Nintendo Gaming / Have the Gamecube SD cards been confirmed a no-go?
« on: February 23, 2003, 08:38:45 PM »
It's still on the Nintendo site but I highly doubt anythign is going to happen with it.  Maybe the next console but not with the GC.

It's too costly and to me much more of a gimmick than anything else.   Sure the possibilities are out there but for the normal gamer they wouldn't really make use of it.

Theres already the GBA-GC link up and hten the GBA player to work with.  They need to vastly improve the GBA-GC link capabilities right now... its pretty worthless at the moment.  Sure there are some games that make some weak attempts but still not great.  I would really love somethign where I could continue the game some way on the go.   Furthermore, too many gimmicks already making it seem like a toy.

Here is what I think that Nintendo should do to cover the cost of online gaming:

Charge $10 extra for online gaming. People will still buy the game at $60.
Profits from online accesories (modems, wave keyboard, wave headset, etc.)

Er, XBL is not peer-to-peer.  It uses the XBL servers supportd by Microsoft.

You guys are naming games that are lag free from 56k that are not hosted by another.  When you connect to battle.net for example, you are connected to Blizzard battle.net servers.  They are not being hosted by another individual.   Furthermore, YOU the 56k gamer might not notice lag but the person on broadband could potentially suffer horribly.

Have you ever played Starcraft with 8 players on battle.net with a modem?  I guarantee you that you will lag broadband users.  Try hosting an 8 player game with a modem... that would be even worse...

Phantasy Star online is again hosted by Sega servers.  Hence the $10 subscription per month.  The lag is virtually non-existant since its not peer to peer and does not really affect another player.

I really do hope Nintendo follows Microsoft in setting up dedicated servers with a subscription program with the $50 a year price tag like the X-Box.  Hopefully they dont do the meager P2P method as the PS2... its already been shown to be pretty unusucessful....

Gping to 2.4ghz would not be so bad for the GC and could possibly be even better.

It is true that higher frequencies don't travel as well through objects but its not like you're going to be playing your GC through walls or anything.

When playing, you have direct line of sight and nothing will be blocking you.. well maybe a table or a stupid friend, but those would not really make a difference.

I hope they offer both a 900mhz and 2.4ghz version so it would allow the gamer to choose whichever suits their needs better (meaning they could avoid interference from other objects using the same frequencies)

I seriously doubt it. XBL is blowing away the PS2's online community. The GC won't be able to do better.

Oh but it is.

I don't see how the GC online could possibly be any better.  Since XBL is broadband only it cuts out A LOT of the work from removing lag (although no matter what, still semi-existant), and since its subscription based with X-Box server it allows much more stability, ease of use, and the ability to play with anyone.

With the GC we already see there are regular 56k modem adapters out.  If they choose to do peer to peer networking, that would be quite a downer.  I can only imagine the lag, and the unfreindliness of using online games.   Theres a reason why XBL is so much better then PS2 online... it's because its subscription based and Microsoft backed.    GC has to do the same thing if it actually wants results, but I highly doubt they will.  It's too expensive and too risky for them.

I'm expecting free peer to peer networking.  It is fact that Nintendo GC owners are a lot younger overall than the other systems.. that would make it less likely that they would have broadband and be the ones footing the bill for it.   It just makes sense for them business wise.  Sure it will be a nice extra feature nevertheless, but it isn't going to be all great if its not subscriptions based.   I'm not expecting much, but I can hope...

20?  Age 20?   Damn, you make me feel old saying you would probably stop then.  (I'm age 20).

I hope to be playing video games until I'm a damn grandpa.    Just not quite as much.  Hehe.

Nintendo Gaming / Miyamoto interview! Heaps of news!
« on: February 21, 2003, 09:33:37 PM »
EA is mainly the publisher of games... not really the developers.  They are freakin gigantic with tons of money.. it'll be good.  Maybe they can help get upstarting or lesser known companies going.  They advertise a lot also...

Good thing EA published console games are a lot better than their PC published games which are usually rushed, buggy, and completely unoptimized POS.

They said Mario Kart didn't get a fair share of resources.    I really do hope its online w/ more tracks and possibly some more items... thats all I really want.  Can't make a great game much better.

Surfing the internet on the TV is absolutely killer on the eyes!   Hell no, that woud be a worthless feature that will make everyone go blind.  Why do you think text in games are so much more huge?

They need to keep it efficient and lag free... doesn't look very possible w/ regular 56k modems out there....

Nintendo Gaming / January Console/Game Sales
« on: February 19, 2003, 01:41:39 PM »
It was January.  What great games came out for the Gamecube?   None I believe, so I don't see why peopel would want to buy a GC at that time.

And then the informed people waited till February for the free game deal.

Take sales number for one specific month... say March when Zelda comes out and we'll see how the numbers go.

Nintendo Gaming / Skies of Arcadia Legends = Great Game

Man, I dunno...

I'm not to appealed by this game but I've been longing for an RPG.

The main character looks pretty lame to me, and sky pirates?  bleh.  I keep hearing good things about this, got plenty of pretty good reviews also.  But I just can't force myself to buy on gameplay alone.. the look of it just turns me away.

NWR Feedback / Any possibility of a "For Sale / For Trade" Forum?
« on: February 07, 2003, 05:57:45 PM »
I think it would be an instant hit, as a bunch of us should have Gamecube or Gameboy games that we would like to trade or sell.

Of course theres a chance of fraud always, but I don't think PGC would be legally binded in any way.  We could always use heatware (heatware.com) and ebay references.  Lots of us frequent other boards with for sale / for trade forums, but this PGC forum would be much easier as there would be a bunch more games out there.

What do you guys think?  Thanks.
