General Chat / Samsung's Android dominance
« on: October 11, 2013, 10:40:06 AM »
Does Samsung's Android dominance mean that every other manufacturer (HTC, Sony, LG) should just give up?

Nintendo Gaming / Retailers clearing Wii U stock (massive price cuts)
« on: September 25, 2013, 11:45:57 PM »
Is the Wii U being discontinued? :(

GoNintendo keeps posting articles about UK retailers discounting the Wii U to clear stock, and some of them have reduced their Nintendo inventory in favor of the Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

General Chat / So Monster is making tablets now?
« on: September 22, 2013, 06:17:22 PM »
Monster is selling their new M7 at Walmart right now (a 10" version is coming soon). For $150, you get 16GB storage (with a microSD slot), an 1280x800 IPS screen, GPS functionality, dual cameras, and a textured back plate. So basically it's the same thing as the ASUS Memo Pad HD, which I'm also interested in.

Should I give it a shot? I can't afford a $200+ tablet right now, and I need something with at least 16GB storage, a good screen, decent specs (etc.). I don't care about hacking or rooting, so 8GB+SD card won't do anything for me.

General Chat / Microsoft bought Nokia!
« on: September 03, 2013, 04:42:30 AM »
Microsoft just announced that they bought Nokia's phone and hardware division.

This is very good news for both companies, as Nokia will now get a huge cash influx to survive, and Microsoft will have a reliable hardware partner to exclusively produce new mobile devices.

INTRODUCING "MIGHTY NO. 9"

Currently it's only for PC via Steam (with gamepad support), but if stretch goals are met, the team will create versions for home consoles (Wii U?) as well.

Nintendo Gaming / My thoughts on the 2DS...
« on: August 29, 2013, 10:41:24 AM »
I actually like the idea behind the 2DS. I can't see the 3D effect anyways, and I hate using parental controls just to disable it. The design of the system looks more comfortable than the original 3DS, and the lack of a hinge means it will be more durable. My current 3DS has a cracked hinge, so this is a perfect replacement.

And the $120 price is a great value.

Nintendo Gaming / Question about the 3DS "system transfer"...

Does the system friend code get transferred along with the friend list?

General Chat / So Google cut the Nexus 4 price...
« on: August 28, 2013, 11:55:44 AM »
It's now $200 (8GB) and $250 (16GB). No 32GB version, unfortunately.

So is the Nexus 4 worth it?

I'm looking for active players who have those games. I'm 28, and I only add people who are 19+.

My friend code is 4012-4288-6002. Message me or reply here if you add me! :)

My girlfriend thinks I play Animal Crossing: New Leaf too much, so she made me delete the game from my 3DS a few weeks ago.

I just re-bought the game today on the Nintendo eShop, and she threw a fit.

General Gaming / Why does GTA 4 look like ****?
« on: August 20, 2013, 12:31:57 PM »
After seeing the new GTA 5 trailers (which looks amazing), I'm reminded of how horrible GTA 4 looks. GTA 4 is blurry, with jaggies everywhere and an inconsistent frame-rate. Granted, I have the PS3 version, so I have no idea what the PC version is like.

General Gaming / Saints Row: From Gangsta to WTF?
« on: August 10, 2013, 10:56:01 AM »
I don't get what happened to this series. It used to be a competent GTA clone about the gangsta life (basically San Andreas in HD). Then the folks at Volition took some huge hits of LSD and turned the game into a cartoony over-the-top chaotic mess with SR3 and SR4.

WTF happened between SR2 and SR3 to warrant such a huge shift in tone?

My name is Anthony. I'm looking for more 3DS friends who love Swapnote (whether drawing, writing notes, etc.).

My friend code is 4597-0176-3500.

Also, I'm 28, and I'd prefer to only add people who are 19 and up.

Nintendo Gaming / AC New Leaf: Approval rating stuck!
« on: July 23, 2013, 12:24:50 PM »
I restarted my game and am in the process of raising my approval rating, which is currently stuck at 52 percent. I've watered flowers, helped citizens, changed the town flag & tune, sold items at Re-Tail, etc. Nothing happens.
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!

My 3DS code is 4597-0176-3500, and my name is Anthony.

I've never played DOA before. How does it play compared to Virtua Fighter and Tekken?

Nintendo Gaming / No one plays Animal Crossing online?
« on: June 13, 2013, 11:18:14 PM »
I just got New Leaf a couple days ago. I finished moving in, bought my first house, and settled in the town. I went to the train station to set up online connectivity, and no one is online. I've tried doing this on multiple occasions; no one comes to visit my town, and no towns are listed that I can travel to.

Mario has been traveling through the Mushroom Kingdom for over 25 years, but each trek is different than the last. Shouldn't Mario be familiar with all the levels and worlds by now?

Nintendo Gaming / Should Nintendo embrace "free to play"?
« on: April 17, 2013, 09:48:53 AM »
By which I mean with optional DLC purchases.

Sony is pushing for more "free to play" games on the PS3 and PS4, and this business model is very popular on iOS and Android. Nintendo could easily garner more interest in their consoles by going this route, since it lowers the barrier of entry for people who can't afford full-priced games.

Is that a reference to Dr. Ryuta Kawashima (creator of Brain Age), or is it a reference to Andross from StarFox?

Nintendo Gaming / Smash Bros. Brawl controller lag (playing offline)?
« on: February 03, 2013, 06:44:56 PM »
I've been playing Smash Bros. Brawl lately, and I noticed quite a bit of controller lag while navigating the menus and during matches. I only play OFFLINE, so it has nothing to do with Nintendo's online servers.

The lag mainly occurs when I'm holding down a button. The character will do this jerky "start-stop-start" movement. Sometimes I get a "double press" when tapping a button on the menu screen. This happens with both of my Wii Remotes.

The lag never occurs in any other Wii game I played.

General Chat / Favorite modern cartoonist?
« on: January 02, 2013, 10:36:40 PM »
Butch Hartman (Fairly Oddparents, Danny Phantom, T.U.F.F. Puppy)
I love Butch Hartman's cartoons. His sense of humor is very reminiscent of Chuck Jones, and his art style is very unique.

Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack)
He is brilliant. Samurai Jack was the best cartoon ever made, with an incredibly unique art style and amazing animation. It's a shame he hasn't been doing much lately. Was Hotel Transylvania any good? EDIT: Hotel Transylvania was amazing. I never thought of Sony Pictures Animation as a respectable studio (all because of that wreck that was Open Season), but they did a great job with this movie. Are they the next DreamWorks?

Craig McCracken (Powerpuff Girls, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends)
He made a show about butt-kicking girls cool. And Foster's is a very weird and funny cartoon.

John Kricfalusci (Ren & Stimpy, George Liquor)
He is a very outspoken critic of modern cartoons, and a collector of classic animation memorabilia. He was one of the first cartoonists to extensively use Flash, and he makes webtoons occasionally. His sense of humor borders on the bizarre, almost like an extreme version of Tex Avery, but his art style and sense of comic timing is unmatched.

Nintendo Gaming / NSMB U director says level editor is possible!
« on: December 27, 2012, 10:38:11 PM »
I found this on GoNintendo.

Quote from: Masataka Takemoto
“I think the Coin Edit feature in Coin Battle is a step closer to that. There is a possibility of this happening in the future, but there’s no use just blindly making that feature available. We would need to carefully think about how to make such a system work. The important thing is that it has to be something that is uniquely Nintendo. Where a beginner can easily make something and have a good time, and simultaneously, someone who is really into Mario can delve into it deeper and make something more complex. So that is a challenge we will need to tackle in the future.” - Masataka Takemoto, director

What's wrong with just cramming a level editor in the game for people to tinker with? It worked with the Mario vs DK games for the DS.

When I knew the Wii U's GamePad would feature a giant touchscreen, a Mario game with a level editor was the first thing I thought of.
