TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Reveals Switch 2
« on: January 17, 2025, 08:50:40 PM »
CES almost never has anything about console gaming anymore, the closest they came to that this year was a PS5-style controller from Hyperkin that works on Xbox Series X and PC. So even if Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2 earlier, it wouldn't have made a difference for CES. CES is essentially a PC show, if a product can't be used on a PC it won't be shown there

"Aleksej Pazjitnov"? I am not sure how you got his name so wrong. It's Alexey Pajitnov

The allegations against Nicalis were never proven to be true

One minor correction, it's actually Z-A (not ZA).

Since i'm not a fan of the X and Y games, I don't have as much interest in this as I did Arceus since I loved Diamond and Pearl

5
It's Entertainment Software Association, not Electronic Software Association

Sad to see this happen, it was a better shows that Gamecom

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Announces Development Of Live-Action Zelda Movie
« on: November 08, 2023, 07:04:27 PM »
This being live action instead of animation is troubling. There are very few good live action fantasy movies outside of Peter Jackon's LOTR films, which this will be inevitably compared to in an unflattering light for Nintendo. This being a co-pro with Sony is doubly troubling.

The perpetually mediocre Tom Holland potentially being cast as Link because Sony is involved is triple troubling.

I just don't have a good feeling about this one. Illumination's Mario film was at best passable, but I actually care about Zelda.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I strongly disagree. I haven't seen any non-MCU movies with Tom Holland, but he is good in the MCU movies. And though it isn't an all-time classic, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is entertaining and one I would recommend to any Mario fan. And Sony movies are not that bad, some are really good. I think the Zelda movie could be really good

the headline was unnecessary

It would have been nice if the version of Metal Gear Solid was the GameCube version (The Twin Snakes) since that had so many improvements.

TalkBack / Re: Pikmin 2 (Switch) Review
« on: July 20, 2023, 07:19:13 PM »
I haven't played the Switch version, but I strongly disagree with your review. I've played the Wii version as recently as this year (via the Wii U) and it's a great game and my favorite of the series. I loved the first game too, didn't like Pikmin 3 though. Aside from a few bosses, the game is not that difficult. The environmental hazards in the cave are not as bad as you say. You also don't need to get your Pikmin back to the ship, they made this clear even in the first game, all you need is to have the Pikmin under your control at the end of the day and you'll be fine

I really hope that it's not true that the next Nintendo system will be equivalent in power to LAST generation hardware. If the next Nintendo system is no more powerful than hardware that will be 11 years old by that point, then third party support will quickly dry up and will be like the Wii and how only a few publishers put any effort in. If the next Nintendo system isn't at least equal to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, then we might be looking at problems after the first year or so

I haven't watched the direct yet, but are these based on the GameCube versions or the Wii New Play Control versions? I liked the Wii controls for the games

I don't miss the days of arcade/NES games not telling you how to play them, especially since Nintendo doesn't bother including digital instructions (unless i'm missing them) and I don't think I should have to look online to figure out how to play the games. I gave up on Mystery Tower in about 2 minutes (why does any game have a suicide button?). Blaster Master: Enemy Below is boring and not fun. I'm sure Harvest Moon is fine, but I always get bored by those type of games. I have never played Kirby Tilt 'n Tumble, I might try it.

TalkBack / Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie Blu-ray Review
« on: June 07, 2023, 06:43:14 PM »
The official release date may have been next week, but even Walmart (which doesn't usually break street dates, it's in the system that the items won't even scan at the register) is selling it now. I bought the Blu-ray/DVD/Digital "Powered Up" Edition.

I'm surprised to see that Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line participated in the top 20 list, while Metroid Prime Remastered didn't appear at all. Especially considering that Theatrhythm is a fairly niche franchise, while Metroid Prime physical copies were sold out everywhere

The physical release wasn't until February 22, so it would have been only 3 days on the charts. Plus, it seems like many people that wanted it bought the digital release since it came out 2 weeks earlier. From what I heard, they also didn't make a ton of physical copies.

All you uncultured swine (  ;) ) who played the 1st Baten Kaitos but didn't play the superior Baten Kaitos Origins have no excuse now.

**** Yes, this is exactly what I was hoping to see. Nintendo has historically refused to acknowledge their GameCube games, so this needed to happen. These are 2 exceptionally unique RPGs more people should play.

Well Nintendo has basically ran out of Wii U games to port so now it's time to raid the Gamecubes lineup of games less people played so they can basically advertise them as new games to the larger gaming audience.

Either way this is great news since I was always interested in both Baten Kaitos games but never got around to buying.  They came out in my late High School and Early College years were I just bought one game at a time and played that game as soon as I bought it.  So naturally I missed out on a lot of titles that way.

Now I'll these remasters and they'll go into my backlog and eventually be played in 2035.

Maybe now i'll finally be able to replay Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, which Nintendo has ignored since its original release and it usually goes for more than $150 used

I'm not gonna boycott a game just because someone was bitter over getting fired. She doesn't like the pay they offered? Fine, she doesn't have to take it. But that is no reason to not buy the game and this is very unprofessional of her. I actually wasn't planning to buy the game, but I might buy it now just to spite her.

He can want it to be canon, but it's not. Paramount has been pretty clear over the years that only movies and TV shows are considered canon in Trek. Maybe he meant they tried to keep in in line with the show, similar to how some book writers try to keep their books in line with the canon but they are not canon either.

TalkBack / Re: Pikmin 4 Announced (Re-Announced?) for 2023
« on: September 13, 2022, 02:21:06 PM »
Refresh my memory, what were the exact comments years ago? Can we be sure it wasn't just some misunderstanding over "Hey! Pikmin"?

Regardless if it's a new development or a long-completed game, still glad to see a new Pikmin! Looking forward to more being revealed.

https://www.eurogamer.net/pikmin-4-in-development-and-very-close-to-completion

When Nintendo was asked after the Miyamoto interview about his comments that the 4th major Pikmin game was coming, Nintendo straight up said that Pikmin 4 was in development

I think it's safe to say that the bulk of that $784 million is to buy the Lord of the Rings franchise, LOL. I think a lot of people (myself included) think this came out of nowhere

TalkBack / Re: Lost NES Title Gimmick! To Be Released On Switch In Fall
« on: August 18, 2022, 07:48:45 PM »
I first saw this in a Pat the NES Punk video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yPepjmmZVY), it looks like a fun game but is hard (especially if you want the good ending, which is incredibly hard to do because you if you game over then it becomes impossible to get the good ending).

I hope they use the name "Mr. Gimmick!" that they used for the Scandinavian release, I think it sounds better

21
That would explain why i've never heard of them, I have no interest in service games because i'm not a fan of having to essentially pay hundreds of dollars to get the full experience of a game.

Who the heck is Fanbyte? It always does bug me when I see sites quote random sites or Twitter accounts. Same thing happens with wrestling news, stuff like "this Twitter account reports...".

But assuming it's true, no big deal. Developers frequently scrap products before announcing them, usually we don't find out until years later (if ever). It's not often the game is finished, but it has happened before (even with Nintendo, they developed Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball for the GameCube but didn't release it)

Did Square Enix just take the first offer that was given because $300 million is extremely low for the IP's involved in this sale.  Yeah they bought it for $130 million back in 2009, but with all the high profile studio buyouts since then, the value of gaming studio's, especially with legacy IP's has grown quite a bit since then.

It does seem a little low compared to recent acquisitions. Sony bought Bungie for $3.6 billion even though the only IP of value they own is Destiny, EA bought a company called Playdemic (who make Facebook games) for $1.4 billion, ByteDance (parent company of TikTok) paid $4 billion to buy a company called Moonton (whose only really IP I can see is a MOBA called Mobile Legends).

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Switch Sports Review-In-Progress
« on: April 27, 2022, 07:07:44 PM »
I tend to mostly play games offline, so it's very disappointing to me when a game basically locks progression behind an online wall. It honestly can make me decide not to get a game sometimes.

Other than fixing a few bugs, the update for Arceus is only post-game stuff unfortunately. I'm glad they finally added Oak's Letter to BDSP. Hopefully we will eventually get the Member Card (for Darkrai) and Azure Flute (for Arceus, considering they never released it for Diamond and Pearl because they thought fans would be confused how to use it).
