Saw VII - I despised Saw VI, and view it as one of the most despicable movies I have ever seen. I always meant to get into it here, but I never got around to it. Simply put, it's a torture porn movie that has the unmitigated gall to be "about something", namely a heavy criticism/indictment of the medical insurance industry. Because a movie franchise that glorifies the many different ways to slowly kill someone has the right to do that. Saw VII is not as disgustingly offensive, but it is definitely disgusting and devoid of the few redeeming qualities the first few installments had. To be honest, I don't know why I watched this movie. Maybe I just wanted to give it some closure, but this is a hard movie to watch. It's so gory that watching it made me feel physically ill, so I just took to seeing the setup for the various traps and then skipping ahead to their resolution rather than watch them. The plot is incredibly convoluted, but this is a Saw movie so that should come as no surprise. And personally, I don't understand Jigsaw's beef with the main character of the movie: regardless of the truth, he was spreading Jigsaw's message. And unlike most Saw protagonists, he actually makes an attempt to save the other victims.
Overall, a pitiful and sad end to what early on promised to be an interesting horror franchise. Hopefully, it will indeed be the end of it.
