Cor! Almost a million in a week. Do we have data on the sales everywhere else in the world? I'm intrigued to know what this new figure does for the LTD for New Super Mario Bros Wii.

We got to wait till this Thursday or next to find out out NPD.
I would guess atleast 1 million in NPD (probably closer to 1.4<my estimate>)

No idea on EUR/AUS sales though.

Anyone have the total numbers for these games world wide?

I'm really surprised Galaxy hasn't at least hit the Million Mark in Japan. 3D Mario just doesn't do nearly as well there.

The Japan numbers are just a small chunk of the 5 million sales pie. North America and Europe are what make up the bulk of Galaxy's sales.

I wonder how much Galaxy 2 will sell. This will be interesting.

Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

MH3 has a really good chance at breaking that barrier before Jan 1st.
I think it was last reported at 940k sold (2 weeks ago) with 1.1million shipped.

It will sell them all eventually, even if they are sold at a big discount.

Nintendo's Winter 2009 catalog is... just a stinking booklet catalog.

In the previous 3 years, Nintendo provided free DVDs.

This is it.  Nintendo can't afford to throw free media around anymore.  The Bubble has Burst.  The Fad is Over.

Amazing to see games like Wii Fit and Play past the 20 million mark. Mario Kart is almost there as well. That has to be the most succesful Mario Kart yet right?

Super Mario 64 was over 11 million and Super Mario Sunshine was around 5.5 million. Super Mario 64's number is only the N64 version and doesn't include re-releases or the DS version.

Very happy to see over 8 Million for Galaxy! What was sunshine and MARIO 64 numbers?

Amazing to see games like Wii Fit and Play past the 20 million mark. Mario Kart is almost there as well. That has to be the most succesful Mario Kart yet right?

Galaxy's sales are satisfactory.  Pretty much hitting the ceiling for non-casual titles.  Nothing like a real winner like Mario Kart.

Mario Kart Wii is simply the best selling racing game of all time.

Can Galaxy catch up? Only 3 million more to go.... but that's a lot to sell for a game that's been out for awhile and has a sequel on the horizon.
is your sanity...

It's stuck, and it shows the non-casual market is shrinking and insignificant compared to the real game market.

Well, it could certainly also be in part due to flaws in the game.  While I think MG is lots of fun, it's hardly perfect -- the individual levels are often wonderful, but eventually start to seem a bit samey (you replay the same environments multiple times after all), and the hub is boring; I often found myself feeling not very compelled to seek out the next level ...

Also, a mechanism to help people get past hard points is pure genius.  I like having to build my skills and get past a sticky part, to some degree, but there's a point at which I just get tired of it, and if I can't progress further because of that, I'll often just stop playing the game altogether when stuck like that.  That's a shame when the game it generally fun, and it would be nice if games had a way of dealing more explicitly with such issues -- great game design is extremely important, but it's very hard to make something which fits all players...

3D Marios are guilty of having less gameplay, less platforming per every step Mario takes.  When the 360-degree space around you is open to walk on, that equates to a lot of EMPTY space.  There's a lot of space to deviate and go far and at the same time go nowhere near the objective, and inseparable from this is the fact that the scenery is just repeated when you retread it to approach the objective or when you revisit the stage for a new objective.

2D Marios are mostly forward+back, and a lot of new platforms/platforming is visibly crammed onto the screen.  General folks are quicker to wrap their heads around the 2D presentation, and the local platforming objectives are more immediately recognizable.  Japan is largely inept at 3D.

2D is teh casual.
