Not exactly, if positive word of mouth spreads via the people who bought the game (like us), then the game has a chance. On the other hand, Nintendo's whiny fanbase are too strung up over the (valid) fact that Ubi has given us nothing but crap these past couple of years despite a good (READ: good, not great) game here and there.

Face it, we can't win.

Perhaps Red Steel 2 isn't selling so well because people bought Red Steel, thought it sucked, and decided to stay far away from the sequel.  I was shocked that the sequel was such a critical success.  Isn't it normal to assume that a crap game will have a crap sequel?  Sequels are considered safe bets but it's got to be a strong brand to begin with.  I question the logic is making sequels to games that are not considered very good.  You've already made a bad first impression.

Red Steel was a case where where the game had good concepts and ideas, just with flawed execution of them.

The first one launched with 30k and the second with 60k. so they're building a fanbase for them if nothing else.

The decision to make a sequel was probably spurred on by the fact the original Red Steel did sell very well. It was a launch title, and back then people didn't realize the Wii was the non-gamer system that 3rd parties liked to use as a toilet. Now, that reputation is pretty firmly entrenched and people who cared about real games have moved onto other systems.

I agree the reason RS2 is failing is because of the bad rep 3rd parties have already made for themselves on the system. When they make a quality title it will get ignored, because no one expects it or is looking for it anymore.

But you shouldn't be shocked that RS2 is a quality title, because Ubisoft did specifically say they were taking their time with it and did intend to get it right. Of course, people and companies do lie, but it wasn't like they didn't try to convince us this game would be done right.

All that said, I do intend to get RS2 myself at some point, but I'm just waiting for the price to fall. I realize that means I'm part of the problem, but I'm not wealthy and don't have money to just grab games full priced at launch.

Doesn't RS2 make use of motion+? That wasn't something even available for RS1 to include at the time, so RS2 is guaranteed to be a better game just for including that because the original didn't.

Better late than never, I suppose. I'm really depressed though, because I fear this may be the last serious hardcore 3rd party Wii game the rest of this generation. By now we should be up to our waist in games like this, but it took all these years just to get one single worthwhile game and I don't think anymore are lurking out over the horizon. It is possible some will be announced at E3, but now that Sony has its own motion thing, I'm really afraid that everything is going to go to that...

Why is everyone saying RS2 failed already? Where are we getting these numbers from? Didn't the game just come out like a week from tuesday(9-10 days ago)? NPD isn't till next week so what is this "number" everyone is basing their comments off of and where is it coming from?

On the bright side, I did see two adverts for Red Steel 2 yesterday, and it showed what needed to be showed. Trouble is, I have yet to find it for a deal better than £39.99 (I could get it without MotionPlus for £29.99, but that would be pointless).

I've also seen some commercials for RS2, so if the game does fail then that's a really bad thing. In the past we had games fail, but we could always say the company didn't advertise enough, or that the game was too short/incomplete, or that it was just an on-rails piece of ****. None of that is the case this time. Now we have a real litmus test on whether mature hardcore games have a place on the Wii.

I saw a television commercial for MadWorld, so it was advertised too. Not sure of the extent of it, though.

I see the Red Steel commercial all the time... or atleast I did last week.

I found it funny when they were touting the accuracy of the sword to your movements and then it was slightly off and delayed. I think they could have edited that part to reflect the game better in the commercial even if it's kinda like that in the game.

Now that I have satellite again, I see a lot of game commercials (i've seen Red Steel commercials like 30 times in the last two weeks). Game companies don't really advertise on over the air networks that much.

NinGurl, are you talking about the UK chart or Japanese chart? The game has not been announced for Japan yet, so it wouldn't be on that chart.

If this game is as good as I hear then word of mouth should also be a strong factor.

I won't say what I really want about you right now, I will merely state that I didn't know if you knew that the game wasn't out in Japan; I was just letting you know.
