Creepy children aren't anything new in horror, for that matter, but the girl with long, straight black hair is a little too specific.

Yeah, the long, dark-haired little dead/evil girl has become the cliché here and it's worn its welcome already, I'd say.

I mean, the Ring was a scary movie and yes, it enjoyed a great deal of popularity, but it's that popularity which should make devs/writers more hesitant to blatantly rip it off because it'll be so damn obvious that they did so.

Blair Witch 2 was before The Ring and it had creepy ghost kids. So take that!

In Japan. SB was talking about the remake, The Ring. I'm just saying that the creepy demon ghost girls is nothing new.

Like I said earlier:

"It should be noted that Somara was kind of a take on the little girls from the Shining, though Somara was basically her own evil whereas those girls were just victims of evil, mostly."
"OK, first we need someone to complain about something trivial. Golden or S_B should do. Then we get someone to defend the game, like Bill or Mashiro. Finally add some Unclebob or Pro666 randomness and the thread should go to hell right away." -Pap64

The movie version of Ringu also ripped of Video Dead...

OK, maybe that is stretching it a bit.

If they come up with interesting ways to interact with these creepy girlies, it's perfectly fine.

The only good way of applying that trope I can think of is to let the player play as the scary little girl and needing to figure out how to make the threats she makes actually work out (hey, having people die in a chain reaction worthy of The Incredible Machine can't be easy to arrange!).

Let's not forget the other creepy-kid flashlight game for Wii.  Since July it's been officially named "Calling" rather than "The Calling," probably cuz there's too many "The ____" names lately in entertainment.

I suppose the sequels, to complete the Trilogy, will be aptly named, "Texting," and "Tweeting."

A trailer was released last month:

The above link shows that a developer diary. They talk about what they planned with the game. Some interesting things that they said.

unfortunately Nintendo's website's search a game feature, ignores survival horror games.

lol Video dead, Samara also resembles the exorcist girl, and in poltergeist the little girl goes into the TV not out. Way before any of those movies was

I received a review copy of this. Should be diving into later today. After playing the demo, I can't say I'm too excited for it, but I'm interested.

This game had the decency to use the IR pointer, unlike another 3rd Party title.

I put about a half hour or so into this game last night, and while I can't condemn it after playing that much of the game, I have a bunch of issues with it.

The lighting (or lack thereof) is trying to be moody, but instead I just don't know where the hell I am and get lost often. The game also doesn't seem to guide you too well, as I'm currently trapped in the second area of the game going up to every door and seeing if I can open it.

The one thing that I can say right now is that it is decently atmospheric regardless of the terrible lighting. The use of the phone is alright for now, and it's a mixture of creepy/humorous when a "ghost" calls the phone you picked up and is like "I'm coming to get my phone" in a dumb creepy voice. Speaking of which, the voice acting is crap so far, and I want to burn things when the game tells the story through a conversation that's displayed in white text on a black screen, or when it's displayed over someone sitting at a computer and typing.

I'm getting the sinking feeling that this game will fall into the category of "cool idea, horrible execution." I hope it gets better.

I've amassed a decent Survival Horror collection on Wii, for better or worse.  The fact that Calling still follows some adventure-gaming mold instead being on-rail'd makes it a worthwhile purchase.

Mario's been amazing an unbelievable racing/kart racing collection on Wii, for better or worse.

I was about to write them, then i figured, i'd rather wait until I finished Escape From Bug Island first, which is more exciting and essential to survival horror experiences on the Wii platform.
