http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/deal/36692/club-nintendo-promotion-gives-free-pokemon-x-and-y-download-codes

From March 1 to March 31, Club Nintendo will give away free Pokemon X and Y download codes with the eligible registration of both a 3DS system and at least one game.

In order to get the free download, gamers must be in North America and register their 3DS, 3DS XL, or 2DS alongside at least one of the following games with Club Nintendo:

  • Mario Kart 7

  • Super Mario 3D Land

  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf

  • Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D

  • LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins

  • Yoshi’s New Island

All of these titles are available in stores and on the eShop. Both digital and physical copies are able to be registered, but the 3DS must be linked to the Club Nintendo account before purchasing a digital copy in order to register it.

Once the system and game are registered, you can select your free game (either Pokemon X or Y) in your Club Nintendo To-Do list. A download code will then appear, as well as being sent via e-mail. The download code then can be entered by May 31 in the 3DS eShop.

Twenty years of monkey business and counting.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36683/dkc-tropical-freeze-creators-discuss-game-refinements-development-history-in-interview

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze creators Michael Kelbaugh and Kensuke Tanabe were recently interviewed by Official Nintendo Magazine. They dove into not only the features and characteristics of the new DK title, but also the long, fruitful history of the franchise.

Both Kelbaugh and Tanabe have been involved with the series since the days of the original Donkey Kong Country, though not always working directly together. Tanabe explained, “20 years ago, I worked on the localisation (the Japanese version) of the Donkey Kong Country series under Miyamoto-san...At that time, I never had an opportunity to meet Michael directly. Only, after 10 years, when he became president of Retro, we finally got to speak face-to-face.”

The two also went on to explain why they think Retro is able to hone in on the strengths of the franchise. “There is an entire legacy of video gaming veterans still working at Nintendo that we continue to learn from,” Kelbaugh stated.

Tanabe also mentioned that a lot of people that work at Retro are much younger and played Nintendo games when they were kids. “I believe that, because they know how much fun it was to play the games themselves, they are extremely passionate to make current users feel exactly the same way. What I can do here is to explain to them the ideas behind the Nintendo games that they enjoyed in their childhood. Maybe that's the reason why they were able to recreate the fun of Nintendo games without losing anything.”

And without losing anything, Retro has made a number of refinements with Tropical Freeze. A lot of time was spent working on the fur (as requested by Satoru Iwata) and increasing animation quality. David Wise, the original composer of Donkey Kong Country, was also added to the project. “This, combined with Kenji Yamamoto and Scott Petersen, lent itself to a simply amazing soundtrack and special effects effort,” Kelbaugh said.

Features were also implemented so players can play at whichever difficulty they choose, although this does not mean that the difficulty has been lowered. Kelbaugh added, “You may recall that the original Donkey Kong Country series on the SNES was hard. Very hard! If we were to make Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze easier, it really wouldn't be a Donkey Kong Country game, would it?”

Here’s the full interview, in which the two creators share their favorite levels, talk about team relationships, and guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze released February 21 in North America and Europe and February 22 in Australia for the Wii U.

Mario Golf: World Tour is coming to the 3DS on May 2 in North America and Europe.

TalkBack / Nintendo Wins Patent Infringement Case
« on: February 20, 2014, 08:14:00 PM »

Another one bites the dust.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36648/nintendo-wins-patent-infringement-case

A patent infringement case at the International Trade Commission has been won by Nintendo. The case was brought by three patent-licensing companies, Technology Properties Limited, LLC, Phoenix Digital Solutions LLC, and Patriot Scientific Corporation, that originally filed the complaint in July, 2012.

The complaint was filed against Nintendo for infringing three patents on their high-performance, low-cost processor. Both the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DSi handheld systems were in question. However, after a year and a half, the case concluded to find that none of the patents were being infringed by Nintendo.

Nintendo of America’s vice president and deputy general counsel Richard Medway spoke on matter:

"We are very pleased with the commission’s determination, which confirmed the judge’s finding that Nintendo’s products do not infringe the asserted patent. Nintendo’s track record demonstrates that we vigorously defend patent lawsuits, including cases in the ITC, when we believe we have not infringed another party’s patent. Nintendo continues to develop unique and innovative products while respecting the intellectual property rights of others."

TalkBack / Year of Luigi Ending March 18
« on: February 18, 2014, 10:37:00 PM »

Better to have Luigi’d and lost, than to never have Luigi’d at all.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36620/year-of-luigi-ending-march-18

There will be one more month of celebration for the green-hatted hero according to a Miiverse message from Shigeru Miyamoto posted earlier today. “...All good things must come to an end, and the Year of Luigi will conclude on March 18,” he wrote.

Miyamoto initially thanked everyone for their support in being able to release so many Luigi games during the year. He then went on to announce that on March 18, fans will no longer be able to post or comment within the Year of Luigi Community on Miiverse.

Comments were then welcomed as a means to bring closure to the celebratory year.

The Year of Luigi marked the 30th anniversary for Luigi’s debut and officially started last year on February 14, making the Year of Luigi a bit longer than a standard year. During his time to shine, Nintendo prominently showcased Luigi in not only video games, but also his very own themed 3DS XL.

Nintendo has not yet revealed if another honorary year is in store once the Year of Luigi concludes. Any guesses? Let us know in the comments.

TalkBack / Mighty No. 9 Reveals Boss Mighty No. 7
« on: February 18, 2014, 09:35:06 PM »

Live by the sword, die by the sword

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36618/mighty-no-9-reveals-boss-mighty-no-7

Mighty No. 9 director Koji Imaeda and lead character designer Kimo Kimo have unveiled another boss character, Mighty No. 7, the sleek red sword-wielding robot.

Starting out as a bot with scissors on the back of his head, Kimo Kimo designed this character before any backstory was created.

"Beck's design had just gotten approved -- I was so happy! In my excitement, I went ahead and design a "brother" robot from him on my own. I wasn't even assigned to work on boss designs at this point!"

Later on, roles for the Mighty Nos were established and project lead Keiji Inafune specified what he wanted--"a sword-wielding robot that fans would really respond to" thus furthering Kimo Kimo's creation.

As a result, after different ideas, a final design was reached. Bruce Lee came to be an inspiration for the character, and Mighty No. 7 ended up with swords in each hand, and a yellow scarf to smooth it out.

Mighty No. 9 does not yet have a release date, but is schedule to be released on the 3DS, among other platforms.

Colorful before, but prettier now.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36614/hd-remake-of-flowerworks-follies-adventure-to-be-released-this-year

A new HD remake of Flowerworks: Follie's Adventure is being released this quarter, developer Nocturnal Entertainment has announced.

Originally released for WiiWare in 2010, Flowerworks HD is revamped to make use of the Wii U's HD capabilities. Nocturnal attributes the project to Nintendo's kindness; the company lent Nocturnal Wii U devkits in order to complete the port.

Being their first release since the original Flowerworks, Nocturnal considers the HD remake to be their version of a Kickstarter campaign. Should the game do well, the studio will continue to develop games for the Wii U.

Flowerworks HD: Follie's Adventure was submitted to Nintendo for approval last week. Once that is complete, Nocturnal plans to release the game in the US this quarter, with a European release to follow shortly thereafter. Check below for a handful of screenshots from Flowerworks, all in glorious HD.
