Bizzarre Cell Phone Event... What th?
« on: March 24, 2009, 08:28:10 PM »
So I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on this strange event that just happened....

Now, my fiancee and I are on the same cell phone plans.  We happen to be sitting at the computer together, with both phones on the table right next to each other.

Suddently, both phones rang simultaneously. Pretty strange right?

It gets weirder.... the caller id number on each was the same!  So I had to act fast and decided the best thing to do would be answer both phones at the same time, one in each ear, with a simple, "Hello?"

After saying hello my fiancee's phone gets hung up on.  Through my phone I hear a "Hello? Michael?" and then it hangs up to.

What the hell? How is that even possible?

The number that called me was 866-205-9915.

Is this some bizarre scam thing?

That sounds like the network got confused and rang the account (not specifically your number) so both your phones rang at once.

The further confuse things... we called my fiancee's sister, who is also on our plan... and her phone DIDN'T ring....

Weird!

I know that there is a prank idea floating around where someone will use three way calling to call one Pizza Hut in Washington (my old store) and another in Missouri and then let them both try to ask what the other wants. You can tell when someone does this when you answer the phone and you still hear the ringing as if you are dialing out. Maybe this was a failed attempt at that prank? Are your numbers similar enough that they could have both been dialed? Like only one digit difference? Say someone randomly picks two numbers like 555-555-5555 and 555-555-5556 to dial.

I hate prank calls. Waste of time and money. They aren't funny.

I also hate those calls where they are in a different time zone and wake me up at 7am.

I get calls like that too, and it's always someone asking for "Michael?", "BOB?", or "David?" and if you respond with the other name they freak. I think some site has a weird prank going on, like 4chan's calling gamestop for "battle toads"...

Actually I just remembered, I was in Game Crazy today getting Pokemon Platinum and the guy was rather frustrated because these kids were prank calling the store non-stop. I swear neither he nor I could get a word in in between their calls. Idiot kids, it's spring break and they aren't smart enough to find something better to do with their time. Maybe they should PLAY SOME GAMES.

Says you!

I once pranked called a Subway; **** was hysterical. I was "Jared's assistant" confirming Jared's visit to the store. They obviously new nothing about it, so I gave them so much **** for it. hehe I had them going for so long; I even made them sing "Jared's theme song" that I made up on the spot!

People can be sooooo stupid sometimes.

Jimmy Kimmel did it in his slightly feminine Celeb. Assistant voice, the same one he used to call some Oprah thing.

I've never even seen that show. I heard it was funny, but at the time it was on I didn't have cable; just basic cable. I barely watched TV at all.

It's bizarre really. I should be on Comedy Central!
