I just played my first boss and holy smokes! That had to be the most fun boss I've played from any Zelda game. Nothing in the last few games came close to that by far it was that exciting! I'm going to assume I played one of the coolest ones first and will mentally prepare myself for encounters that won't be so exciting.

16ish hours in and I am having such a good time. I did one major play through of BotW. Over 355 hours before I was done. I played ever so often to help my kids with their play throughs but that was years ago so the old landscape feels entirely new to me. The new stuff is like GADZOOKS what am I playing?! and I've only been to 3 parts of the OG map! Maybe 2 in the sky!

You are hyping me up Luigi Dude. I mean for real! I've listened to the previews from a few outlets but I've barely looked at all the new footage aside from the last big trailer and the commercials recently released. These comments that I am reading just seem too dog on good.

Just Luigi Dude's comment above... Botw was already huge, I'm thinking with the sky and underground how much more are we talking? It excites me but I'm still keeping my imagination and expectations reserved.

When Wind Waker hit, that Great Sea really excited me. Finding new islands and civilizations across the huge ocean seemed like such a great new way to explore. The idea of seeing a new grand island over the horizon seemed like we were in for something special. And to a point the game is special and is held in high regard for me personally. Though it was with this game I realized Nintendo wasn't going to build a Zelda world to the scale that I expected.

There was like 3 maybe 4 islands tops that actually held lived in ecosystems and populations. Tiny islands everywhere, only one island actually felt like people really lived there and just the over all scale was so tiny it was a let down.

Twilight Princess didn't do much more for me in that regard and Skyward Sword was even worse. Loved the way the games played for the most part and always loved solving puzzles but the games were so small scale it just felt like Zelda had been left in the past.

Now after Botw it feels like the Zelda team as gotten on with the times and those WW through SS memories feel like they will be left in a far gone era.

Top selling since 2019? Did I read right? I guess that makes sense. Nintendo really seems to have found a solid footing. I hope this keeps up.

Kirby did really well and thank goodness. I thought the game was pretty fun, the trailers hyped me more than the actual game but over all it was a huge step in the direction I've been begging for for years.

I'm ready for Kirby to have his running, jumping and flight speed adjusted and big ol' sand boxes to explore with all those super awesome Mouth Full and traditional power ups. The linear nature of these stages felt a little too close to the traditional Kirby side scrollers.

I do think that people are vastly overestimating the existence and depth of caves, as we have seen brief references and hints at subterranean areas but nowhere near the extent or importance of the sky-focused content. Now, admittedly, we haven’t seen much of the actual masses in the sky and that could be used as an excuse for the lack of information about caves, but if there were going to be grandiose underground caverns or even intricate networks, I feel as if the developers would prioritize telegraphing that element to us in the promotional material.

The fact remains that we’re going into the close months leading up to launch and it still feels like we know very little, which I honestly prefer. A major part of Breath of the Wild was discovery and not knowing what to expect from this game adds to its overall mystique.

Judging by Aonuma's words, I think a decently meaty underground is in store for us. However his little comments about exploring the sky and an expanded world really don't mean much at the moment. It's the initial story trailer that leads me to believe we will have more underground caverns and such.

When looking at our very first teaser/trailer of Breath of the Wild we saw Link and horse just idle in a massive field and then all of a sudden a giant Gardian comes around destroying everything. Link jumps off the horse in super cinematic bullet time fashion and shoots an ancient arrow. At first glance it seemed like yeah that was just a fancy in engine(or maybe cgi) concept of what the game may or could look like. When I really think about it however the only thing in the final game not found in that trailer were the Shieka locals farming or gathering. That trailer gave us relatively honest gameplay hints. Big world to explore, giant robots would chase you down and there is indeed a bullet time mechanic when you pull out the bow.

It all looked too cool to be true but it was very evocative of actual gameplay.

Fast forward to our first look at Tears of the Kingdom and looks to me the same thing is happening. We are given a very story heavy look at the game. Zelda and Link exploring a fairly well lit dungeon/cavern. A big ceiling worm to fight in cave and what ever the devil else. Looks to me that the trailer is telling us this game will be more story heavy and we should expect a lot of underground to go with the sky.

I went through topics from 2022 and 2021 and didn't see anything so I'm putting this up.

I'm happy to discuss all aspects of the game but what I really want to talk about though is potential flying! Be it through a Loftwing type of mount or any other means. Preferably a Loftwing mount for my tastes. The first thought that comes to mind is that it would just break the game but if designed with the whole game in mind I think it could be balanced pretty well.

1 - Glider - It's back and it's undoubtedly going to be used as heavily as it always was. Just looking at that one portion of the trailer with Link gliding into absolute nothingness with sky islands way the heck out I just can't imagine the Glider being the means of transportation between the sky islands. If there is a Loftwing maybe it gets you through the larger gaps but the Glider is then used for more narrow areas and precision landings.

2 - Underground - If we have a ton of caves, cities and other locales underground I'm certain this is where no Loftwing would be allowed. If the underground is as extensive as even 1/4 of top ground Hyrule is that's a ton of area to explore that keeps the Glider and other traversal tools relevant that outright flight wouldn't completely omit.

3 - Dungeons - Epona don't get to go in dungeons neither does Loftwing. Same pricipal as the underground.

4 - Sky - If the Loftwing is limited to the "heavenly" part of the sky maybe there are certain natural or unnatural barriers that keep you from just flying to any portion right off the bat. Those weird antenna may produce force fields, super powerful monsters early game Link isn't ready for yet, thunder clouds, etc. At some point though I would love to feel the freedom of flight again like Skyward Sword but in a much more meaningful world. Let the Loftwing land with me on the ground. Let me feed it and pet it like I do my horse.

5 - Hyrule Surface - Depending on how much has changed I wonder how much the development team wants us to climb the same land masses like we once did? New traversal tools like the Hook/Claw Shot would change things up to let the old feel new again and who knows what other new powers will be introduced. Maybe the story logic says Loftwings can't go down to the surface again but man I'd love if by the end of the game we could totally fly around the surface and the sky at will. Especially if it means epic boss battles taking place across the sky during flight and having to free fall at times and what ever the devil else they cook up.

Oh and that big, rock bird, floating in the sky last trailer? That's a bad omen...

Yeah it's gotta be some kind of malware. I know this isn't the place but if anyone can DM me of what I could get to rid myself of malware that would be appreciated. I don't know how to fix computers beyond buying a new one.

Edit!

Back on my normal Safari browser. I deleted all my cookies and cleared my cache!
Wow my Laptop feels brand new!!! What ever was blocking me ain't blocking no more!

Also did I get banned recently? Or is some weird forum joke going around?

There should not have been any ban on you nor was there any weird joke happening lately that I was aware of that would have resulted in users being banned temporarily. What issue did you experience to think that?

So I tried to log in today and it said “you are banned and can’t view this forum. This ban is not temporary.” Something like that. I’ll take a screen grab because its still happening but only in my Safari browser on my laptop. From my phone and opening a private/incognito window I was able to get in just fine. My laptop is old and jacked up, wouldn’t be surprised if it has all kinds of issues.

20 years Perm?! How the wheel slowly turns. 20 years ago I was 16. I was in and out this forum constantly. Where does the time go?

Finally beat the game and I am pleasantly surprised by the story. I was really getting into it by the end! This and Arceus aren't exactly what I want out of Pokemon but man it's getting close!

Song of Horror ay? That sounds pretty fun. I'm going to look into it.

I was in my moms garage and found my cousins old Eternal Darkness. I think my bother sold mine ages ago once I moved out. A lot of nostalgia just looking at that old disc and game case. I'd love it if Nintendo brought it back. The little teases in Smash at least acknowledge its existence.

Thats all presented very nicely.

I have a bunch of stuff in mismatched display cabinets that you can see here https://youtu.be/urzytpe_cDQ

Dude you've got so much stuff! Where did you get a Donkey Kong arcade cabinet?!

Most of my stuff was originally in different types of cabinets. I owned a few things before I moved in with my wife and only kept it all until fairly recently. When we moved I decided matching cabinets for the bigger collectibles. what was supposed to be 2 separate displays become one giant one.

Last thing Kairon and anyone else interested in shelves like these.

https://www.moduspace.sg/en/

These moducase cubes are mostly custom sized. So there are 11 cubes total. I could display each of them individually or mix and match them in almost any way I'd like. Also all of them are black frame white interior. Most people choose all black inside and out but I think the contrast between the black and white speaks for itself.

All black tends to such out all the light and it just never fully satisfied me. But the white makes the black look blacker and black makes the white look whiter. Plus I've got a black/white theme going on in my living room so I wanted the display cases to match the surrounding furniture. Couches, fire place, coffee table were all purchased with these cases in mind.

- Standard DF60 x3
- Custom Moducase L90cm x D60cm x H130cm x2
- Custom Moducase L75cm x D60cm x H65cm x6
- Back half shelf x2
- Side Shelf x2
- Custom risers on the bottom to lift everything off the ground. x4
- LED lights came with each one
- reinforcement bars x8

I purchased 2 extra back half shelves and 2 full half shelves for the giant cases but only in case I wanted mix things around in the future.

Total was over $4000. USD

The length of my 8 custom cases is different than the standards but the heights and depths work out in a way if I wanted to attached standard cases to them in the future. Or basically what I have now. '

Moducase's customer service is phenomenal. It takes as long as 6 months to your cases delivered once ordered. Mine took 14 months because of covid and them moving to a new factory. Totally worth it for me.

I've noticed that the Comic Book store chain Comic Bug tends to carry standard DF60 moducases.

These things are super sturdy. Big enough that I can fit inside and hold my big 200lb butt.

For smaller figures you want the DF30's. They only stick out from the wall 30cm instead of 60cm. There is also a style for hot toys and stuff that come out 45cm.

If you are collecting and want something that can evolve with your collection to be made taller or shorter, wider or thinner this is the way to go. I got a few cases made 75cm across because I knew I wanted the Turtles comfortable together as well as Mario and Bowser comfortable together.

I used to crowd my figures and it was just too tacky. They'd bump each other every now and then as well. Spreading them out a bit definitely is the way to go.

Hey Kairon, thank you! For the statues this was about 16 years in the making. I used to collect marvel statues but only because they never really made gaming things. At least not the gaming things I wanted.

I displayed Fierce Deity Link way back in 06, Skull Kid after and then Sonic after that. I put them in Ikea Detolf furniture but after a few years I just didn't like the look of it. It was just messy and cluttered. Since then every new statue I purchased was only taken out once to be inspected and then just boxed up as I bided my time and money. I knew some day I'd have enough money and space to do things that I dreamed about. For years we were using the boxes like they were tables or something. It was lame but my wife put up with it so long as we kept them out of the living room for guests to see. Though when guests came over I still showed the boxes and told them my plans lol.

1 - So glad the Smash Amiibo or basically done despite wanting to play as more characters. I've got just enough room saved for the final releases. Mostly.

2 - The art, framed cartridges and discs, came to mind some time ago while at a friends house. I saw something at friends house, I don't remember what, it was a little nicknack framed in a little black case on the wall. To me it was insignificant but under glass like that it looked so special. I said I can do that! But with Nintendo! Then I remember going into Michaels because my daughter had some art project. I was floored that they sold those little shadow boxes. I had no idea where one would find such a thing nor what it would be called. Then I noticed vinyl album displays and CD displays. I know right then exactly what I could do. But this was years ago.

I never purchased any of that stuff however. Just the memorabilia themselves over the years and just stored them in giant tupple ware under my kids bed.

The japanese katakana sprite artwork on canvas came from Target. Since the Switch released Nintendo has released so much neat stuff at Target! I have these really cool Yoshi Egg mugs that are so cute during christmas time or some event. Some are kind of cartoony and not exactly my style but these pixel arts plus the canvas gave it a really "legit" vibe that I was going for. Got them during Switch's 1st or 2nd year and put them under the bed. Originally I was going to frame the club Nintendo posters from way back. But they are so huge I opted out. Not sure what to do with them now.

Once I moved and we were somewhat settled I tried to decorate. I took the games I wanted on the walls and got Shadow Boxes for each. After fitting them inside I placed them on the ground in way that thought was kind of natural and artistic. If you notice the games are attached somewhere to their sequels and such. Nothing about it was going to be symmetric so I played with the layout over and over to give it that certain "modern artsy" look I have now. Once I placed it out on the floor as we see it now, my wife and I knew, oh yeah thats it! Spacing them out was the toughest part. Lots of tedious measuring but it was worth it.

Michaels has better baseball bat casings for Amiibo if you like what I did there. Hobby Lobby's CD displays are better than Michaels for my tastes. The black circle that holds the discs are black. It just frames it nicer than the clear ones. Compare DK to Zelda.

3 - The display cabinets! MODUCASE! www.moduspace.sg/en/

I've got to leave but I have sooooo much to say about them! It's expensive but God dang it! Their shelves are MADE for statues/toys/collectibles! Those are 11 separate units combined to make one big super sturdy cabinet!

Ahoy my friends. I would like to share with you my little gaming collection/museum. Everything is themed and organized around certain games that I loved the most, plus what ever I managed to dig out of my mothers garage. Smash Bros, Donkey Kong, Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Sonic.

I've managed to become a home owner in the last year and finally had enough space to display certain things in ways that I've always dreamed of! I've owned many of these statues since they were released day one but never displayed them. Some of them are older than my 10 year old daughter and only now do I have the means to display them in a way that I thought satisfies my vision.

Special thanks to my(as BlackNMild would put it) "fine a$$ wife" who put up with these boxes cluttering our closets and bed rooms for years in our tiny little apartment.

Still a work in progress, trying to tastefully fill in certain empty spots on the walls but you can see what I'm going for.

Charles Martinet signed this photo for me! "Matthew you da best! Wahoo!"

Dixie Kong! We are one step away from getting her off of the mobil game and into the real deal! Dixie Kong for Smash and Mario Kart!

15
Great review! I am so sold! The trailers sold me but now I'm super sold after reading this. I'm coming for you Rishman64, if that boss theme doesn't absolutely(as the kids would say) slap!

Man I better Download Bomberman 64 ASAP. Man what fun that was. I loved the single player and multiplayer. My kids deserve to try that multiplayer!

TalkBack / Re: Pokémon Legends Arceus (Switch) Review
« on: January 28, 2022, 03:30:26 AM »
I enjoyed this review a lot. This was the first review I read in full and I thought is this game really in "9" territory? I've only started playing about an hour before this post and now I can easily see how it could be rated that high.

Ok I'm only about 23 minutes in and I am super pleasantly surprised. I've been complaining for God only knows how many years about what you actually play in Pokemon games. I want to move around and interact for corn sakes!

Throwing the balls feels good! Aiming manually like that while still being able to move around feels really nice so far! Sneaking up on a Pokemon in the tall grass is fun so far and feels good! And when you battle you can still run around as your human character? Right on! I don't know what it would even mean to do that I just love that I can! I wondered what would happen if I got in-between 2 Pokemon fighting but was too afraid to see what would happen. I imagine nothing though.

Oh and then I can throw my poke ball at tree or something and my Pokemon will head butt the tree to grab berries? I love it! Is there more things like this down the road. It's almost exactly what I've been asking for for years!

I like that I can throw my Pokemon out at anytime and just talk to them. I thought for sure one at a time but then wouldn't you know it seems like you can just surround yourself with your whole team at a moments notice. It doesn't seem like it does anything aside from maybe raising affection, if thats still a thing but I'm just glad I'm able to do it!

The Pokemon I have seen so far, only about 7, seem to really exist in the world. When you battle they come out right then and there. When you find them they are there and not just in the mystical battle realm. I like that they subtly turn their heads and watch you when you approach them.

I hate that so far I have not seen a door opening animation but I can forgive that considering what I've experienced above.

Keep in mind I am as jaded a Pokemon fan as they come. Love the creatures themselves but man Sword and Shield put me off hard. The first 20 minutes of this though? Sold me so hard!

18
I've been wishing for a 3D Kirby since the N64 era. I was happy to see the Crystal Shards and Yoshi's Story but I was always disappointed they didn't make the big 3D jump. After Sunshine I thought for sure Yoshi would get his own 3D Adventure by the Wii. By the time Return To Dreamland came out I completely gave up on both franchises going 3D.

What a time to be alive! It looks really nice if a little simple so far but I am so happy this is being attempted. Bout time something other than Mario gets a 3D platformer!

Wow what a collection! I've got quite a few but no where near your collection BuncleUob.

I've recently moved to a new home and don't have any of my figures on display but hopefully this year I will have the Smash collection set up and displayed. After I was given the gift of playable Ridley, Smash will forever be enshrined in my home.

20
I am extremely excited for the potential of this game. All I've been wanting with Pokemon is meaningful interaction with my Pokemon and meaningful interaction in the world that I explore. I've felt like for years that I never really play anything in Pokemon besides a mini game here and there. I want to control something god dang it!

Surfing with Mantine, Sharpedo & Lapras, sniffing around with Stoutland and smashing stuff with Touros was wonderful for me. It was simply controlling the Pokemon in the environment in a meaningful way.

Mountable Pokemon - Horse shapes or large 4 legged types to ride upon was always the dream! Doesn't have to be every large 4 legged Pokemon but a sizable amount to choose from. Allow some of them to run a little faster than others by species and level too! Would be wonderful!

Climbing - I want to be able to summon a Pokemon and my player character latch onto it's back. Druddigon, Sceptile, what ever! But if it's my human character thats ok too, just not as fun for me.

Flying/Gliding - Smaller Pokemon give you a glide. The bigger and higher level they get the further they can glide and some of them give you full freedom of flight! Well maybe not full freedom but something substantial.

Digging and Smashing - Holes in the ground, boulders blocking paths, secret tunnels in caves. Let me bring out my Pokemon and control it by walking and running. Give me some basic attack animation to test out suspicious areas and find secrets!

I could go on like this but I've been bringing this kind of thing up for years now! And so far this game looks to be going in that direction and the potential has my spirits soaring!

I really really really hope the wild Pokemon have varied animations and habits as well. Flying Pokemon and arboreal Pokemon should rest in trees and on branches. Let bugs craw vertically on walls and trees. Everything only on the surface of the ground or water is so boring. Let the Pokemon chase each other and do things in their lives. If you gotta cut out half the Pokemon fine! I'll live with it! Just do as I say!

Mario Kart 8
Tropical Freeze
New Super Mario Bros U
Pokken Tournament

I regret nothing! My kids got a little older and were interested in those older titles as well so the money was well spent.

22
Terry's traits are probably easier to wrap ones head around as it's more or less a come back mechanic. Well to me any way. Between Terry, Lucario and Joker I feel like their unique gimmicks aren't too intrusive to the way I prefer to play Smash. Although Terry does have the fighting game inputs like Ryu as well right?

Ridley being the way he is was an absolute God send for me. He's relatively simple in execution and with that my mind is at ease to get really comfortable and creative with him. His off stage game is so good and so fun! Grabbing people mid air, carrying them under the stage, waiting for them to tech, jump up for a froward air to smash them into the underside again while I comfortably fly back up to the top is just so good!

I like that complex characters exist for those who want them but even someone like Hero is a bit much for me just because of the vast options involved. Ryu, Steve, Rosalina & Luma along with the Ice Climbers are too much for me. When someone that is a little more straight forward is revealed I get pretty happy. Though admittedly as long as I love the character it usually doesn't matter how they play, I learn them super willingly.

This doesn't apply to Diddy Kong however. Diddy is my boy! I love me some Diddy Kong! In Smash however, the banana, the peanut pop gun and rocket barrel just sour me on the character so much. I don't particularly hate DK64 but I don't love it any longer like I did during my first play through back in the day. The rocket barrel and peanut gun originating from DK64 irks me. I want a Diddy that uses only his natural born body to attack, not all them God danged monkey gadgets!

When it comes to Donkey Kong however I just want him to toss around barrels as a projectile. It's what DK does!

23
Dixie Kong now! Dixie Kong tomorrow! Dixie Kong forever! I don't want an overly complex character that needs to manage odd traits. Dixie's name used to be on the front of game boxes! In Japan isn't it called Super Donkey Kong 2, Diddy & Dixie?

I would have imagined that by now Sakurai would have tried to revisit some of his Brawl Dixie ideas. It's been so long. Though I do have this suspicion that Nintendo as a whole is trying to raise her profile(well Donkey Kong's in general) especially after seeing the treatment she got for Mario Kart Tour. Smash is a logical step for some super secret grand plan.

24
I only got around to Mario 64 on the DS and I remember being absolutely in love with it. After all these years I decided to go through it as it was originally with 3D All Stars. Just got 120 Stars last night after 30 hours or so. Holy macaroni! Never again... I can see how for it's time it was an amazing break through. I remember all the hoopla back in the day but as I was in my anti Mario phase my first N64 games were Star Fox 64 and Bomberman 64.

There was certainly a ton of fun to be had but the camera and constant sliding at maximum velocity nearly broke me all together. I went through Sunshine First, 64 DS second, and Galaxy 3rd so I just wasn't used to all that unstable terrain. I'd be running on a fairly narrow ledge and just slightly run upon it's angled edge and Mario would go belly sliding for miles down a cliff.

What ever the case I enjoyed it enough to punish myself through all 120 Stars.

Just started Sunshine and I feel like I have so much more control over Mario. Fludd or no Fludd, long jump or not. Mario's physical interaction with the ground and walls is so much more forgiving that I never truly realized how much of a step up Sunshine was in that regard.

25
Steve and Alex don't gel with me at all but this is a huge get for Smash. My 5 year old was pretty excited and while my 8 year old loves Minecraft, she said she didn't like it because Steve looked out of place lol.

This is not my cup of tea but I already have Donkey Kong, Bowser and Ridley in game where I can control them freely and beat the ship out of other characters I love slightly less. I'm super satisfied. Once Dixie Kong is in I can die with no regrets.
