why not a Sin and Punishment port of the US DS?
« on: October 27, 2004, 11:06:13 PM »
Woah, Sin an Punishment sounds awesome.  Thanks alot for the description.  Hearing it though it sounds like a very fitting game for something like the PSP but for a smaller screen it sounds harder to appreciate, plus I dont really see how a microphone of a touchscreen could help.

I would adore seeing all these games in the DS, but Im tired of Nintendos ports, its like mixed feelings y'know?  Maybe a compilation, couldnt several 64 games fit on a DS cart.  Or christ man maybe a sequel?  How hard would it be to get the starfox 64 engine, add some new levels, do a few neat things and churn out a new game?  Atleast how much more work would it be than porting it?
