Yooka Laylee and The Impossible Lair

It's basically a new Donkey Kong Country game, except you play as a Chameleon instead of an Ape.

I know right. I really enjoyed it much more than the 3D Yooka Laylee game. Of course I have nostalgia for the DKC games but did not play Rare's 3D stuff.

For the final level, the Impossible Lair which seems to be what is controversial about this game, I liked it for the most part.  I was getting frustrated because I'd keep getting to the end of the 2nd section, with only a few bee's left, and when I saw I was only about 50% done with it, thought the remainder would be just has hard if not harder, so I get replaying the 2nd section until I could finish it with at least over half of my bee's still on me.  Eventually I was able to beat the 2nd section with 26 Bee's still left, and then I finally did the rest of it and it turns out I didn't even need anywhere close to that many because the 2nd half of the Impossible Lair was much easier then the first half.  So I found that like 90% of the Impossible Lairs challenge is in the 2nd section because it had quite a few BS area's that are almost impossible to avoid damage, while the 1st, 3rd and 4th were pretty fair.

I think I remember something similar happening where I got stuck with the middle part but when finally beat the eponymous impossible lair I had plenty of bees. I was then able to beat it again after that and do even better. It suddenly seemed so easy. I thought that was clever design on the part of Playtonic.

Say, what are they up to now... ???

even more rumors that are mostly backing up previous rumors

https://www.bilibili.com/opus/925030436838572049

Summary:
1. The Bluetooth chip of Switch 2 still supports existing Joy-Con and Pro controllers, and still features HD vibration (ALPS dual-axis linear motor).
2. Switch 2 has backwards compatibility with Switch 1 cartridges, but Switch 2 cartridges will be different and won't fit on a Switch 1.
3. The new joycons are larger and are magnetically attached to the console with an electromagnet. The SL and SR buttons are metallic now, and there's a new button on the back of each joycon just below the SL & SR buttons, and a new button below the home button on the front of the right joycon
4. The dock still has an USB-C port and will also support 4K image output.
5. The new kickstand also has a damping bracket on the back for improved angle adjustment.
6. The screen is bigger, up to 8 inches and the resolution is upgraded to 1080p.

Yooka Laylee and The Impossible Lair

So I must have been really tired when I first played this years ago because this game was pretty awesome.  It's basically a new Donkey Kong Country game, except you play as a Chameleon instead of an Ape.  Even the first few levels that I said bored me to sleep, were actually pretty fun when replayed and levels kept getting better as I went on.

I am curious to hear your thoughts after you finish the final level.

I was disappointed that the reward for collecting all the medals in each level just unlocks a pointless 4th Tonic slot.  Collecting things like that are what would unlock the hidden levels in DKC 2 and 3.  Feels like such a downgrade to not offer some final hidden level for collecting all of them.

And more news.... Regarding chips and manufacturing

https://www.mk.co.kr/en/business/10999040

Basically, Samsung manufacturing the chips on a 7nm process, providing high speed high capacity memory chips and (OLED?) displays.
Tegra T239 is supposedly gonna be manufactured by Samsung on that 7nm production line.

New rumors. New Switch 2 Details leaked

https://vandal.elespanol.com/noticia/1350770848/exclusiva-switch-2-conocemos-en-primicia-nuevos-detalles-de-la-proxima-consola-de-nintendo/

Translation:

Even though there hasn't been an official announcement from Nintendo themselves, we've been hearing rumors and leaks for a long time about Switch 2, the upcoming successor to the Nintendo Switch. Speculation grew at the end of last year, when Gamescom attendees claimed to have seen the new Nintendo console behind closed doors.

Today at Vandal we can share some exclusive details about the upcoming hardware from the Japanese company after hearing non-official information from manufactures that have had a first contact with Switch 2. Our colleague Rubén Mercado has been the one that has had access to these exclusive details during an accessory manufacturer fair, the same way it happened during the pre-launch period of Nintendo Switch OLED.

Some manufacturers have been able to "touch" the new Nintendo console, without the possibility of actually seeing it to avoid leaks. There are no concrete dates for its release, but they all agree that it won't release this year, even though the console is ready. This is just a strategic decision to have a better lineup, and they expect this Christmas period to be the last one for Switch, and Switch 2 to release Early 2025.

The information we've managed to get says the console is a bit bigger than the current Switch models, but still smaller than a Steam Deck. Another change is on the joy-con side, which will trade their current attachment system using rails for a magnetic system.
Quote
As of right now we don't have information on the specs of the console itself, but what we can confirm is that the current Pro Controller will be forwards compatible with Switch 2. However, it's possible that the current joycons won't be, whether for the change on how they attach to the console or if they have new functionalities.

Summary:
- Accessory manufacturers have been able to touch the console but not see it.
- Every manufacturer agrees the console won't release this year and will release Early 2025.
- A bit bigger than the current Switch models but nowhere close to the Steam Deck's size.
- Joy-cons will change their attachment system from rails to a magnetic system, and the current ones won't be forwards compatible.
- The current Pro Controller will work on Switch 2.

Edit: (added translations)

But my take on this is that new joycons won't have the mechanical click anymore, as those probably have a high fail rate after repeated use. Instead you will likely slide the joycons on the track still, but it's held magnetically so it doesn't slide around. Also glad that my Pro will hopefully still be good, as I don't want to buy another to replace it, when I can buy a 2nd so I now have 2 that work instead :)

I'm also ok with the Switch taking on a larger/thicker form factor, because I honestly don't know who is trying to carry it in their pocket. Everyone got a bag/sling, backpack, or a carrying case of some sort to travel with, if they even happen to travel with it. Let's go with tech improvements over smallest possible form factor. push the envelope on the affordable portable form.

Rumor has it that Nintendo will be stock piling units, as they had originally planned for launching end of this year, but are now pushing for end of Q1 or sometime Q2 next year for launch instead, which will help them pad out the launch library a little more as well.
