That was an awesome read.  I am really interested in what they will be showing at GDC this year.  I'm wondering what types of apps they will be adding to the Wii U from that.

According to Sega's financial report, Sonic All Star Racing sold 216 000 + on Wii U.

Also if i'm reading it right, Vita version outsold it.

I think you read it wrong.  It looks like it states that on Wii U, they released 2 titles that totaled sales of 260,000.  On the Vita, they released 7 titles that totaled 390,000.  I don't see where they break down the individual SKUs.

As far as i know, Sega only published one game on Wii U. All those sales HAVE to be Sonic Racing.

I don't see where they break down the individual SKUs.
It's in the "Major Titles" section:
Quote
Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed (Europe / US) PS3, X360, PSV, Wii U
Usually publishers line-up platforms in order of their sales.

Nope, statistically impossible since the Wii U version accounted for 27% of the games total sales, so it would mathematically be impossible for 3 other versions to have sold more than it (since that would add up to at least 108.3%).

Except the list of titles and sales for Wii U show 2 titles totaling 260k in sales.  Maybe they published another game in EU or Japan that you don't know about.

SEGA published The Cave on the eShop, so perhaps they're counting that?

The chart includes projections through the end of March, which means they are including Aliens: Colonial Marines since it is coming out before the end of March.

The Dragon Quest game is actually "Warrior's of Eden", not "Fighters of Eden" (Senshitachi translate's to Warrior). But NeoGAF often gets things wrong

Yeah, & apparently the Vita version of Fifa 13 outsold the Wii U version of the same game.  Gee, I wonder why 3rd parties seem to be bailing on a sinking ship... ::)

I'm really disappointed in DmC: Devil May Cry's place on that NPD list. That game deserved to sell a whole lot better than that, despite (and maybe because of) the rabid, illogical whining of the Devil May Cry "fans".

Very true. It also bodes poorly for February, as the only new release I can think of is that Fist of the North Star eShop game.

I think the Wii U really needs the PS4 and Xbox 360 to come out this year.  They will struggle like the Wii U with rumored $400 prices and development time of learning a new system leading to a lack of games.

Wii U struggling now isn't that big of a deal since it's the only next gen player, but it needs to get some great games and momentum before the PS4 and Xbox 360 come out.  It may be a good time to price drop then as well to really get some strong momentum while the PS4 and Xbox 360 are struggling.

If PS4 and Xbox 360 delay to fall 2014, then Nintendo may be screwed.  Wii U can't compete even with a 10 million user base against the user bases of the PS3/Xbox 360.  Of course those systems are going to sell more multiplat titles.  They can port easily between the two and they both cost less than the Wii U.  Wii U would flounder for 2 years and not be on the radar for the "next gen" battle.  That's the risk of releasing first.

The Wii U is the 3DS all over again.  Both systems were $100 more expensive then their predecessors at launch and have a lack of exclusive games to play.  Yeah the Basic model is only $50 more, but it lacks a game.  All Wii's at launch at $250 had a game packed in, so the average consumer the Deluxe is the real successor.  No surprise the Wii U is now preforming similar to how the 3DS was in it's early months as well.  The fact that the Wii is outselling the Wii U, like the DS was outselling the 3DS pretty much proves that.

Of course the biggest problem is the Wii U is already losing money on the hardware, unlike the 3DS which was profiting off its launch price.  I'd imagine they'll be able to drop the price before the end of the year, probably to go along with Mario Kart U to give the system a big holiday boast, but for now it's not happening.  These next several months are going to be pretty rough for Wii U hardware.  Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo is delaying Pikmin 3 so they can release it right when they're finally able to cut the Wii U's price, because even they know the price is hurting them at this point.

Of course I love how delusional the Sony fanoys on Neo GAF are, thinking the PS4 is going to dominate now.  If a $350 Wii U with a 2D Mario isn't doing well in sales, I don't see how a PS4 that's at least $400 with Killzone 4 as its rumored flagship title is going to do much better.  It really is the 3DS all over again since a lot of these same Sony fanboys thought since the 3DS was doing terrible, the Vita was guaranteed to dominate.  Wouldn't be surprised if history repeats itself again.

I don't see how Nintendo could even think about delaying Pikmin any more than they already have. You think people were pissed about Rayman, just think of the reaction it'd get if it got out that they pushed back Pikmin 3 because of sales concerns.

Those are extremely low numbers, no doubt. From Gamasutra, the January sales for the Wii U are lower than the worse months of the three other home consoles.

A desperate Nintendo is an interesting Nintendo and (eventually) a good thing for fans. I doubt we'll see a Wii U price cut and ambassador program if only for the fact that Nintendo can't afford it. I can only assume that the panic klaxons are blaring at Nintendo. The only reasonable action I can see Nintendo taking is to take this bad news in stride, wait for great games to be finished, rethink their marketing, and concentrate on promoting all interesting, upcoming Wii U retail and eShop titles to current Wii U owners. The recent Nintendo Direct is a little step in the right direction.
