I wasn't referring to SJP's looks at all (because i wouldn't look twice). I was referring to how all of her roles involve "dainty" by some degree. Whereas Helen Mirren can be firing machine guns and can make assassinating someone look strangely sexy.

I use to think SJP was hot in Hocus Pocus until I saw it again recently. It's the best example of the group effect. She only seemed cute because her boobs were popping out a boustiea and she was surrounded by the other two ugly witches.

But here is what she looks like from the head up.

yeah...she'd make a handsome man haaha

I didn't know Thora Birch was the little girl in Hocus Pocus until a couple years ago. She was pretty amazing as Enid in Ghost World, one of my favorite films and much better than the graphic novel.

I thought the same thing about Sarah Jessica Parker in Hocus Pocus which I saw again a few years ago then promptly changed my mind. And good God, Lemon... SJP is annoying as shiz in that movie...

I went to the movies for the first time in almost a decade just to see Skyfall. Would not and could not wait till that one came out on DVD.

Loved the opening sequence before the opening title credits (which were also something I loved).

The main villain reminded me a bit of The Joker in The Dark Knight with regard to how things rolled out.

The way the movie came together at the end made me really giddy as a Bond fan.

I don't want to say any more. I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone.

My rating is for you guys to go see it. :)

They were talking about it on the radio this morning.

Said it was one of if not the BEST Bond movie yet and that Daniel Craig signed on for 2 more.

Also mentioned that the audience was applauding the movie after just the opening sequence.
I can't wait till my next movie day.... so many weeks away still at this point.

speaking of which....

My Movie day from last weekend: quick reviews

Flight:
Good movie. Flight section contained lots of tense dramatic action. There was some good humor in there too. But Denzel always sucking on his bottom lip in a weird way bothers me to this day. Fortunately John Goodman busts in and makes you forget all about it ;)

Man with the Iron Fist:
Go into this with the expectations of an old-school late 70's/early 80's kung-fu action flick with actual special effects and you might enjoy this obviously niche movie aimed at a very specific audience. Rza was not the best fit for his role as he didn't quite sell the pain and anger associated with his character. so if there is a sequel, hopefully someone else directs (and acts).
p.s. Bronze Lion looks like an asian Brad Pitt, and the head of the Gemini looks like an asian Jimmy Smits. There was even a super skinny asian Dolph Lundgren in there too.

Argo:
Another good movie. I went in thinking it was going to be kinda boring, but it wasn't. The fact that  it was based on a true story made it just that much better. I can't say that it had me on the edge of my seat, but i was definitely into the movie. one of the better ones of the day.

Pitch Perfect:
Not as bad as you think, not as good as I hoped. The male lead had a perfect amount of sarcasm where I couldn't tell if his character was for or against anything he comments against/for. Fat Amy was amusing at times. Song selection could have been better. basically this was no Sister Act, but it was watchable, and there will probably be a sequel.
p.s. my girl picked this one, and it was the last weekend it was playing, so I agreed to sit in.

Overall I would rate it:
Flight
Argo
Iron Fist/Pitch Perfect

I wanted to slide in Sinister or Silent Hill, but the schedule just wouldn't allow it.

I wouldn't call it the best Bond movie by any stretch of the imagination. It's not even the best Daniel Craig Bond, imo -- Casino Royale still takes that crown.

I'm always partial to Goldfinger, GoldenEye, and Dr. No. :)

Skyfall is pretty mediocre.

Pretty much the only thing saving it is fanservice: Moneypenny, car, new M's room in the end

I wouldn't recommend it.

I did, when I was a kid I developed a crush on her first time I watched Hocus Pocus and followed her ever since. I also loved Ghost World it is one of my top ten favorite movies, largely thanks to Miss Birch, but also for being an amazing movie.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

I think the complete bullshit involving the crane operators at the end of the movie is the perfect personification of the movie as a whole. Very hollow, very unearned, and very redundant. Raimi did this **** infinitely better.

You're probably right about the Group Effect. By comparison she looks better. On the other hand she is meatier then she is in every other role. She is normally super thin, and she usually looks like one of the witches from the Evil Dead series. Poor Mathew Broderick, in an alternate universe he never married her, and he is the highest paid A-list actor in Hollywood.

Goats-This movie takes place in Tucson, which is weird because im in Tucson, and to some extant am from Tucson. Its always weird when they portray the place you live, and its some weird warped perspective. Then again I also don't live out in the boonies. This is an unusual movie because it ultimately seems pointless, though i got the point(its not a sharp point) The characters are more Sedonan than Tucsonan, but this is still a hippy town. Overall, I enjoyed the movie. My hometown is Yuma though, so if there's ever a movie to take place in modern Yuma, I could critique the **** out of it.

Anyone have a suggestion for the most visually stunning movie? I'm talking about real life and no CGI. I want to test out a new TV and my phone.

Right now I'm thinking about Planet Earth or Blue Planet or Life or some **** like that.

That's because there was no CGI back in the 1960's. :)

Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The animated characters were all hand-drawn frame-by-frame and composited over the live scenes. Ah, the good old days when animation wasn't ruined by Flash.

I think those all these documentaries are chock full of CGI. They're still gorgeous.

About visually stunning movies with little to no CGI, look into Tarsem Singh's movies: The Cell and The Fall.

As to animated movies, look for Don Bluth's Secret Of NIMH (pretty amazing lightning and colouring there).

Looper 8/10

I have a nicer pocket watch. ;)

This is a good movie with an interesting concept. It's also concise in its storytelling so even the slow scenes still have weight because you are learning something new about the plot. Speaking of which, the plot is great if a tad predictable. My only problem with the movie is that there are far more interesting stories to tell. But maybe that's left alone for a sequel.

I really like how in recent years we have steady flow of hard sci fi movies.

District 9, Source Code, Moon were all brilliant.

Maybe I'm just stupid, but I never once knew where that movie was going, let alone who I was rooting for. It totally shifts gears each act!

I think the ending was a mistake, I would not have done Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character did. And I hate how the director left the movie ending with it not really resolved since there is nothing stopping the events from happening anyways.

I remember the discussion, and why I saw it as not resolved because the events that led to the situation could still happen.
