Episode 11: LET'S GET GOLDEN!
« on: April 27, 2012, 01:56:28 PM »

April's Nintendo Direct in Japan slowly transforms into a week of gold.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/famicast/29991

The Famicast crew assembles once again for your monthly Japanese Nintendo fix. This time, JC, Danny, ‘NintenDaan’ Koopman, and Minoru gather to give you the latest on what is happening in the world of Nintendo in the Land of the Rising Sun.

First up, the guys go over the all Japan-related announcements that were made during the April 21 Nintendo Direct Conference. Plenty of megatons were announced, many of which are also available now in Japan and in other territories as well. Check out this lengthy segment to see if there was anything that you may have missed.

New Business this episode contains less rhythm than the past two episodes (though some is thrown in for good measure!) and a mix of old and new releases. Barrel rolls, moon walking, strategy RPGs, and 100+ hours of Kid Icarus: Uprising are all discussed.

Last up, the Famicrew talks about Golden Week, a collection of holidays from late April through the first week in May. The origins of the holiday, drinking and riding (bicycles), and hanami are all touched upon in the Life in Japan segment.

Pull up your chair, grab your favorite alcoholic beverage, and don’t forget to turn on your 3DS and the cherry viewing mode in Sakura Samurai to fully enjoy this episode!

We'd like to apologize in advance for the audio issues with Daan Koopman's track as it comes out of stereo sound and only outputs to the left audio channel. We sincerely hope that it doesn't affect your enjoyment of the show.

Great episode guys, really enjoyed it.
With regards the Fire Emblem series, I found it hard to wrap my head around at first. I could never get into the Wii game for instance. I've really enjoyed Sacred Stones though, so I'm eager to see how the 3DS game turns out.

I also agree, great show! Thanks for putting these out!

Also, I agree w/ fire emblem.  It wasnt until i got the ambassador game that fire emblem "clicked."  Before then, I'd play one or two levels and immediately get bored.  I decided to persist w/ sacred stones and actually beat it and really enjoyed it.  I, too, am looking forward to the 3DS version, though i'm most excited about easy mode where my guys dont die.  Call me a wuss, but having to reload levels all the time was NOT fun.  I'll play it normal mode my 2nd time through (if I even do that).

Edit: Nice silver surfer song!
:)

I echo James's sentiment regarding a Blast Corps 3DS remake. It's also one of the games I'd like to see them tackle on Game Center CX.

Tech Tip: One of the people on the podcast was in the left channel only. I don't know if this was an editing mistake or an audio defect, but in Audacity you can fix this by splitting the stereo track (there's a drop-down in the channel controls on the left side), copying the audio over, then rejoining the stereo tracks. Make sure to listen to the audio afterwards so you can tell if the left and right are in sync. This is also a good idea in general to fix stereo drift in audio and improve compressability.

This was noticed, but it was too far into the editing process to change at that point, so rather than being late we gave it to you as is. Glad you could enjoy the show regardless though! :D

A HD Blast Corps, or even a 3DS remake would be SO GOOD.
Online leaderboards, man - do want!

I remember it being called "Blast Dozer" here in Japan, if I end up buying a Jpse N64 that'd be one of the first games I'd buy. I regret giving my N64 and all the games to my brother now!

Looks like you guys are already onto the audio issue: I kept thinking my headphones were dying. :D

It was nice to finally learn what Golden Week actually is. Hopefully the Japanese will just keep tacking on new holidays, until it becomes Golden Month. I would so move to Japan just for that...

Also, I was surprised to hear Minoru praise KI that much. I haven't tried it myself, but his enthusiasm was certainly infectious!
