Ooookaaaayyyy theeeenn....

I tell ya, compiling not just one, but two stories on NPD sales data is back-breaking work. You basically have to rein in the entire internet and condense it in a single article. Also, my computer environment is not ergonomic right now.

26,000 is... well, the Japanese market is just anemic all around. let's not forget that in Japan, hardcore games have a one to two week shelf life and that's it. I'd consider 26,000 a pretty big failure in that market. They have GOT to be depending on overseas sales.

It probably did if you count garage sales, flea markets, and Ebay.... plus all the hardware clones of the system, which are now actually legal thanks to the patents having expired.

Aren't garage sales, flea markets, etc just resales of used hardware and thus just moving those sales numbers around?

I wonder if hardcore titles follow the traditional curve on the Wii or the Wii curve... Then again Fragile is said to be a pretty flawed game so word of mouth might work against it.

Actually 26,000 is really good when you consider the fact that Namco only shipped around 30 - 35K copies.  Not to mention according to people on Neo GAF who are living in Japan, the game had no advertising either.

So in reality, Fragile could be considered a success since Namco sent it out to die with no advertising and low shipments.  In other words, it's another example of a third party creating a self-fulfilling prophecy on the Wii by doing all they can to make sure their games fails.

World Wide as of December 31, 2008, lifetime sales figures were as follows:

   1. Nintendo DS - 96.22 million
   2. Nintendo Wii - 44.96 million
   3. Xbox 360 - 28.5 million*
   4. PlayStation 3 - 21.3 million

*At the time of its Q4 FY 2008 results, which covered April 1 to June 30, 2008, Microsoft noted that it had shipped 1.3 Xbox 360s million during that period, but did not specify sales. However, this figure was included in determining the Xbox 360's lifetime sales as Microsoft announced that the console had sold 28 million units as of December 31.

Worldwide lifetime sales figures for the PlayStation 2 and PSP are not available, as Sony only began reporting sales, not shipments, following the launch of the PS3.

PS3 is actually very close to the 360 but Wii smoked the 360 pretty fast.

Aren't PS3 sales trending with GC sales? It may be like that situation where the 360 ends up staying ahead.

Also there are people who bought 2 different 360 like Lindy who admitted that he sold his first 360 on ebay for an Elite 360 and there are quite a few people who bought an Arcade console as a replacement console.

I don't understand these people who purchased multiple 360s because their unit died.
1. I want to play game
2. red ring of LULZ
3. (purchases new system)
4. Repeat

After awhile, you think they would buy a PS3 or a gaming PC to play their game.

Or, you know, at least get a free replacement under warranty...

Switching to PS3 won't keep your game library (arguably you could use TPB to keep them on the PC) which can easily be worth more than the system itself (70€ games on a system that cost me 200€? If I had any substantial library on the thing I wouldn't want to give those up either)

While that's true the failure rate is very low probably the same failure rate as Wii has which is below 5%.

I would like to think that with all the hulabaloo MS has went through with their rings of death and spending a fortune replacing systems that they've addressed the failure rate at this point. If they haven't then by all means they should be boycotted, but if they've improved the situation then people should accept their free replacement and got on with it.

Microsoft still hasn't addressed the RROD issues and the E errors I know someone that's on their 11th 360 which is just INSANE. Every one keeps thinking that when Microsoft makes a new model with a revamped chip set it will fix it however they will get RRODs. Also now all people that bought a 360 during launch period doesn't have the RROD protection anymore and I know my RROD protection will run out this June  :-\.
