Psycohnauts is made by Double Fine Productions. Double Fine is run by Tim Schafer. Tim Schafer made various games including Monkey Island and Grim Fandango. He's really awesome.

His game is really awesome. It's the best game you will ever plan on anybody's Xbox. It's one of the best games you will play on PS2. If it were out for GameCube, it would be one of the best games on that system. I hear it's out on PC. I'm sure it's the best platformer for PC.

It's hilarious. The gameplay is tight and fun. It's hilarious. It has killer art direction. It's hilarious. The characters are awesome. Finally, it's hilarious.

Buy it. End of discussion. However, discussion on other Tim Schafer/ Double Fine / Psychonauts topics may continue if you wish it.

Schafer wanted Psychonauts on Gamecube but the developers/publisher said no as a business decision.

It would have made more sense to release this game on Cube seeing as how its market is the largest concentration of platforming and adventure game fans.

And therein lies the problem. His best work is in adventure games. Psychonauts is not an adventure game.

RE4 has sold over a million all by itself -=PGC forums=-

but that still doesn't make it an 'adventure' game

Look at your store shelves, PC section. Games like Syberia sell. There's tons of Myst-like games.

The last decent Adventure games I played were The Longest Journey, Syberia, and to a lesser extent, Syberia II. I've got Runaway: A Road Adventure sitting in front of me right now, but I wouldn't really call it decent.

I also love these guys, even if the Quest for Glory II VGA remake is taking forever. Man, the King's Quest II remake was sweet.

Other Adventure games I'm waiting for are Still-Life (sounds really interesting, but I want the PC version), Dreamfall and Another Code: Two Memories.

Quest for Glory is still a perfect game in my opinion. I replay it over and over to this day.

Anyway, I picked up Psychonauts today completely because of this thread (I don't usually follow PC games that much) and I can't wait to play it. To bad I won't be back to my machine until Monday to try it out.

I loved the game myself even though there are flaws. And it wasn't LA that published or develope the game so I'm not sure why you even bother with that at all.

I really wished the game sold better myself--there's alot of charm (characters and level design) to this game :0.

I just played through the first level and it was so cool... I can't even really describe it but I'll try.

I kept having flashbacks to those classic Disney World rides. Ya know the kind of rides where you are in a very slow moving car but there are crazy effects going all all around you? That's what the game feels like. Even though I'm controlling the character it feels like I'm just along for the ride...and I mean that as a good thing. Everything flows wonderfully.

I can't wait to get home and play some more tonight.

The catch is it's only available on the free service until December 31. What kind of sick joke is it to make a two-year old game available for free during the business gaming season of the year?

I'll grab this as soon as I get around to buying a gamepad. (It'll probably be a while. I have a GameTap subscription, so there's no rush.)
