I bought The Little Mermaid and Inglorious Basterds on Blu Ray. I also bought a tin The Little Mermaid lunch box as well because it was discounted with the purchase of the Blu Ray. Being a four year old girl with an adult's bank account is finally paying off.

Inglorious Basterds aren't THAT kiddy. It's adolescent, yes, like most Tarantino movies.

Inglorious Basterds is one of my favorite movies. Anyway...

Machete - 6/10

I've had this DVD for years, never got around to watching it. Meh. There were some funny scenes and lots of creative gore, but the story was pretty weak (how did he survive in the opening scene?). Bonus points for the nudity though.

So who's the better director? Guellermo del Toro, Robert Rodrigues, or Quentin Tarantino?

Tough question. The answer is John Carpenter.

John Carpenter allegedly directed "Pro-Life" which is one of the stupidest thing I've ever seen in my life.

Filth. This is, by some mile, the most fucked up film of 2013.

And this is NOT a horror. Absolutely worth watching. Warning: trailer is NSFW. Or the train. Or anywhere in public.

WATCH GRAVITY
THIS.

Stunningly beautiful long cuts with amazing 360 camera work which is an almost completely forgotten art. Some liberties are taken with the science, but it's still pretty hard on the science scale. It really won't have worked otherwise.

It's could have done without the music. For a movie like this it was distracting.

There was one bit I outright hated because it was fucking stupid compared to how relatively smarter the rest of the movie is. I won't post it right now because WATCH GRAVITY.

A near perfect movie Johnny's space chat.

Buzz approves GRAVITY, watch it or get punched. Side note, for the love of all that is sane, don't read the comments.

For those who have watched it, and excellent behind the scenes look. Will contain spoilers.

Rush - More of a character study than a traditional sports film, I really enjoyed Howard's latest. I have admired  Brühl's work since Goodbye Lenin (a great film by the way) and thought he was fantastic in Inglorious Basterds, but I actually think this might be his best role yet. Hemsworth also does well as the likeable rogue, but as with their real life counterparts it's the duality of the two very different actors which make it such a fascinating watch.

Senna - This film has been on my 'Must Watch' list for years but I just never got around to it. Having enjoyed Rush so much, however, I began to feel guilty for having never watched this highly regarded documentary based on F1 Driver Ayrton Senna.

I was not at all familiar with the man's life, those that are might have a different experience, but I was absolutely blown away by this film. I will not go into specifics for those that wish to watch the documentary fresh as I did, but I was particularly intrigued by certain questions the film raised about nationalism and it's ability to include and exclude, and the importance of national heroes.

Highly recommended.

Undefeated - Again, this was a documentary that I had been meaning to watch for quite some time, but I always seem to find it more difficult to make time for documentaries than I do for Movies or TV. In any case, I managed to catch this on TV just a few hours ago and thought it was engrossing.

As with Rush and Senna, the topic itself (in this case Football of the American kind) was of no interest to me. Having said that, I found myself being carried away by the story of an underdog Football team, a team in every way affected by the school's history and the socioeconomic circumstances of the area.

There were, however, certain segments of the film in which I felt the presence of the camera more than I would have liked. On more than one occasion I had considerable doubts that the reactions and statements from those participating in the film would have been the same had the camera not been on them at that moment. To a certain extent that is unavoidable, but in those moments (which tended to be highly dramaticised) I began to consider how this documentary had been constructed rather than focusing on the people themselves, which is never a good sign.

It is, however, a story with plenty of heart and some genuinely admirable people that is well worth watching.

Runner Runner - This film (like the trailer tells you) says that a guy who is struggling to pay his university fees gambles all his money away. All $17,000.

Then, despite that, he flies to Costa Rica to try to get it back. I thought he just gambled all his money away?

He actually says "all my savings". And on screen you see him transfer it all into the gambling account.

The entire rest of the film is hinged on that, and shouldn't have worked. Don't watch.

The Warriors (the first half)... What?  This movie is supposed to be a highly regarded film... and I fell asleep about halfway through.  I don't get it.  Should I go back and watch the second half, or, if I didn't get it by the halfway point, is it just not for me?

Well then, at least it's not just me.

After watching it (I did read a plot synopsis later, I made it through much more than half the move...), it's weird to see all this stuff that has been referenced in other media that I never knew the origin of until now.
