Recession hit everyone HARD, even software sales are bad. DSi was a saving grace for Nintendo.

The software sales aren't "bad," they're just not assaulted by Smash and Kart. Compare it to April 2007 or even April 2002/2003.

Attention Sony: Drop your freaking $400 system's price and maybe it won't be outsold by an 8 year old system that no longer gets any major releases, and maybe you won't be in third place in most of the world.

Six games published by Nintendo finished in the top 10 best-sellers of April, including the top four games of the month. These include Wii Fit™ at No. 1 with more than 470,000 sold, Pokémon™ Platinum Version at No. 2 with more than 432,000 sold, Mario Kart™ Wii at No. 3 with more than 209,000 sold, Wii Play™ at No. 4 with nearly 170,000 sold, New Super Mario Bros.™ at No. 7 with nearly 119,000 sold and Mario Kart™ DS at No. 8 with more than 112,000 sold.

Unlike obscure non-hype Nintendo software like ExciteButts, DSi got a massive marketing push. TV ads AND movie theaters. I saw two DSi ads just before Logan's Naked Run Through a Canadian Farm After Getting Adamamanantaatium Probed.

Reggie said there was no need for the DSi yet since the DS Lite was still selling something like 600K every month. The DSi wouldn't have come out at all if it sales hadn't slowed in Japan. I think Iwata probably forced Reggie to launch the DSi last month rather than this Fall like Reggie originally wanted.

He was kinda right, because DS sales haven't slowed in the U.S. yet. In Japan the revision really was needed and it came at the best time, because the PSP was starting to kick ass and it needed to be stopped.

Yeah but the DSi is selling amazingly well and have boosted sales all around for DS, hence the record breaking sales for April
