If you're going by proof of existence, you're tossing Ness, Marth and Roy out of Melee and Lucas out of Brawl.

I would disagree. Fire Emblem and Mother are iconic series and more than deserving of recognition in Smash Bros. True, they do not have the cultural significant in the west that they do in Japan, and the characters from those series' are far from household names, but the games themselves have a place in the annals of Nintendo history.

By comparison, Sakura Samurai and Dillon's Rolling Western are inconsequential. Cool games perhaps (I wouldn't know, as I haven't played either) but not worthy of a slot on the character roster.

Dillon could be a pretty cool character if they designed him right. Depending on how far they want to go with it, Mallow could be pretty awesome too.

I love Super Mario RPG and I like the characters of Mallow and Geno, but they were supporting characters in one game released like 17 years ago. I know about Geno and that poll years ago. I just feel that there are far more important and iconic characters to include, even in the Mario series. Paper Mario is an extension of Mario, but I think he makes more sense. He's different enough from regular Mario to deserve consideration. I realize Geno and Mallow are also different, but Paper Mario has starred in four games, the most recent having been released last year. Even if they would be considered as obscure characters like Mr. Game and Watch and R.O.B., there are better choices, like Sheriff or Mike Jones (as previously mentioned in this thread), both of whom would represent new series to Smash Bros.

I haven't played Dillon's Rolling Western or Sakurai Samurai, but considering they're newer, I wouldn't mind seeing representation from those games. I'm mainly hoping for more variety in IP selection. If a character is from a series never seen before in Smash Bros., I usually favor that character over others. If a character is from a series already represented in Smash Bros., I think that character should be a really important one from that series. For example, I personally like Prince Peasley and Fawful from Mario and Luigi, but like Mallow and Geno, I feel other characters from Mario (and in general) deserve a spot more. So, if another Mario character were to be chosen, Paper Mario, for example, would trump Prince Peasley or Geno.

hey could they do this thing I asked about last time this time?

https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=22525.0;nowap

I'm a fan of games that let you choose multiple costumes for the same character as opposed to the extra lame palette swap. For instance, there was no Wario in the last super smash bros, but there was a palette swap which aproximated Mario as wario. In that case it was ok, i would really like to see some characters look radically different with different costume changes.

Link
Twilight Princess Link-default
Ocarina Link - secondary
Ocarina link - purple
Twilight princess link-blue armor
Twilight Princess link-red armor
possible lttp link Brown sleeves different face

Wario
Wario Ware- Default
Wario classic- secondary
plus some more costumes

Young link-if he even appears
Wind waker style-default
majora's mask style secondary
Wind Waker blue surfer

Solid Snake
Grey suit-default
camo suit w/ eye patch secondary (aka BIGBOSS)
Grey Ninja or Raiden as another costume
Big Boss Sean Connery Version
Liquid Snake

Zelda: zeldas a bit more complicated
Ocarina version zelda
ocarina version shiek
tp version zelda
tp style shiek

Ganondorf
Tp version default
WW version
oot version
ghost night version

samas
all different versions of the varia suit.

pokémon trainer
different pokemon trainers

Fox
Fox last smash bros
Fox ds
fox n64

Yoshi and kirby and pikachu
since none of these wear much in the way of clothes, im satisfied with a palette swap

Mario
Mario: Regular
Dr. Mario
Mario red overalls
Hawaian shirt and sunglasses mario

Ike
Ike could have Marth and roy skins

Donkey Kong
Dk-with Tie
Classic Dk no clothes
DK snes mario kart clothed

Peach
Daisy peach palette swap

To be fair, they already did. One of your suggestions was different costumes for Wario. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the default look for Wario was from WarioWare but you had his classic look as an alternate costume.

And also, you're going to add even more variations of Link in.

Well the best thing about Namco helping out on the game is we'll probably get alternate costumes for all the characters now.  Since Tekken and Soul Caliber have alternative customs for their characters, I'd imagine the people on the team should be able to talk Sakurai into getting them in, because these are people who are used to making fighting games with alternative customs for characters and can probably get it done much quicker and easier then anyone at Game Arts or HAL could have.

Agreed. Namco's fighting games have so many costumes per character I will be shocked if each character doesn't have at least 1 real costume change each.

Aside from characters and balance this is my biggest hope for the game.

My biggest hope is that they somehow use the Wii Pad to an awesome degree.

Like four people playing while someone on the WiiPad is just toying with everyone. Freezing peoples feet so they can't move, sending gusts of wind so they can't recover, shooting fireballs from the sky, swatting items away that people really want, etc. etc.

Since that would piss-off the snobs that like to compete in tournaments (you know, the ones who don't like items, prefer fighting only on flat stages like Final Destination, etc.), I approve and want it.

It would be sweet if you could team up to "kill" the Wiipad gamer, i.e. not allowing them to manipulate the game for a time. The Wiipad could float around like those little dudes in clouds in Mario games.

That'd be a great team mode, if you could use two game pads. Two players duke it out, while two more assist. Maybe play minigames to earn and send items to the players on the TV.

Building on what Stogi recommended, what if Nintendo were to utilise the Gamepad to bring back one of the most beloved features of Brawl? What if the sole purpose of the Gamepad in Smash Bros 4 is to make characters slip? What if, with a deft stroke of your finger across the touch screen, you could make one of the characters on screen fall flat on their ass? Everyone would love that, right?! RIGHT!?

I say @#$% tourney***s, if you have to take out half of the game to make it competitively viable then I think that should beg the question, are they even playing the same game anymore.
It's not like they're modding the game to play it that way. They're just shutting off options which the development team put into the game so people can enjoy the game whatever way they want to. Some people like things turned up and on, some don't. Who cares? Anyone who legitimately gets upset over this on either side needs to calm their **** down.

I don't appreciate that language. I personally can't stand the behavior I usually witness during tournies, be it on video or in person, the general culture disgusts me. Yet at the same time I love the high level play and cutting out as much randomness as possible for such matches. Still I love the good ol' balls to the wall zaniness that Smash brings.

I love both styles of play and just want the options to play it both ways. Alienating either branch of gamers is no good to no body!

It's like you lack basic comprehension skills.

No one is hacking the game to remove items or play on a single stage. Those are options included by the development team so people can play the game the way they want to. My understanding is that the major tournaments do not allow cheats or hacks so even though Project M exists to make Brawl play more like Melee, your so-called "tourney***s" still have to play the regular, unhacked version in tournaments.

Honestly, i am making a point, if you have to outright ban half of the game for competitive game, can the game be said to be viable for tournaments
