Nintendo Gaming / Re: The Wii U is a mess of a system
« on: September 19, 2016, 05:33:36 PM »
The lesson is to not cut corners and assume your prior userbase is just going to automatically carry over to the next generation.
This is something it seems every company tends to forget constantly.  Sony did this with the PS3, though they did the opposite and they thought their PS2 customers would gladly get a second job to be able to pay the extra money it cost at launch to get a PS3.  Microsoft did this at the launch of the XB1 with thinking they could do whatever they wanted in fighting the used games market and charging extra for their system at first.
Nintendo did it before going from Super NES to the N64. Atari did it going from the 2600 to the 5200. And it's not just the video game market that does this.  Companies are constantly thinking it's fans are mindless drones who will buy whatever new product they put out.

It'll likely sell closer to 100k next week.  I don't think it'll pass Wii U right away but within a month to 6 weeks I think it'll finally be done.

With the sales failure of ExciteBots, don't expect Nintendo to sail away with this idea.
Then just rename it Wii MotorSports and have trucks, jet skis, etc. races and add in an Excitebike mode to it.  I guess they would have to call it NX MotorSports now though.

I hope Nintendo doesn't have a Sega Saturn approach to the console.

"The console comes out next week!"

and nobody had a chance to save the cash to buy it.
Well they already said it's coming in March so if people are interested, you'd think they would be saving the money in time for a March 1 release at the earliest.

I'd rather have a new Excitebike...
Let's get a new Wave Race and Excitebike and mixed them together to Exciteboats.

Isn't Sony doing something on Playstation hardware today?  Would make sense to see NX in the next week or two.
PS4Pro is getting released on November 10th, a Thursday.  Could Nintendo try to put a damper on their thunder by announcing the NX on that day? Probably not.

Let's get excited, we don't want the negativity to seep down into the crust of the game.

Nintendo just announced a Mario game for iOS at their iPhone 7 event today.  I'm kind of excited for it.

Theory: NX will play 3ds games and 4ds will play nx games.

Wii U games will be available on NX, but downloadable only. Also, most likely Nintendo titles only. If you have the wii u disc, you an download a patch to bridge compatibility.
I like this idea
I like it too.  Too bad Nintendo always wants you to buy the game again.

I'm guessing Sony announced their 9/7 press event too early as the PS4 seems to be in very short supply. My guess is there will be one more week like that and then it'll just to above 50k in sales the next week with the Slim being released.

Well, there is a chance they support both.  The original plan with the DS was it was going to be sold alongside the GBA in case the DS flopped.  Since it didn't, the GBA eventually stopped being made but there were new games for it at least a year after the DS came out.

Sony is still having new content for the PS3 even though the PS4 has been out for 3 years now.  It's not unprecedented for a company to continue to support the old system as the new one is in its infant stages.

I wish we could get some more 'official' sources on this thing. Everything since Eurogamer seems to build off their rumor. I want to hear a slip from a developer or someone else respected.
Official sources likely won't happen until the big reveal.  I'm guessing most companies that really know what's going on have kept their mouths shut.

I've never had a problem with Sony's d pad.  I've never had a problem with most any d pads.

Yep, I'd rather come here than go to the various other sites to find these numbers and Enner delivers.  It is amazing and very appreciated.

I think they'll officially lower the price of the Wii U when they announce the NX so as to get those off the shelves before the NX is there.  That way, they won't have any chance of competing against themselves.

67
I think it's mainly because they have no real title to sell this holiday season and with the NX just around the corner, they needed something to try to spur sales of any kind.

If we still were able to give up votes, Enner would have hundreds from me.

Mario 64 DS (best Mario game other then all-stars's 3) isn't there.... :'(
And if it was a 2D platformer, you may have a case.

Should be hearing something soon, but don't be surprised if it's not Tegra based :p
Been wondering why you've been so quiet.

72
Yeah, I'm placing SMW2 in the Yoshi series category.  It played differently than SMW and never really appealed to me even now.

I heard you can get one online.
How much does it cost?

74
I've beating SMB 1, 2 and 3, World and NSMB.  I played a little of the Wii version but haven't played any of the others.  I will likely play NSMBU at some point but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

75
This is why I didn't play NSMB 2 until last Summer and even after finally playing it, the game confirmed my fears, it really was a rushed lower quality product.  The level design of NSMB 2 is a huge step down from both NSMB Wii and U.  Yeah there's a focus on coin collecting but even that is pretty pointless to me since the only reward you get for those 1 million coins is a worthless gold statue of Mario on the title screen.  Now it's still a decent game because the Mario formula is still a solid base, but to me, NSMB 2 doesn't do much to go beyond that and it's big feature the coin rush is not implemented very well in a way that makes me want to keep playing.
I'd just like to point out that getting all 120 stars in Super Mario 64 only netted you access to the cannon in front of the castle letting you get to the top of the castle where Yoshi is there to congratulate you on doing it.  Also not really worth the reward.
A better argument would be it was not fun trying to get the million coin challenge and therefore was not worth it.  Whereas getting 120 stars in Mario 64 was fun in a lot of ways (and challenging and frustrating, especially that first time) making the completion of getting all the stars being its own reward.
