Episode 525: Purple Is the New Glitter
« on: June 04, 2017, 10:28:00 AM »

Due entirely to professional obligation, we delve into our annual sequence of blind guesses resulting in predictable failure.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/44747/episode-525-purple-is-the-new-glitter

We're days away from the start of E3 2017, and that means it's time for everyone's favorite Anti-Cassandras to, by popular demand, foretell a future that is guaranteed to not come true. Nintendo - being Nintendo - dropped news of their online service hours prior to recording. This caused all sorts of last-minute adjustments that ultimately signify nothing, because we wouldn't have been accurate anyway. Is 2017 the year Retro is finally ready to reveal their latest creation: Jerry West & Nitus: Texas Brisket Challenge? Are we going to see Animal Crossing Switch + Mobile ecosystem - heralds of the "Darkest Business?" Does Guillaume resort to running his predictions through Bingee? Yes. Yes. And surprisingly, no.

We transplant New Business to the post-break segment. Everybody got time with the ARMS Testpunch, but James and Greg lead the conversation. Jon got to spend some time with former-host Dr. Jonathan Metts, and talks about his time spent with cooperative voyeurism-simulator Star Fox Guard, and Switch indie game TumbleSeed. James wraps up New Business with a quick double-shot of Fire Emblem. First, he notes Intelligent Systems' brilliant play to take the sting out of the "Waifu Wars" pejorative, by producing an ACTUAL "Bridal Festival" event in Fire Emblem Heroes. He then offers very early impressions of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.

We'll be talking about our E3 plans in the next couple of days, so keep an eye out for those. In the meantime, you can send us emails via the inbox.

So when will we see a Fire Emblem game made entirely by Team Ninja? I presume they're only in a support role if that on FE Musou...

Hey, remember how I explained Sun and Moon's Slowdown and lack of 3D was due to the fact that they designed the Pokemon models in these games to have absurdly high poly counts for future proofing games?

https://youtu.be/9WBjk7mEY_0?t=46s This is Pokemon Sun/Moon running on the Citra emulator. 1080p, 60FpS. Unused Assets have been found in Suna nd Moon's code that further suggests scrapped assets that are WAY too detailed for 3DS.

With Pokemon themed nintendo direct announced for tomorrow, and with it being 8 minutes, we either HAVE to be getting Stars version, or we're getting some sort of Diamond and Pearl remake, because gamefreak has been teasing that.

Also, they might just make a 3DS game instead to troll us all. Nintendo's projections for 3DS sales are mighty high still...

Also, Sun and Moon ditched a lot of the second screen functionality (leaving it for just a map, the cluster-f known as Festival Plaza).

yeah, the HUGE step back that is the Festival plaza makes a LOT more sense when you consider you can fit it on one screen.

Thanks for reading my email, though I personally think you left out the best part, so I'll post it below:

Jon, if at all possible, get a photo of yourself arm wrestling with Reggie at E3. It may go viral, inspiring Nintendo to remake the Arm Wrestling arcade game that used the Punch-Out! characters. You could be the Lincoln Hawk of a new generation. Remember, it's "Winner Takes It All" and "Mind Over Matter."

-----------------------

Maybe I should have predicted a sequel to Disaster: Day of Crisis. Since the first game stole from "The Rock", perhaps the sequel could ripoff "Con-Air". Being the loose cannon that he is, Ray goes too far in the name of justice and through legal technicalities, winds up in jail. Maybe throw in a little from "The Shawshank Redemption" while we're at it.

Ray wil have to face crooked guards, kingpins, and rabid badgers and prarie dogs in order to escape, prove his innocence and once again, save the hot seismologist sister. It writes itself really. Monolithsoft can put the Xenoblade X engine to further good use.

How is Prime 4 not a big surprise?

What if Steve Hewitt were the prison warden in the Day of Crisis sequel? Ultimate betrayal?!

Jon kept comparing Tumbleseed to Marble Madness, but it was actually inspired by a Taito arcade game called Ice Cold Beer.

That Ice Cold Beer thing is kind of cool. I had no idea it existed
